Carney Acknowledges Some Can’t Keep Their Insurance

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney today admitted what everyone knows, that President Obama was wrong when he claimed that if people liked their health care plans, under Obamacare, they could keep them.

Obama was either deaf and dumb to his own plan or he lied, because with its one-size-fits-all approach, Obamacare inevitably puts an end to some insurance plans that don’t include all the goodies required.

Fox News correspondent Ed Henry, who asked about Obama’s statement, lets Carney off the hook a little bit with his helpful comments about people ending up with “better insurance.” Well, if they’re getting more insurance than they want or need and paying more for it, then it’s not “better insurance” for them. But at least he asked the question.

Notice the desperate fusillade of spin from Carney. This is classic – and well played, from a professional PR point of view – obfuscation, trying to subsume the bad news in a think layer of pillowy spin.

  1. “think layer of pillowy spin”, that’s soo, well, accurate.
It might describe what everyone around MrObama must do to protect him from public scrutiny.
Unfortunately for MrO, it’s now time to decide if he’s a bald-faced liar, or an uninformed dunce. Does he know anything about anything that he’s responsible for overseeing?

  2. It’s not better insurance when both the premiums and the deductibles are higher, and the only “better” part is a lot of stuff you’ll never need or want. It’s only “better” from the standpoint of those who claim to know best what we all should have (or pay for).

Re: sticker shock, I mentioned on an earlier thread the bizarre way the Obamabots are explaining it away: They say the premium increase would have been higher if the law hadn’t been passed! That’s right: by far the highest one-year increase anyone has ever seen in their premiums, which just happened to coincide with the full implementation of Dem-care, WOULD have been an even more shocking sudden jump in price if they hadn’t passed the law!

How do you reason with people who think that way?

  3. With Obimination Care I’m losing my health plan that I spent quite a bit of time on the phone and online researching and putting together. The plans I’m offered for my age and pocketbook, because I don’t get no stinkin’ subsidies!, will have less coverage and will cost me at a minimum $130 more per month. So, I’m paying more for a lesser plan. Glod bless us — better living through Government!

  4. The one thing this admin does quite well is spin the truth like and tell whopping big lies. Obama said if we liked our doctor, we could keep our doctor. Obama said if we liked our insurance, we could keep our insurance. Obama lied, our insurance is fried.

    • That’s when he was campaigning. Caught a bit of Rush today on my walkies and he listed all the “lies” Obama told to get elected. Had the media fact checked all his blah-blah-blah, we’d be griping about President Romney right now :D

  5. “Obama was either deaf and dumb to his own plan or he lied, because with its one-size-fits-all approach ….”

Obviously a liar, who never put on a pair of pantyhose. : – )

    • One more thing..

“Notice the desperate fusillade of spin from Carney.”

I did and if Carney had been at the Ford Theater, he would have said to Mary Lincoln, “Great play wasn’t it and the seats were comfy, too.”

  6. Why hasn’t any reporter asked Carney about all the Medicaid enrollees?
The NYT had a chart this weekend of the WH per state projected/expected ObamaCare numbers versus actual numbers; the third column was the percentage who enrolled in Medicaid. It was shocking. I think Oregon had 100% of the applicants in Medicaid!
I tried to find and link the chart here but I wasn’t able to locate it. Anyone else see it?

  7. Well, well, well. When you lose NBC…the National Buhrr-rock channel, you’re really in trouble…

    >>President Obama repeatedly assured Americans that after the Affordable Care Act became law, people who liked their health insurance would be able to keep it. But millions of Americans are getting or are about to get cancellation letters for their health insurance under Obamacare, say experts, and the Obama administration has known that for at least three years.

Four sources deeply involved in the Affordable Care Act tell NBC NEWS that 50 to 75 percent of the 14 million consumers who buy their insurance individually can expect to receive a “cancellation” letter or the equivalent over the next year because their existing policies don’t meet the standards mandated by the new health care law. One expert predicts that number could reach as high as 80 percent. And all say that many of those forced to buy pricier new policies will experience “sticker shock.” <>>Yet President Obama, who had promised in 2009, “if you like your health plan, you will be able to keep your health plan,” was still saying in 2012, “If [you] already have health insurance, you will keep your health insurance.”

“This says that when they made the promise, they knew half the people in this market outright couldn’t keep what they had and then they wrote the rules so that others couldn’t make it either,” said Robert Laszewski, of Health Policy and Strategy Associates, a consultant who works for health industry firms. Laszewski estimates that 80 percent of those in the individual market will not be able to keep their current policies and will have to buy insurance that meets requirements of the new law, which generally requires a richer package of benefits than most policies today.<<<

    • I wish I could be as gracious as you, but I have no sympathy for these people that helped push Obamacare onto the public. People tried to warn what would happen and were called teabaggers and other vile names. We were mocked, ridiculed and became the punch line of thousands of cruel jokes because we knew they were selling snake oil. Now, the Democrats own this, every last bit of it. I take no delight in watching the Obama regime fall. Our country has been destroyed or nearly destroyed and our grandchildren will never know the America we grew up in.

      • I agree. And it will get worse with the Navigators and now the Black and other churches getting involved — and it will not only involve health insurance but registration and voting as well. This system is rotten through and through.

        • I read the story earlier in the day and thought Sixty and stuck on stupid. She’ll pay through the nose until she is on Medicare, a supplemental and Part D and then she’ll pay through all the other orifices as well.

I will not be attending her pity party, but I am more than happy to throw her a “I told you so” one.

  8. Valerie Jarrett ✔ @vj44

FACT: Nothing in #Obamacare forces people out of their health plans. No change is required unless insurance companies change existing plans.

With this tweet Valerie Jarrett — aka vj44 — has come out of the shadows on Obamacare. Seems to me this makes her fair game for interviews, questioning, social media responses etc. Especially since Obama and others are now copping to the fact that they knew not everyone would be able to keep their plan.

The Alinskyite Left would target her if she was a Republican, It annoys me that the conservatives and Republicans do not do the same.

    • quote from New Yorker editor David Remnick’s interview with her for his 2010 book The Bridge.

“I think Barack knew that he had God-given talents that were extraordinary. He knows exactly how smart he is. . . . He knows how perceptive he is. He knows what a good reader of people he is. And he knows that he has the ability — the extraordinary, uncanny ability — to take a thousand different perspectives, digest them and make sense out of them, and I think that he has never really been challenged intellectually. . . . So what I sensed in him was not just a restless spirit but somebody with such extraordinary talents that had to be really taxed in order for him to be happy. . . . He’s been bored to death his whole life. He’s just too talented to do what ordinary people do.”

  9. I find it disgraceful that this president and his administration knew for 3 years that millions of Americans will not be able to keep the private insurance they have had for years and are quite happy with!! How dare they?? When,I ask, are the people of this country going to come out of their coma’s,and see Obama for what he truly is, a SOCIALIST and perhaps the anti-Christ! This man needs to be impeached. He is by far, the WORST PRESIDENT we have had since LBJ. Wake up America, before this President totally ruins this great country and permanently plunges us into the abyss!
