Obama Hasn’t Been to Church in Over Five Months

If President Obama is praying for guidance on how to handle Syria, he’s not doing it in church, where he has failed to set foot on more than five months.

The president, who on the rare occasions when he does show up in a chapel often makes a high-profile stroll with his family across Lafayette Park from the White House to St. John’s Church, hasn’t been to services since Easter Sunday, March 31.

Obama has found his way to the golf course a couple of times on Sunday since then, although the president generally plays golf on Saturday.

White House aides have insisted in the past that Obama prays with the ardor of an apostle when he’s out of sight for the weekend at Camp David. The only problem with this is that he rarely goes to Camp David. And it’s unlikely he spent much time in the chapel there when he last visited in August, since he had a posse of rowdy friends along that weekend to help him celebrate his birthday.

Obama should have plenty of incentive to make it to St. John’s, since last time he was there the Reverend Dr. Luis León’s sermon echoed of some of the harsh rhetoric the president directs at Republicans.

“It drives me crazy when the captains of the religious right are always calling us back … for blacks to be back in the back of the bus … for women to be back in the kitchen … for immigrants to be back on their side of the border,” said the good Dr. León, who presides over what is known as “The Church of Presidents.”

Here’s some video of the Obamas making their last known pilgrimage to a house of worship.

  1. Keith, you don’t have to go to Church to be religious. It’s possible he’s a solitary Bible reader. Hey, said it’s possible, not that it’s likely.

Besides, Obama seeks solace, and advice from a higher power than the Lord. Himself. Why go to Church when you always know what’s best?

      1. Julie – maybe a “Whoops, there it is!” song with lines like:

“God helps those who help themselves.” – Whoops, there it is! (WTIS!)
“Money is the root of all evil.” – WTIS!
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” – WTIS!
“God won’t give us more than we can bear” – WTIS!
“Spare the rod, spoil the child.” – WTIS!
“God works in mysterious ways.” – WTIS!
“Cleanliness is next to godliness.” – WTIS!
“Pride goes before a fall.” – WTIS!
“A fool and his money are soon parted” – WTIS!
“This too shall pass” – WTIS!

  2. Perhaps the congregants of St. John’s got tired of the smell of sulfur left behind when Obama visited.

If Chavez can say it about Bush while addressing the UN, then I can say it here about Obama!

    1. I used to be a member of the Episcopal Church, and I can tell you that they have become the Church of the Latest Politically Correct Thing so the congregants of St. John’s love the smell of sulfur he leaves behind.

      1. I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to pause for a moment and give thanks for the many great contributions of the Black community and their culture to our society. Their peaceful and generous nature make them ideal neighbors, lending testimony to their exceptional family values and parenting skills unrivaled by any other culture.
Their commitment to academic excellence enriches our schools and serves as an example to all who hope to achieve prominence as a people. Real Estate values are fueled by the influx of African Americans into an area due to their caring and respectful nurturing of these communities, an example of all they have achieved by their enthusiasm for self improvement through hard work and a self-reliant can-do nature. Without their industrious and creative drive, we would be poorer as a nation.

  3. Considering the way the pastor hated who Obama hated from the pulpit that Easter Sunday and aided Obama in his divisiveness, I’m surprised that they DON’T hang out on the golf course together!

President Barack Obama exits St. John’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Luis Leon after he and the first family attended Easter services, Sunday, March 31, 2013, in Washington.
/ AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster “I hear all the time the expression ‘the good old days’,” Leon said. “Well, the good old days, we forget they have been good for some, but they weren’t good for everybody.

“You can’t go back, you can’t live in the past,” he added. “It drives me crazy when the captains of the religious right are always calling people back…for Blacks to be back in the back of the bus, for women to be back in the kitchen, for gays to be in the closet and for immigrants to be on their side of the border.” – Dr. Luis Leon

Feh. It’s all taqiyya with this guy anyway. He was raised Sunni Muslim, schooled in a Sunni school, and by Islamic law, he’s STILL Sunni Muslim. NO Islamic cleric, regardless of how crazy or hate-filled he may be, has declared a fatwa on this most public of apostates, suggesting that the Islamic world regards Obama’s “Christianity” as just a tool for the furtherance of the cause of Mighty Mo, and therefore entirely excusable.
    http://www.islam-watch.org/Warner/Taqiyya-Islamic-Principle-Lying-for-Allah.htm

    Whether Obama is Christian or not is between him and Christ; however, the Bible does say we CAN discern falsehood by the results, thus;

“15 “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
16 “You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?
17 “So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.…” – Matt. 7, 15-17

We’ve gotten nothing but thorns from THIS guy; so, given that and his outward lack of public interest in a Lord that requires public interest, e.g. Luke 9:26 “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory, and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels”, what OTHER conclusion is possible other than that which says his STATED faith, like so much ELSE he states, is simply a public prevarication for political convenience and nothing more?

This also helps explain his stance on abortion, even to the point of it’s unconstitutional funding. And so many other actions…

  5. There’s no religious test for office. I care fuckall whether he worships in a church or in a bathtub, nor do I care a whit whom he chooses to worship. Unless it’s some crook like Jamie Dimon.

  6. He was reading Bible on the day of Benghazi attack, when nobody knows where he was or what he was doing. So there is no need to go to church all the time, when you can read bible at home.

  7. On board with theocracy, then? Or perhaps merely ostentatious spectacles of worship and prayer will suffice. Breaking: the appearance of spirituality says nothing of the heart of a person. And perhaps it would be worthy to contextualize the church-going habits of the modern presidency by cross-referencing against several of Obama’s predecessors, including Saint Reagan.

    No? Thought not.

  8. For DStorms, sirius, et. al. –

The point is not whether Obama goes to church or not. The point is that he CLAIMS to be a practicing Chrisitan, and the evidence is against it – as the evidence tends to be against MOST of what he says, including things HE said in the past that conflict with things he says now.

You are correct, though. It matters not if he goes to church, mosque, temple, or whatever for the purposes of being president. It matters not if he chooses to worship the ever-popular “Flying Sphaghetti Monster”, or if he leaves flowers on a shrine to himself every morning. None of this is in the job description for POTUS. You are right about that.

What matters IS that, based on this and other burhan, it appears to be not just another lie, but a lie about his core beliefs for political purposes. If a man can lie about something so fundamental to who he claims to be, what WON’T he lie about?

Actually, I think history has already answered that question as it pertains to Obama…

      1. Thank you, Susan. I feel nothing but pity for them, because I can understand the grasping nature that a G_dless worldview can inspire. If one truly believes that what we see is all there is, I can well imagine how this could make a person bitter and ungracious.

A worldly existance, even one as lavish as that enjoyed by the Obamas, is still limited by flesh. Sure, you can eat lobster now, but you’ll be eating dirt later. Of course you can enjoy the beach, but your reservation yet awaits midst graveyard dirt. Glorify yourself with political power now, but you and all your works will be as permanant as those of Ozymandias.

        Here’s a nice, secular way of putting it;
        “To die, to sleep,
To sleep, perchance to Dream; Aye, there’s the rub,
For in that sleep of death, what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause. ” – Shakespeare, “Hamlet”

Do you think the secuarlist here ever contemplate what they may dream about when they meet with “Death, that necessary end” that “will come, when it will come”? I think they do; and fear that there’s nothing for them other than what they take NOW is what drives them.

Indeed, if one’s Weltanschauung is that there is no G_d, then there is no brake on their activity, and no reward – now or ever – for not being as low as you can be. Why not lie, cheat, steal, rape, and murder your way through life – if NOW is ALL you have? Wouldn’t living in the moment require one to do whatever one can for oneself, and d@mn be the man who tries to stop you? Oh, wait, can’t d@mn him, no He!!. Ok, call “racist” on the man who tries to stop you, to them, that’s the same thing…

Take what you can. Give nothing back. That’s what you end up with. Could be the mantra of the typical Obama supporter, nicht wahr?

And, at bottom, there’s this; if they hate Christains, then by definition, they must hate Obama as well. HE claims HIMSELF to be Christian; therefore, to them, he must either be a liar or a fool. Either way, why do they still love him? THERE’S a question only G_d can answer!

We can’t hate them. We can only pray for them.

        G_d bless, Susan.

    1. And it does matter if our president is an Islamist. Islam is more than a religion, it is a system of government. It is totally incompatible with America’s Constitutional Republic.

  9. And your point, exactly, is what?

That the Pres doesn’t appear sufficiently pious in your judgment? I think your Bible has something to say on this point. You could look it up

And since when does the Pres have to pass a religious test? Did I miss the article in the Constitution that requires the President to worship Jeebus?

  10. With all due respect, and I feel this author deserves none….Why don’t you compare the church time with bush43 or Reagan? Oh, it’s because then President Obama will be seen as having gone to church MORE than either past Republican President.

  11. Rich (In Name Only) in Reno

Mathew 5: 5-6; And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

  12. I hope to live long enough that a president—or any official—is no longer compelled to claim belief an imaginary best friend in the sky as a prerequisite for election.

And anyway, isn’t this kind of mandatory public religiosity the sort of thing you’d more expect to find in a Muslim country than in a western democracy?

      1. Sadly, too many politicians – at least the bright, well-educated ones (which excludes most members of the Republican Party – know (rather than believe) we are here as the result of a great cosmic accident.

In fact, last week NASA released new findings from the Mars rovers indicating that the fact that Earth has anything living on it is an accident from when Mars was forming – also an offshoot of the big bang. It appears that the reason the molecules and matter necessary to form water ended up on Earth was because of asteroids bombarding Mars, which sent particles flying off into space and some of them ended up here.

As for me, I hope in my lifetime to see a president say right out loud for all to hear, “I don’t believe in some pretend friend in the sky pulling all of the strings that give some babies blonde hair or send innocent American kids off to fight in useless wars like the ones in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

  13. “One of the embarrassing problems for the early nineteenth-century
champions of the Christian faith was that not one of the first six
Presidents of the United States was an orthodox Christian.”
    –The Encyclopedia Britannica, 1968, p. 420

  14. Gotta love this reedonkulous attack because it takes only the first two sentences for the pious writer to demonstrate he doesn’t know the difference between a church and a chapel. Stone the infidel President and his infidel accuser too. ;)

  15. Dear Keith: I take it the reason you’re so het up about this is that you’re such a dedicated churchgoer yourself. Yeah, that must be it.

  16. ‘Well there’s a rumor that Obama has worn out 15 prayer rugs since becoming president. If there were a Mosque close by he’d go.

    1. …how many sets of golf clubs has Dear Leader Obama worn out on Sunday mornings?
…how many vacations/hang-overs has HRH Michelle had on Sunday mornings?

  17. I betchya Zero has the altar at Camp David somewhere. You’d think someone, a maintenance person, or military low life, might have come across it. How often does he go there, and the Mrs. probably too.
    He hasn’t ever been baptized.

  18. One of the things I admire about Pres. Obama is that he doesn’t play at being a “Christian” like our last president, who prayed to an imaginary friend in the sky for guidance on how to tell 935 documented lies to the country as a pretext for invading a sovereign nation that never did us any harm and posed no threat. Pres. Bush, the pretend Christian, heard from his imaginary friend that he should set up a situation where thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi’s would be killed, set in motion a civil war in Iraq that still goes on, and leave 100,000 Americans and more than a million Iraqi’s with lasting, debilitating wounds to their body and psyche.

If only there were a hell so Mr. Bush could rot there.

So, please, Pres. Obama, stay away from churches. They’ve never done anyone any good. Just as Galileo.

  19. Keith Koffler, I’ve never heard you speak, but I’m pretty sure you sound like the Church Lady on SNL. “Hmm, playing golf instead of worshipping. Well, isn’t that convenient.”

  20. And how, exactly, assuming this irrelevant grab-bag of conjecture is even true, does Obama’s lack of visits to church differ from his Republican predecessors? How often did Ronald Reagan go to church and how much time did he spend praying before he signed off on selling arms to Iran to fund an illegal war?

    1. That’s not precisely true. My hunch is that he’s had sex all by himself countless times since Thanksgiving, which may explain why he comes across as such a wanker.

  21. I was taught that when one wishes to convert to Christianity one must first renounce the other religion and then be baptised. Can anyone tell me when Obama did that?

  22. I missed one day of WHD because my computer died. One day!
Now catching up, and wondering what rock all the left wing trolls crawled out from under.

    1. I know! Any time you have the words “church” or “abortion” in the article they come crawling out. I noticed it on NRO also. They must just have a program that scans the internet for those words and then they relay that to all the trolls. Maybe NSA subcontracts the work?

    1. Church is not a building; church is a group of people who gather (sometimes in a building) to worship God. Reading a Bible alone at home is not a substitute for gathering with other believers as Jesus instructed us to do.
