As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

President Obama and his daughters plugged Small Business Saturday with a trip to a local Washington bookstore.

These are the books they bought:

– Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End – Atul Gawande
– Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business (Junie B. Jones Series #2) – Barbara Park
– A Barnyard Collection: Click, Clack, Moo and More – Doreen Cronin
– I Spy Sticker Book and Picture Riddles by Jean Marzollo
– Nuts to You – Lynn Rae Perkins
– Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus (Junie B. Jones Series #1) – Barbara Park
– Brown Girl Dreaming – Jacqueline Woodson
– Redwall (Redwall Series #1) – Brian Jacques
– Mossflower (Redwall Series #2) – Brian Jacques
– Mattimeo – Brian Jacques (Redwall Series #3)
– Cartwheeling in Thunderstorms – Katherine Rundell
– The Narrow Road to the Deep North – Richard Flanagan
– The Laughing Monsters – Denis Johnson
– All the Light We Cannot See – Anthony Doerr
– Heart of Darkness – Joseph Conrad
– Nora Webster – Colm Toibin
– Age of Ambition: Chasing Fortune, Truth and Faith in the New China – Evan Osnos

And on Sunday, the president went golfing at Joint Base Andrews. Looks like some of the usual White House aides were with him.

Not counting a brief trip to the driving range the Sunday before, this is Obama’s 48th golf outing of the year and the 205th of his presidency.

  1. I read that Melia pointed to a book entitled The Stranger by Chuck Todd and said “Sad.” Then Obama replied “Chuck Todd is sad.”
As I had never heard of the book, I looked it up. Chuck Todd, surprise, surprise, had made some unflattering comments about Obama in his book.
I would like to read it now….never thought I would even consider a book by Chuck Todd. I thought he always sucked up to Obama, especially after he said that talking to Obama was “nourishing.”

    • Obama, the official Community Destroyer of the United States, doesn’t read or think or reflect. He reacts, he blusters, he spins the truth, he marches his followers around in circles. He’s read and taught his Alinsky. That’s all this character understands, or will ever understand.

  2. Why hasn’t the first lady been with the fam? Didn’t see her at the turkey pardon and now no mention of her at the bookstore. Do I smell a rift.

    • Yeah–heard about that–a meeting on Ferguson–that ought to add a lot. Maybe he needs to view Scarborough’s rant this AM–from the heart. How Brown was not really the ideal poster child people to get something going.

      • Doesn’t matter, Michael Brown will be forgotten within a few weeks. This is all about keeping the riots I mean protests going for the next 2 years and keep them in the headlines instead of what is the real problems from Iran/ISIS to ObamaCare & the Economy. Obama is no longer interested in anything outside of being an activist for things that matter to the community organizer in him and exactly revenge on the GOP for “ruining his presidency” (which is a bunch of bull, the GOP did not ruin his president – he and he alone ruined his presidency).

I honestly think this is a golden moment in time for the GOP to show true leadership and give an alternative narrative of a group of people working together to solve the real problems that face us today. Imagine if the Republicans come out of the gates in the next Congress and pass a comprehensive immigration reform plan, fixes to ObamaCare that make sense and a long term fiscal policy plan that is not built on gimmicks. People will see the GOP as the party of solutions or at least talking about problems that concern them while President Obama has a hissy fit and continues trying to divide people on race for personal satisfaction (he cannot run for a third term so this isn’t even about political gain anymore). My fear is the Ted Cruz of the world will not let that happen and they will just spend the next two years having their own hissy fit about what Obama is doing instead of doing what they were elected to do – govern.

        • Thoughtful comment on a silly thread. I agree that this is a golden opportunity for the Republicans. Things are just going to keep moving toward anarchy for the next two years.

      • I have a couple of questions about the St. Louis Rams coming out on the field with their arms up. One, did all players do it? Well, it really doesn’t matter because the franchise allowed the first players on the field to do it so it must have given approval. Two, does anyone know how the stadium responded?

  3. A Barnyard Collection: Click, Clack, Moo and More

Is this a joke? “How does the cow go?” Come on! Also, I am the antri-Gawande. This makes me so tired I could cry right now…

  4. Not a book list one would expect from such a widely acknowledged cerebral person. Maybe they are all gifts for his less than cerebral cabinet and advisor team, some diverting material to take their minds off the mess they continue to create. Alternatively, perhaps he is commencing a reeducation program for his WH chum gang. Don’t look now but it is just a little late.

  5. How many Christmas Trees this year throughout The White House? They always have these massive displays, shuffle a few military families past, hand them each a cookie, then it is off to Hawaii.

  6. About the only positive thing I can say is at least he did not buy that dog called The Interestings or more sappy Jonathan Franzen, or even the latter day bleeding heart Stephen King. How he missed The Goldfinch, I will never know.

  7. Every year on Small Business Saturday Obama heads to the bookstore. You see in Obama’s mind this is the type of “Small Business” all good libs think the U.S. should be patronized. Please; no messy CO2 polluting jobs, defense manufacturing, obscene profit making ventures or God forbid energy start-ups like fracking should be visited. You know the one’s that support the middle-class. No Obama heads to that effete book store with the burning French Cinnamon candles where Der Spiegel, The New Yorker and flyers for LGBT Vegan Clubs are prominently displayed. Our ‘Small Business President.’

  8. 48 rounds of golf this year alone?

Dubya played 24 rounds in eight years.

So Sir Golfsalot has out-golfed Bush two to one…JUST THIS YEAR.

And he still has Hawaii later this month.
