In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Obama: Don’t Worry, It’s Only Twitter

President Obama suggested Friday that Americans have grown overly concerned about the terrorism and Islamist extremism, tracing their misplaced worry to the increased information about overseas developments parlayed by social media.

From the pool report of a DNC fundraiser in Purchase, New York:

“If you watch the nightly news, it feels like the world is falling apart,” Obama said. He said this is a time of extraordinary changes around the world. He cited several hotspots, saying, “We’ve seen the barbarity of an organization like ISIL.”

Obama said we have seen failed economies in that region, so some young people who are lacking options are attracted to organizations like ISIL . . .

“I can see why a lot of folks are troubled,” he said. But American military superiority has never been greater, Obama said.

“The world’s always been messy … we’re just noticing now in part because of social media,” he said.

People say China is advancing, but if you look at our cards and at China’s cards, you’d rather have our cards, Obama said.

The Middle East is challenging, “but it’s been challenging for quite a while,” he said.

“We will get through these challenging times just like we have in the past,” he said. This is not comparable to the challenges we faced during the Cold War, he said.

So this is how he can engage in constant golf with equanimity. Nothing’s wrong with the world! We’re all just spending too much time on Twitter, or Facebook, or Pinterest, or whatever.

Those silly Brits, raising their threat level. They need to get off YouTube and read book!

  1. “If you watch the nightly news…”
That’s right, don’t listen to them, listen to me, and I say the world has never been safer.
    Beyond delusional.

  2. With all do respect I do not need him to announce if I am to concerned about something. After 911 for several weeks, I walked downstairs every break and went to my car to listen to news updates, to be sure I knew what was going on.
We had a TV in the office where we had watched the horrific attack of our Country on 911.
This is America if I want to be overly concerned about tulips that is my choice. Thank you.

  3. he is saying….look deeeeeeeep into my eyes……and when i count to three and snap my fingers….you will all DRINK THE KOOLAID!!!!!

  4. Obama’s probably right. Only 10% of Americans use the internet and they are mostly dumb kids on their mommies computers. 44% of Americans do not have cable or satellite.

  5. Wait. I thought everyone was “tranquil”, now it’s “messy”.
Well, OK, removing someone’s head with a pen knife can be messy, and the mass executions of men with all the blood and guts spewing everywhere would make a big mess, but after that tranquillity must set in – right?

If this man is right, then I will forever be wrong.

  6. Sez the hypocritical Bumbler-in-Chief and his team of #hashtag activists and fake followers created to make it look like he has more followers than Jesus !

The WH Administration all have their own accounts and get caught often on Twitchy for saying something stupid or wrong. Obama can’t control his propaganda machine if we keep calling them out on it. Including his slobbering media. It’s how he got elected, now that very technololgy is bringing him down, or at least keeping them honest.

You don’t have to be on twitter to follow Team Obama’s blooper show, twitchy does a good job being the border collies who round up and corral his sheep :D

  7. Blame Bush for 6 years – check
Blame GOP for 6 years – check
    and PIVOT…
    Blame FB
    Blame Twitter
    Blame social media

I came, I saw, I blamed. – Alfred E. What Me Worry Obama

  8. I just changed my desktop background to “The Scream” by Edvard Munch. Now I can just look at that instead of actually screaming every time this pompous ignoramus blathers a precious piece of idiocy!!!!!!!!

  9. I am so, so sick of this idiot and his lecturing tone.
What about the ‘nightly news’ in the ’60s when it was wall to wall Vietnam coverage ?
I am so sick of being talked to like I was some ignorant fool.
This man is an embarrassment to the office and this Country.

Hey Barry,….this is not ‘the hood’.
We are far more intelligent than the ‘bros and the hos’ that actually believe your insolent diatribe.

  10. Yes, read a book. Like that happens in this country anymore. Blaming Twitter is just his latest “read it in the paper–more likely someone said it–and parrot it back” deal. The world is indeed messy–the human body contains a LOT of blood and it’s better when it stays inside.
