In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Obama: I Have Consistently Sought Compromise

President Obama Tuesday declared that as president he has consistently sought compromise with Republicans, even as he refuses to negotiate with them on legislation to reopen the federal government and raise the debt ceiling.

Speaking to WABC TV New York, Obama said of Republicans, “I take their ideas all the time.”

I think that if you look at my track record over the last four years, I have consistently sought compromise, sometimes to the point where Democrats have been mad at me . . .

If you look at both my polices as well as the approach that I’ve taken in governing, there’s a lot of overlap between what I’m proposing and what Republicans have proposed n the past – I take their ideas all the time. What we haven’t seen is a willingness on the other side to engage in the basic compromises that are required for governance.

Republicans would certainly disagree that Obama has been a consensus seeker, pointing first to Obama’s signature initiative, Obamacare, which passed without a single Republican vote.

Here’s the complete interview. Obama’s remarks on his cooperative spirit begin at 3:45.

    1. Obama is the only person in the world that is allowed to make up his own facts.
Because no one will ever call him out on it.

He spins and twists and grapples the truth and everyone else acts like what he says is the gospel and backed up by a millennium of research.

  1. If it wasn’t for the traitorously complicit media, President Petulant would not be able to lie at will and the American people would not be suffering the worst economic recovery in modern times.

    1. Amen, Geoff. How that foolish woman can sit there and listen to that fraud lie with a straight face is beyond my comprehension. State-run media is the 5th column – providing aid and comfort to our enemies as they take down America.

      1. Susan, the man child is a narcissistic, pathological liar. As I’ve stated numerous times, he wouldn’t know the truth if it jumped up and bit him in his little skinny a–!

        Semper Fi

      2. He was never properly vetted by the media either. See: Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Ted Cruz, et al.

Back in the day, I took an entry level GS-2 clerk-typist job which required a top secret clearance because the command I worked for would expose me to sensitive information on ship/troop movements. I also needed my original birth certificate and SS card, and every address I lived at since birth, plus my school transcripts from every school attended, credit, bank and work history. The FBI interviewed former and current neighbors, bosses and co-workers. Asked them about my behavior, if I stole anything, who I hung out with and have they ever seen me drunk or high.

I don’t think Obama would have gotten that job :D

        1. It’s outrageous that they don’t do background checks on Presidential candidates. I agree, no way could Obama have passed that the type of check you had.

        2. Spot on.
“Barack Hussein Obama” could not pass a basic background check to enlist in the US Military… and he is “CINC” of the US Military, makes me puke.

        3. In the Vietnam era my ex was with the Signal Corp and had a
lengthy process for security reasons made even worse because his mother was half Russian and half Chinese. Her
father was in the Tzar’s army and fled to China and married after the revolution it was a long process and for one soldier. We let this nitwit in on I guess his Q rating.

      3. I wonder what effect. if any, an Obama interview has on ratings for these podunk reporters. I, for one, consider him to be a national bore/boor. George Bush, on the other hand, had a sense of humor and could be witty at times in spite of his problems with grammar. He always made me laugh. Obama makes me run for the remote control.

  2. Whopper after Whopper after Whopper. On the sacred day that this rabble rouser fraud departs the white house he will undoubtedly tell us how he left the country in better shape. ya right- a bloated shape!

  3. After 5 years you would think that our fine US citizens would learn that whatever President Obama says – he is doing exactly the opposite. It is amazing to me that at this point in his political career that this contradictory behavior is not only better understood but outright ignored. As Patrick Henry wrote so long ago, “Bad men cannot make good citizens. A vitiated state of morals, a corrupted public conscience are incompatible with freedom.” The road we are traveling has a well beaten and well documented past.

  4. “Republicans can go along for the ride, but they have to sit in the back seat” has been his mantra for the last 5 years. Pelosi actually locked the door to Repubs during Obamacare negotiationsos. Harry Reid refuses to bring Republican amendments to the floor. Compromise is a four-letter word with these communists.

  5. “I think that if you look at my track record over the last four years, I have consistently sought compromise, sometimes to the point where Democrats have been mad at me . . .” – The Spiteful Divider

Sorry, (breath), that was (sniff) UNBELIEVABLY comical!

    After all, who can forget THIS gem from The Great Compromiser;

“We don’t mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back.” – The Angry Caliph

    Or this one on his illegal EO implementation of The Dream Act;

“And as long as I’m President, I will not give up on this issue, not only because it’s the right thing to do for our economy — and CEOs agree with me — not just because it’s the right thing to do for our security, but because it’s the right thing to do, period. And I believe that, eventually, enough Republicans in Congress will come around to that view as well.” – B. Hateful

    My new favorite from this same site;
“Due to Congress’s failure to pass legislation to fund the government, the information on this web site may not be up to date. Some submissions may not be processed, and we may not be able to respond to your inquiries.”

And a larger catalog of his “Compromises”:

“It is in his weekly addresses, however, that Obama has proven himself to be a true partisan warrior. During his first term, Obama attacked Republicans directly in 44 weekly addresses, nearly one-quarter of his entire output. What makes this number even more striking is that, from the time of Senator Arlen Specter’s party flip in April 2009 to Scott Brown’s arrival in the Senate from Massachusetts in February 2010, Republicans were wholly powerless to stop the president on Capitol Hill. So through most of 2009, attacking Republicans was pointless (although Obama did manage a dig at them in December that year, when he chided House Republicans for currying favor with special interests to stymie the Consumer Financial Protection Agency).” –

And let’s not forget that Prezzy publically called Republicans “Enemies”. He won’t even call AL-QAIDA that!

“Were going to punish our enemies and were gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,” – Mr. Compromise Personified

There’s many, many more, but not enough space on the whole Internet for them all! Suffice to say that Obama may consider it a “Compromise” that he even PRETENDS to consult with Congress, but the rest of us in reality land know that he is unfamiliar with the meaning of that word. I guess they just didn’t teach that at Madrassa in Indonesia when he was growing up.

No matter. It’s just another lie, on a pile of lies, in a steaming lie sauce. Maybe he just lost track of the lies, as inveterate liars sometimes do.

Either way, hopey, we know better. You compromise only with Muslim terrorist and holocaust deniers, but NEVER with Republicans.

    Maybe that’s what he means…

  6. The more I thought about this, the more it made my head explode. Then I watched a video linked on Drudge (CNS news) where people in DC were interviewed and asked who was most reponsible for the shutdown, Obama or Bush. I had to glue my head back together so it could explode again.
Honestly, this president will never be held accountable for anything. Ever, ever, ever. God help us.

    1. I wasn’t sure what you were referring to, then I found the video.
      Geeminny, Bush? Bush did it!

I’ll bet a case of BillyBob beer that those people didn’t even know who this “Bush” guy is, butt they were never going to blame their hero, Obama.

  8. “consistently sought compromise” ? His type of negotiating is like Chicago politics, thugly. Do it my way or else. He’s not a very nice guy, I just wish we had a more honest media so we could have a more honest government. Obama’s poll numbers would be in the teens by now if we had real journalism.

  9. We’ve seen and heard it all from MrObama from out&out lies to fantasy conclusions. Is he that dumb or that smart?
He knows from experience that none of the MSM will confront his, um, views of reality, so why wouldn’t he just put the best spin, or light, or explanation on everything. Whatever he states is allowed to be whatever he means it.

Those who don’t read anything beyond People magazine or just listen to the “news” on the comedy shows, will only hear or know that he is just a wonderful guy who is being fair with everyone.

  10. Meanwhile, Mark Viser at the Boston Globe would disagree. “As president, Obama has taken more trips to South Korea (three) than he has to South Carolina (zero). He’s been to Ghana but never to Utah. He’s visited the citizens of Denmark (twice) more frequently than the residents of Kentucky (once). Overall during his presidency, Obama has spent an average of less than four days in each of the red states he lost in 2012, while he has spent an average of 23 days in each of the blue states he won…”

  11. Oh, is that what “I will not negotiate means?”
And here I was thinking it meant “I am King Barack and it is my way or the highway.”

  12. Another day, more lies from the Spite House. Here’s an interesting article about ValJar being the architect of the shutdown.

“It was during one of those nightly sessions that Jarrett devised the no-negotiating strategy that Obama has employed in his fight with the GOP over the government shutdown,” Klein said, citing sources within the administration.

“Valerie came up with the concept late at night, after the kids and grandma and were gone.”

“She convinced the president that a government shutdown and default offered a great opportunity to demonize the Republicans and help the Democrats win back a majority in the House of Representatives in 2014 .

. . Valerie also came with the idea of using the words `hostage’, and `ransom,’ and `terrorists’ against the Republicans,’” Klein said.

  13. Interesting enough Mr. Ineptitude more than likely believes what he says. This is a common behavioural trait in a narcissist, especially one with a Jupiter sized ego constantly massaged by MB Valerie Jarrett.

  14. Obama is a pathological liar and delusional. The country will suffer for generations for electing this sick person President….twice.

I will never forgive voters for being so ignorant and naive.

  15. how does he not get called on this? how does he get away with baldfaced lies? when will SOMEONE SOMEWHERE SOMEHOW saying “Oh come on, Mr. President. you know and I know that’s not the case”?
