In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

All Aboard the Clintons’ Marrakesh Express!

Wow. I have to give it to the mainstream media. They are not using the kid gloves with the Clintons, and if anything, going after them harder than the Republicans.

Because for reporters, even though many are indeed tilted toward the Left, the most exciting thing is not ideology, but digging up great scoops. Great scoops tinged with scandal are a friggin’ opiate rush. And when it comes to scandal, the Clintons have been generously providing for two and a half decades.

This latest is a combined reporting effort by Brian Ross of ABC News and Michael Isikoff of Yahoo – two of the best investigative reporters around – along with a couple of other ABC reporters. They’ve dug up that a lavish Clinton Foundation event held this week in Marrakesh, Morocco is bankrolled not only by a foreign government entity, but one accused of human rights violations.

Oops.

From the Yahoo report, which I also cited on REDLINE:

Former President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Foundation’s Global Initiative are being hosted this week at a five-star luxury hotel in Morocco by one of the world’s most controversial mining companies, criticized for “serious human rights violations” by the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice.

The Moroccan government-owned mining company OCP operates in disputed international territory in a remote part of the Sahara Desert, and the firm has been criticized for removing the resources without adequately compensating the impoverished people who live there.

Here’s ABC’s version.

Man, what a great time ol’ Bill has been having these past several years. Center of attention, beautiful locales. The Man from Hope.

  1. ABC – Anybody But Clinton? An actual full two minutes of reporting and questioning.

    I wonder if it’s a one-off or the beginning of a trend.

  2. Couldn’t hear the audio, but I’ve heard all I need to hear about these money grubbing Clintons.

I’ll bet if someone offered Senora Clintonista $20M under the table to withdraw her candidacy, she would take it immediately.

They both should be spending Bill’s third term in Federal prison.

      1. It would take so much corruption at the polls to elect her it would be off the charts.

        OT.
I’m more worried about martial law being imposed either in certain states or across the Country.

  3. Let’s be fair here – from the Yahoo piece:

“Among other sponsors of the event are the Akwa Group, a Moroccan oil and gas firm; Channel IT, a Nigerian telecom company, and Coca-Cola and APCO Worldwide, one of Washington’s biggest lobbying firms, which has long provided public relations services for the Clinton Foundation free of charge.”

While the mining company might have serious charges against them and make their sponsorship questionable, the real scandal here is that the Clintons used their high positions in government, from President to Sec of State, as entree to pressure national or international firms to donate to their foundation. Every one of the donees have serious issues being promoted by lobbyists to various US government agencies.
There’s little doubt that they believe that their wants will find favorable attention if they are aligned with the former President and the ‘presumptive’ President of the US.

  4. I heard about the Morocco trip. Bill has been sounding very giddy while being questioned. Doesn’t seem to be a serious thought in his mind, nor a serious expression.

  5. I don’t buy that the press is suddenly all investigative and neutral. No way. This is a burst to try to get this mess off the stage early–at least IMO. Smoking gun here? No. How about here? No. OK–case closed, appearances don’t count.

    1. To wit, Mika, in her best scowly-face, asked the MoJo panel this morning to tell her where the there was. MSNBC’s adoration of Hillary will never wane, no matter if there ends up being a there there. Of that we can be sure.

      1. To Mika and her fellow lib travelers, Aristotle himself, risen from the ashes, would not be held favorable against any or all Dem candidates.
To them, a Repub is racist, cruel, and evil.

          1. Mika IS all for Eliz Warren yet when anyone dares to criticize Hillary, Mika’s finger-pointing head-shaking, eye-rolling persona comes out in spades (am I allowed to say spades?)

            @Langley: Two points.

    2. I don’t think that the situation is going to go away that easily.
The Clintons are slippery, but now that the foundation has come to light, and the server issue is still out there, they got some ‘spainin to do.

  6. This is one of the most curious paradigm shifts the MSM has made in memory. In another age, the MSM would have under-reported, misreported or completely ignored the Clinton Foundation story. The would have concentrated their firepower on Republicans/Conservative candidates. Something very big has happened and it happened quickly, almost over a single weekend as I remember. All of of a sudden the MSM, nearly all of it, shifted to a “get Hillary” mode–mocking her, criticizing her, treating her like some strange creature who has risen up from some swamp– after all the years of the legal stumble and bumbles of the Clintons. I’ve got my theories as to why this is happening, but it’s still an amazing change, as we watch the story play out.

    1. @Marcus: like minds here. It could be as simple as the optics of an old wrinkly White woman running against a line-up of youngish, good-looking Repubs. Then again, there might be a honking smoking gun that they’ve seen or been told about.

I look to the Obamas for all of the dirt coming out against the Clintons. IMO, they’d rather see a Repub in the WhiteHouse then allow one of the hated Clintons to sit there.

      1. I agree that the Obama machine is somehow behind this. Obama is a vindictive type, and he surely remembers Bill Clinton’s remark to Ted Kennedy that a few years ago Obama would have been serving them coffee. In addition, is it so difficult to believe that The Obama White House hacked into her private serving the entire time she used it, and discovered unkind remarks about him? No, not difficult at all.

          1. Normally, I might agree with you. But for some reason the MSM (and they are driving this story hard) is like a Rottweiler chewing on a ham sandwich on this one. It’s like what Dr Samuel Johnson said back in the 1700’s when he observed a dog walking on his hind legs in a local pub. “It isn’t that he does it well, but the fact that he does it at all.”

      1. Great link exuding common sense.

She will give it a shot, grasping at that last gold ring.
She should swallow her ego and enjoy the rest of her life.

It will be interesting to see how long her ego lasts.

          1. The ones whose eyes glaze over when asked who was Saul Alinsky, or Cloward and Piven, and the relationship Hillary had with them.
The response I got was, “we need a woman in the White House”.

My wife said she wanted to stick a fork in her eye.

      2. I remember that Tina Brown article well, and I often think of it as I wonder why the heck Shrillary is even running. The Corrupt Clintons already have everything they could get out of the presidency – millions and millions of dollars a year for life, the slush fund foundation supporting their five star lifestyle, a platform for whatever issues the supposedly care about, etc.

    1. Probably went through the exhaust of the jets she flew around on and the parties and the hotels she occupied along with her entourage.

  7. If “Great scoops tinged with scandal are a friggin’ opiate rush” for reporters, they should be positively orgasmic over the dirt they could dig up on Barry…if they had the balls.

    1. Well now,….this is the most transparent administration in the history of the USA.
Obama told us it would be.
      Aren’t you paying attention ? :)

The news media are trying diligently to expose the corruptness, I’m convinced of it.
Due to the fact that nothing has been exposed, there must be nothing there,.. right ?

      Obama never lies……..ever.

This info was reported by the WaPo in an article on Tuesday, May 5th. Drudge linked to it and I posted about it in the thread for Wednesday’s schedule. That article has a lot of interesting info about Bubba’s Moroccan trip as well as about the sponsors of the trip and other CGI trips, and the foundation’s questionable fundraising practices.

  9. I think this is an immunization piece that George Stephanopoulos’ network can use once the field is set to throw out and say “look we looked into this and all these charges were investigated and nothing ever really came of them.” If Hillary is the Dem nominee George will rally ABC as well as the other networks to protect the Clintons and unscrupulously attack the Republican front runners.

  10. CONSERVATIVES, WE NEED TO ACT!

It’s articles like these that we should be sending to everyone we know.

We often say we don’t know what to do or how to combat political wrongdoings.

Well, sending investigative articles like this to everyone we know, no matter what their political party, is one way we can help at the “grass roots” level.
