NBC News: Consumers are Facing Obamacare Sticker Shock

NBC News reports Monday morning that anger over the Obamacare is much worse than just frustration over the website.

From the report:

Frustrations go much deeper, with many middle class consumers like realtor Deborah Cavallaro in Los Angeles complaining of sticker shock after learning they must buy new policies that cover more, but also cost more.

Cavallaro: I am incredibly frustrated. Our premiums were supposed to be going down. Well that is precisely the opposite of what is really happening.

Cavallaro’s insurance company sent her this withdrawal notice reading, “because of the requirement of the new laws, we can no longer offer your current individual health benefit plan.” Their most similar new plan will cost her 65 percent more.

The administration acknowledges some American will pay more, but many people will get subsidies to help offset the costs.

But of course, taxpayers are financing the subsidies.

  1. Why that’s just terrible. She lost her old policy and is now forced to pay more than 50% more for about the same thing. I suggest she write a strongly worded letter to her Congressman or US Senator.

    1. It doesn’t matter, In my opinion, if the prices were much better.

The Price we are all paying is not in dollars, but in our individual liberties.

We have allowed the federal gov’t complete control over 1/6 of the economy
we have allowed the federal gov’t control over what health care we get.
I mean, the unknown person in charge of the website is now in charge of whether people have health care. And they are ONLY complaining about money???

Frogs in a pot of boiling water.

      1. My favs are ‘thinking about cremation?’ or ‘plan your funeral now’.
Geeminiee, can they at least wait until someone is lying abed in a hospice?

One of my visiting offspring once brought my mail in and was shocked; ‘are you sick? why didn’t you say something’. I had to explain that after you hit a certain age, industries pop up assuming your life is just about over and the only thing to plan for the future is death.
Not a life-long dream of a fabulous cruise, or finally learning how to play a piano, or anything positive. Just death.

We can be sure that no one is sending end-of-life planning brochures to SenMcCain or MrsClinton, or even Harry Reid.

  2. Obama and his family went to church Sunday so they must have gotten a heads up that Meet The Press and others were going to do some not so pleasant reporting on Obamacare. I bet Barack prayed hard for David Gregory’s sinning ways.

Don’t you wonder why they went to church at all?
Did they wake up and say, let’s pray together? No.
Did they say Let’s go and be seen as people who care? No, that can’t be it either.

    Strange family those Obama’s.

    1. Michelle Obama’s Mirror (link at left) has a good piece on the church appearance and all of Obama’s scandals. (OTJust a small, delicious jab was that MO was a 50 year old woman in a 20 something party dress and hooker boots.)

      1. I SAW her Street Walker outfit and figured she was out all night partying without Barack and when she came waltzing in at 7am, Barack said, woman, get thee to church, ask for forgiveness for your ways!

      2. Going further OT: The photo showing the boots with the spike heels got me thinking: psi vs WhiteHouse flooring

“Humans will only have one foot on the ground while walking. Estimate that the area of the heel on a man’s shoe is 10 in2. When he walks, a 200 lb. man exerts 20 psi because the weight is supported momentarily by the heel. A 100 lb. woman exerts many more psi when she wears heels. Depending on the area of the heel, she can exert as much as 1600 psi under a ‘stiletto heel’ ¼ inch on a side. This explains why people with wood floors don’t want women walking on them in high heels.”

MrsO isn’t a small person so ….she’s pounding @ 3000 psi on hard surfaces. Even marble floors can be damaged.

  3. I have little sympathy for anyone at this point – especially for those who ever supported the law and/or voted for King Barry. None of this is surprise for everyone who warned you!

  5. I once told two competing small biz copier sales/repair guys that who ever could give me the best service at the lowest price was my guy. They almost killed each other to get my incredibly small biz. How is this basic law of economics lost on liberals? Don’t they have copiers?

      1. LIKE! The first thing that crossed my mind was the Beverly Hillbillies with Granny in her rocking chair on top of the car. 2013 version would have Granny in a wheelchair.

    1. Good question. How can they not comprehend that you can’t buy unlimited goodies with limited funds?

Obama and company should try selling the following auto insurance policy: No increase in premiums and no limit to payouts regardless of past driving history. No. It. Does. Not. Compute. Why can’t the Democrats do this math?

(Then again, they’re led by a man who can’t tell time…)

    1. It’s oozing into the news–all the backend problems. I think the Post even said the front-end problems were almost good bec they masked the backend ones. It will all come out in the fullness of time.

  6. Suggestion for the satirical quote of the day:

“No, this new health care system isn’t as bad as those scaremongering Republicans said it would be. In fact, it’s much, much worse.”

Figure out the attribution, and you’re all set.

  7. But … but … her old plan wasn’t very good, and now she’s getting a better plan! I know, because Juan Williams and David Axelrod said so!

    1. I saw that–when Juan said it–the rest of the panel almost laughed in his face. Yeah, yeah…that’s it…they just wanted her to have a better plan..more for less…yeah..

  9. It’s beginning to look like ACA was a criminal operation beginning with the 2,700 page bill that was rammed thru without one Republican vote on Christmas Eve 2009 – culminating in Pelosi’s words: We have to pass it in order to find out what’s in it.

Now that we’re finding out what’s in it, it’s not passing the smell test. Combine this with the waivers, the illegal one year delay of the employer mandate, ACORN navigators, and the latest news that the web site was designed by MO’s college classmate with a no-bid contract….it reeks of collusion and corruption.

We need to halt all further enrollments in this criminal enterprise pursuant to a top-level investigation. Something is rotten in Denmark!

    1. Well Girly1, that would be up to congress to halt it.
      Good luck on that !
The new shiny object that Obama is pushing is the immigration bill.
      Fast and Furious
      Benghazi
      IRS scandals
      NSA infringements
      No matter, look over here.

If this doesn’t impact the democratic party and Obama at this point, this Country is doomed.

      1. How can it not?

The low-fo crowd is now getting a taste of the socialism they thought someone else would always be paying for. And, as it turns out, they don’t much like it.

The GOP needs to step back, and let this go forward as scheduled. Let the whole diabolic house of cards collapse. Do NOT throw the Democrats a lifeline here. Let them own this debacle, and let them own it good and hard.

Because once the low-fo set sees that it really is about absolute power and total control over their lives, they WILL start getting informed. And the free ride the Democrats have been getting at the ballot box will be over.

        Forever, we can hope.

        1. I saw one of those “millennials on the street” roundups and some gal said she was sure President Obama could fix everything. Little stars were in her eyes.

  10. Sure am glad to see the “media” is finding these stories to report. I don’t know if any of those “journalists” come here, but if they do – hey, here’s a tip for you guys…. if you had not been so busy reporting that the tea party was made up of racists, homophobes, and hatemongers, who wanted to starve children, make us all breathe dirty air, and throw granny off the cliff… if you had actually Listened to what the tea party (most of whom Had read the bill) was warning about, none of this would be news to you this far down the road.

    I’ll be in my bunker..

  11. Austan Goolsbee is trying to spin O-care sticker shock and dumped policies, and it’s surreal.

Hannity says: Obama said premiums would drop by $2,500 a year per family but instead premiums are doubling. Goolsbee says: “But it’s lower than it would have been if the law hadn’t been passed!”

Yes, the Obama-flak wants us to believe that the sudden leap in premiums (after gradual increases over the years) WOULD have been an even bigger sudden leap if not for the law that requires insurers to cover much more than your old policy did, for all comers unconditionally.

Goolsbee is also flogging the virtues of the “minimum requirement”: i.e., the government is just watching out for your best interest by requiring you to buy “coverage” for conditions that you cannot biologically get (e.g. pregnancy and pediatric dental) or will never have as a matter of rational choice (e.g. substance addiction).

Perfect example of the arrogance and dishonesty of the left.
