In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

The Obamas Taste The Sweet Life

President Obama proved Sunday night that even as he fights for “the middle class” he prefers to hang out with “the upper class,” indulging in an expensive repast at the overpriced “The Sweet Life Cafe” on Martha’s Vineyard.

The Sweet Life
The Sweet Life al fresco

Dinner can easily run above $200 for two, even if the Obamas stick to the Let’s Move diet plan and share dessert.

Maybe they started with the Menemsha Lobster Soup And Salad, which according to the menu includes “Lobster crema accompanied by a lobster corn bread panzanella, corn salsa and chervil.” Not sure what some of that stuff is, but I want it.

That sets you back $17.00, which is about average for appetizers.

On the main course menu, the Obamas could choose anything from a nondescript “House Made Fettuccine with seasonal market vegetables” for $29.00 all the way up to the “Rocky Mountain Lamb Sirloin And Black Garlic Braised Lamb Belly,” served with “feta, caponata, onion rings and herb salad” for $40.00.

The wine list is a stunner that includes the chance to slurp down a $296 bottle of 2008 vintage Opus One Napa Cabernet.

The sweet life indeed!

  1. Lamb from the Rocky Mountains? I hope I never hear Michelle telling people to eat sustainably by eating locally grown veggies and meat.

    1. I didn’t even think lamb was in season until the spring ? Growing up in the northeast, leg of lamb was traditional Easter dinner because that’s the only time of year it was available ?

Dang, if I spent good money on fancy eats in New England, bring me their scrumptious local seafood !

  2. After their sumptuous feast at La Dolce Vita, Michelle LaVaughn was spotted loading up the SUV with platters of lobster tails, buckets of Mememsha lobster soup, and 3 pecan pies. Returning to their $7M rental mansion, she immediately barricaded herself in the luxurious 2000 s.f. master bedroom. Local residents were awakened early this morning by the shrill sound of sirens screaming through their sleepy neighborhood. Rushing outdoors in their night clothes, they discovered that the paramedics were loading Michelle LaVaughn into the back of the truck. She was found unconcious on the floor of the master bedroom – surrounded by lobster shells and pie crumbs. Hospital spokes persons report that she is recovering nicely after having her tummy pumped. Doctors have ordered her to follow the rigid diet she has imposed on her royal subjects – eat the ‘damn’ peas!

  3. I promise you, they are enjoying every mouthful and laughing in between…C’mon over here to the DFAC (Dining Facility) Mr O and eat with us.

  4. Ah, yes, the indefatigable and unrepentant Obama sweet life! Reminds me of this classic White House Dossier gem:

“…According to ABC’s Jake Tapper, the president savored some lobster tempura at the trendy State Road Restaurant in West Tisbury on Martha’s Vineyard. Oh, just the thought of it. If he brings some back to the White House for me, I’ll write whatever he wants.

“Monday night at The Sweet Life Cafe in Oak Bluffs on the Vineyard it was the lobster pasta appetizer for the president and a surf and turf entrée – the “surf” being a lobster tail – for Mrs. Obama….”

  5. We, the taxpayers, spent a billion dollars keeping the Obamas safe and warm for the last five years, and they are multi-millionaires who are renting a multi-million dollar summer home for a week. It’s not surprising that they would patronize an expensive restaurant along with the other 1% residents they call their friends.
They may have come from humble backgrounds, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t enjoy their new wealth and position.

I know, I know, it’s the hypocrisy of the champion of the middle class, the prophet of redistributed wealth (ours, not his) and the phony connection with Target shoppers that makes their personal life of the rich and privleged gall all of us.

    1. srdem, I also question who actually pays for all of their meals. They are grifters of the highest order and either expect to be comped, or we’re paying. I just don’t see him opening his wallet for anything.

    1. It made me think of last nite on CHOPPED where the judges said a chef’s cinnamon bun soaked with beef blood did not work for him. Also–lobster over cornbread…that is just wrong.

  6. Nice name for the wine in honor of O’s election: “2008 Opus One”.

Ironic. That’s about the price of a bottle of wine that “elitist” Paul Ryan was attacked for drinking a few years ago by a lady lib who not only wrote up the crime, but also managed to get a shot of the receipt.

What she failed to address was the fact that Ryan never ordered the wine, graciously accepted a single glass from his hosts, and then generously paid for the entire bottle (and a large tip) to avoid even the appearance of impropriety. What would have qualified him for near sainthood as a liberal instead sentenced him to infamy because he belonged to the “wrong” party. Fine Whine. Indeed.

  11. I am a homeowner and would like to improve my
carpentry/construction skills. I am a teacher and have the summers off, which I would
    like to spend improving my house. This isn’t just to save money;
I really want to learn how to do it.. . I once converted a garage into a sculpture studio,
so I have some skills/successes (can build
a wall, install new windows and doors, wiring, put in
a floor) and some failures (leaking skylights).
I’ve also put in fences, built bookshelves and done some plumbing.
Plus sculpture!. . I know I could take classes at a tech school, but I’m looking for other hands-on ideas where I
could learn from someone. Books are great but
I need to SEE it and be able to ask questions. Though I have the summers off, they are short and I have young kids.
I’d like to work a bit for someone for free in exchange
for the teaching – is that feasible? I’m not incompetant, but I am female :
