OFA Campaigns to Get Young to Buy Unneeded Insurance

Thought you might enjoy this video, in which Obama’s political arm tries to get parents to tell their young adult kids to buy insurance they don’t want. It went out this morning to the millions – probably tens of millions – who are on the Organizing for Action email list.

The young and healthy are the lifeblood of Obamacare. Without their dollars, the system can’t support the older, sicker people who are signing up.

Obamacare is much like our other entitlements, Medicare and Social Security. It’s basically a tax on the young to support older Americans and those with health problems.

Remember, Medicare and Social Security are funded by current taxes. They were sold as “savings” programs,” but they’re not. Your payments just entitle you to money from the young when you get old, just as you fund your elders in your youth.

America already cannot afford its existing entitlements. They’re good programs in theory – no senior should be left destitute – but they need to be reformed for future retirees. Instead of doing this, Obama added a new entitlement. A new tax to break the backs of current workers and businesses.

And that, folks, is why,  instead of recovering from the recession, the economy staggers about like an stressed-out soccer mom who mixed her Xanax with her chardonnay. The recession itself of course was the consequence of another liberal quasi-entitlement – affordable housing for those who can’t afford housing.

  1. Watched it with the sound off, just so I could see what they did with the visuals without hearing the agitprop.

What was the budget for that, $200? You could walk onto the campus of, I don’t know, Middle Tennessee State, take the first senior in their Mass Communications program you find, and they’d make a video with more effective visuals.

Maybe the sound might work as a radio piece. But that, as a video? If the eyes get bored, the ears won’t stick around.

    • “If the eyes get bored, the ears won’t stick around.” – Darkangel.

Truth, Darkangel! But remember that we are talking about Obama voters. Considering their emphasis on the Government paying for their (somtimes exhorbatant viz. Sandra Fluck) birth control expenses AND abortion expenses, I don’t know if it’s exactly the EYES Obama voters are using the most…

Although, considering a fairly large percentage of them voted for him only because he has a dark skin tone – a purely visual aspect that tells you NOTHING about a person’s ability to govern – you may indeed be absolutely correct…

  2. Wow, Obama’s all about the “redistirbution”, isn’t he? And I have kind of a guilty schadenfreude thing going about the fact that the “chickens are coming home to roost” on the very folks who put him there in the FIRST place… first the unions “found out what’s in it”, now “the young” are actually learning what they elected … I wonder who’s next…and how?

Anyway, this was all predicatable, even the unbending part in Obama that keeps him from even letting someone else save him. Adam Smith saw our insurance-agent-in-chief coming 200 years ago:

“The man of system…is apt to be very wise in his own conceit; and is often so enamoured with the supposed beauty of his own ideal plan of government, that he cannot suffer the smallest deviation from any part of it… He seems to imagine that he can arrange the different members of a great society with as much ease as the hand arranges the different pieces upon a chess-board. He does not consider that in the great chess-board of human society, every single piece has a principle of motion of its own, altogether different from that which the legislature might choose to impress upon it.

The Theory Of Moral Sentiments, Part VI, Section II, Chapter II, pp. 233-4, para 17.”

Pretty prescient, huh? Fits him well…

      • Adam Smith does have a rather turgid style, and his books are HUGE, but he DOES have a – lot – to say about us TODAY that applies NOW.

I don’t know how you feel about political satarist P.J. O’Rourke, but he does have a very nice summary work on The Wealth of Nations that includes many quotes and good information about the contents of Adam Smith’s masterwork, but spices it with his own brand of humor and political commentary. Everyone might not like it, but it DOES make Adam Smith digestable, and I would recommend it for that purpose. I know it helped ME…

If you’re interested, here’s a link to his Web site.

No, I don’t work for Mr. O’Rourke. I just like him, as I do Mr. Koffler, so I hope he excuses this one-time commercial…

  3. I thought they were going to talk to him about dropping him from their healthcare plan, but only because it would be better for him if he bought a plan that included aborticants, coverage for pre-natal care, ovarian cancer, etc. You know, stuff he really needs, because it’s about the greater good, but especially the children.

    • I’ve only become aware of this one-plan-serves-all idiocy over the past few days. I guess it’s one the things in Obamacare we had to pass to find out about. A sixty year old married couple would also have to have a plan covering ‘reproductive rights’ and maternity too. But it does show that the rollout or sign-up is not the only thing wrong with Obamacare.

  4. My daughter got something from Wendy’s, her employer–I asked her was it about insurance. “I don’t have to talk about that now,” she snapped. Not happy.

  5. And that, folks, is why, instead of recovering from the recession, the economy staggers about like an stressed-out soccer mom who mixed her Xanax with her chardonnay.

More like swallowing down a handful of Seconals with a Smirnoff chaser.

  6. What a condescending piece of propaganda! Junior can sport around with his IPhone and new SUV living on his own but Mommy and Daddy have to henpeck Junior into being a responsible person. Are Mommy and Daddy going to follow him around with their arms open ready to catch him if he falls? Mommy and Daddy going to choose his girlfriend and confirm he uses a condom as well ?

I wonder how much the Democrats feel about their President raising money for his own future party?

  7. And you will also be seeing blog posts where “normal” people parrot that their insurance policies were “substandard” and that they are being replaced with more “robust” policies via the marvel of Obamacare.

  8. Spot on. He’s never, ever in the last five years focused ‘like a laser’ on unemployment. After the first time he said that, what did he do? He rolled out his socialized medicine plans. In the end, I just can’t imagine how many billions of our dollars will have been wasted not only on Obamacare but on all his other entitlements and stimulus programs. In the end it will be billions wasted and not a damn thing to show for it.

    • Doctors and hospitals are in the same boat as other Obamacare supplicants. They have to sign up for it to find out what’s in it. Unsurprisingly, they can’t get ANY straight answers about things like reimbursement rates or payment schedules, and – having been burned by the Feds via “assigned” reimbursement rates and disallowed expenses in Medicare- they simply can’t run their businesses that way, with uncertainty and not knowing if they may even LOSE money on some procedures.

Even non-profit hospitals can’t survive running at a LOSS. This is Business 101. Of course, Obama’s never held an honest job in his life, or done ANYTHING other than rabble-rouse for his whole career, so there’s no reaons HE would know that.

The fact that ALL of Obama’s departments run amok and ALL of his underlings do illegal things (Lous Lerner, Eric Holder, Katy Gilligan-Sebelius, “Richard Windsor”, etc.), demonstrates that he has NO idea how to even manage people. Even if you accept his constant recitations of “I wan’t informed” or more recently “I found about about it in the papers same as you”, then that speaks VOLUMES about his “executive” abilities. Any CEO of ANY company would be surely and swiftly fired if his veeps went out lawbreaking and stuff, and all he could say is “I don’t know what the people under my command are doing”! Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way in Gubmint Land…

I suppose it’s – possible – he had some business courses at Columbia or Harvard. Let’s look at his recor – oh, wait, they’re sealed, aren’t they? Well, isn’t THAT convenient! Well, “by their fruits ye shall know them”, and looking at the fact that EVERY Federal department runs around like chickens (comin’ home to roost!) with their heads cut off now, I would say he either had NO such courses, or hooked ALL the lectures so he could go out ‘choomin while doing long, stoned rambles on the greatness of Alinsky as only a Marxist college student could…

Most of them grow out of it. Peter Pan Obama never HAD to. THAT’S why we are here today.

  9. The party of unintended consequences– give ’em a free ride on pappy’s policy til 26 followed by an insignificant consequence of $95 penalty/1% of income (greater of) AND NOW BEG THEM TO APPLY FOR KEVORKIAN CARE….

  10. Rubber meets road now – all those lefties that campaigned with youthful energy for their political savior now have to pay for their choice. Lessseee, what will the young liberal choose….

    Please circle your answer:
a – “I’ll be consistent and support, with my own money, the causes I believe in for the good of the country”
b – “I’m not sure if this is really saving money and I’m only making $15k annually at my co-op, non-profit but I will do my part *sigh*”
c – “I vote for programs and make *other people* (read 1%ers, evil Republicans) pay – don’t you know how liberalism works?????”

Ding, ding, ding – C is the correct answer.

    • Good list, but you left ONE choice out;

d – “I vote for people because they are Black. Nothing else matters.”.

(with the caveat tht the Herman Cain/Clarance Thomas/Condelezza Rice corollary which states that only Liberals are ACTUALLY black in play, as always…)

Unfortunately, this is the MAIN reason he got elected – and (cheating aside), RE-elected, and ALSO the reason he will – never – be impeached.

Obama and Company have made a very comfy living in beating their breast about how Black people are treated “differently”. I agree, he IS treated differently because of his apparent race. He would NEVER have been elected had he been White, and even if he WAS, he would NEVER have gotten away with the illegal machinations that put Obamacare in play; and – were he White – and done EXACTLY the same things, he would have been not just impeached but REMOVED FROM office – a VERY long time ago…

So that’s the OTHER reason in Liberal Land for Obama. Sad to say, I DON’T see it changing any time soon…

  11. That young kid sure had a nice shiny SUV and was that a house he was departing, on his way to the parents? He must be doing pretty well for as young as he appeared. Guess he’ll have to decide whether to make the car payment, mortgage payment, or pay for Obummercare.

Or, maybe his mommy and daddy will pay his premiums, similiar to what the dimocrat bragged about the other day. How his wife paid for their 33yr old son’s premiums. ;)

  12. Every disaster has its moment of clarity. Physicist Richard Feynman dunks an O-ring into ice water and everyone understands instantly why the shuttle Challenger exploded. This week, the Obamacare O-ring froze for all the world to see: Hundreds of thousands of cancellation letters went out to people who had been assured a dozen times by the president that “If you like your health-care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health-care plan. Period.”

The cancellations lay bare three pillars of Obamacare: (a) mendacity, (b) paternalism and (c) subterfuge.

  13. If there goal were really to have more people insured, they would have let everyone keep the policies they were happy with AND let them choose new policies, as their needs change, with no government mandates. And they would have encouraged young people get genuinely cheap, bare-bones catastrophic plans, promoted with ads about young people who broke a leg while skiing or something.

The Democrats’ approach pushes the opposite way. It’s inducing many previously insured people who are healthy (and not necessarily young) to decide it’s better to bank those thousands of dollars and have it to pay cash if something comes up, and hope it’s not something that eats all their savings. Otherwise, they would just be hemorrhaging cash for the foreseeable future, and still have to pay several thousand in deductibles if something happens.

  14. Got to admit, the spot is well done, and it will make people chuckle, but that does not equate to an insurance sale. The young man is exactly the type that will not buy coverage. He’s too consumed with his job , FB, finding the next party, and looking sharp. Plus, lets be honest, the kid has a smart phone, dresses conservatively but not shabby, drives a late model car….duh, he probably already is educated and has a job with benes.

    Funny….yes. Effective, nope.

    • Funny? Not in the way they intended. It was off-key and lame. People trying so hard to be cool, and completely missing the mark.

I thought it was the worst bit of propaganda they’ve done so far.
