Former CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson has uncovered an email indicating that the State Department knew at a very high level, immediately after the incidents, that the Benghazi attacks were conducted by a terrorist organization affiliated with al Qaeda.
The email, sent by Acting Assistant Secretary of State for the Near East Beth Jones, contradicts assertions made at the time by the White House and Secretary of State Clinton, Jones’ boss, that the motivation for the attacks was a video.
From Attkisson’s report, posted on her own website, sharylattkisson.com:
The email is entitled “Libya update from Beth Jones.” Jones was then-Assistant Secretary of State to Hillary Clinton. According to the email, Jones spoke to Libya’s Ambassador at 9:45am on Sept. 12, 2012 following the attacks.
“When [the Libyan Ambassador] said his government suspected that former Qaddafi regime elements carried out the attacks, I told him the group that conducted the attacks—Ansar Al Sharia—is affiliated with Islamic extremists,” Jones reports in the email.
There is no uncertainty assigned to the assessment, which does not mention a video or a protest . . .
Among those copied on the email: Deputy Secretary William Burns; Under Secretary for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman; Jake Sullivan, then-Deputy Chief of Staff (now promoted to national security advisor to Vice President Joe Biden); Under Secretary of State Patrick Kennedy; Cheryl Mills, then-Secretary Clinton’s Chief of Staff (now on the board of directors of the global investment firm BlackRock); and Victoria Nuland, then-State Dept. spokesperson (now promoted to Asst. Secretary of State) . . .
Another State Department email sent at 5:55pm on Tues. Sept. 11, 2012, while the attacks were underway, includes a report that “the extremist group Ansar Al Sharia has taken credit for the attack in Benghazi” and that U.S. officials asked the offices of the [Libyan] President and [Prime Minister] to pursue Ansar al Sharia.”
This will take some explaining.

Ah, the payment for silence. Everyone has a price, it’s just a matter of finding what it is.
Anyone with an ounce of brains knew the attacks were terror related, and they were a co-ordinated effort. What really surprised me in Attkisson’s report is the number of individuals that went from being at one level in State, to getting promoted to a higher, more responsible level.
One should ask if these promotions were payment for keeping their mouths shut about Benghazi. Especially those promotions that took someone from a position such as a spokesperson to Asst. Secretary of State.
Reading the list of promotions makes me think that the unqualified in State are being placed in positions were their lack of qualifications makes them an even greater danger to the US and its allies.
The higher the level, the more untouchable and underlings are more enabled to put out the first line of defense – obfuscation.

He was shot down in WWII. Everyone went to his rescue and pulled him out. No one stood back.
If we did not have a military number of people near by. That in itself shows failure on this admini.
Someone at the top should have called someone, anyone, there to help.
All facts need to be released. What are the current ambassdors being told about their satefy. Does each current ambassador get a rundown of who may come to their rescue.
1. Do they have security guards, if they are far away from any of our military.
2. Told exactly how far the nearest military personal are.
3. Are they told sorry, you are on your own. We do not have any means of protecting you at all.
4. Are the current ambassodor’s given a response if they inquire about something important, as Ambassodor Stevens did.

Sharyl Attkisson and Bret Baier should grab hold and continue to investigate this “extreme” cover-up . This administration is corrupt and self-serving and their untruths need to be exposed.

I still remember exactly where I was when I heard of the attack. I felt like our country had been attacked (And it had). The pictures haunted me. Now I am sickened beyond belief at the cold blooded acts and abject failure of this administration. Those pictures should be shown again and again. This is not a “scandal”, this is a call for impeachment and prosecution.
Your article doesn’t say if this latest e-mail is part of a cache unveiled by Judicial Watch, but I wonder how much more is to come out. The thing that struck me was all the copies which were sent to these people. It means they all are implicated by their silence and failure to turn their copies over to Congress. This is indeed starting to look like a Watergate style cover-up.

For someone of his age and life experience one would expect that he figured out by now that wanting to be noble doesn’t pay off nor does it impress ppl like Obama or for that matter the majority of Dems. They never, never give up and they don’t eat their young the way the Repubs do.
I’m just glad this whole mess doesn’t rise to the level of scandal as Watergate did. Just counting the dead bodies from Watergate takes my breath away. Oh wait. No dead from that scandal, on 4 dead from these inept clowns.
