In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

  1. “GOP knows public may oppose shutdown . . . Examiner”

Yup. You’re absolutely right. The no-info voter WILL hate you reflexively. They’ll hate you anyway, though, just because they’ve been trained to for so many years, so it’s not like they’ll EVER be your freinds in the first place…

Of course, you do have an alternative. Rubber stamp everything Obama wants, and just hope he lets you keep your cushy job. Pretty much what McCain, Boehner, and McConnell do anyway.

Seriously, guys, take a stand. On SOMETHING. If you REALLY want to be Democrats, at LEAST have the decency to officially change parties. I’m sure you’ll be well rewarded, just like Benedict Arlen was for giving Obama his Obamacare prize…

Mr. Specter was one of the FEW Republicans to become Democrat BEFORE he died. C’mon guys, show us your TRUE colors. Either suck it up, grow a pair, and ACTUALLY – not symbolically – oppose The Angry Caliph on ONE of his tyranical power grabs, or just paint yourselves blue and reap your reward. Don’t tire us with more puling and vacillations either way. You don’t do EVERYTHING you can to stop Obamacare from completing Obama’s destruction of the country he hates, you won’t make any Democrat freinds, but for SURE actual conservatives won’t vote for you either.

    Your choice…

    1. Spot on, cincycinco. The Republican party has one last opportunity to fulfill their pledge to kill Obamacare. It is the whole reason they won the House in 2010. Instead of a call to arms to take this liberty-stealing behemoth down, all I see are a bunch of cowards hiding out behind their corporate masters. They bluster and crow about their 30-something symbolic show votes to repeal, but they are missing in action when it comes time to actually take a stand. Well, I’m taking a stand. You vote to fund Obamacare in this continuing resolution and you lose my vote. This former GOP member will not forget your betrayal come election time. I’m talking to you, Senator John Cornyn. The weasel signed on to Senator Lee’s letter and then promptly removed his name. Now he’s on all the local news stations claiming to support defunding, but he wants to write a separate bill to defund it. In other words, another symbolic show vote. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I won’t be fooled by this weasel again.

    2. I just read that Karl Rove has written a petition to the GOP Congressional members and collected a 100 signatures of big name politicians and donors urging them to pass a comprehensive immigration ‘reform’ bill including amnesty. The GOP establishment, just as much as the Democrats through the IRS, is trying to kill the conservative movement within it. But you and I have had this conversation before. I just wanted to say that 2014 is our last chance to take the behemoths down.

  2. here is one you missed Keith –

When I started reading the article, through fits of laughter, all I could think of was some of her classic quotes.

“Today we have two Vietnams, side by side, North and South, exchanging and working. We may not agree with all that North Vietnam is doing, but they are living in peace.”

“I stand here as a freed slave because this Congress came together.”

And yes, the classic Flag on Mars comment.

I think the CBC has lost their mind.

  3. Another massive prison break, this time by the Taliban in Pakistan. Added to the 500 Al Qaeda in Iraq and the 1,000 Al Qaeda in Benghazi, it is a huge indicator of how things are going in the Arab world, and narry a word from Obama, Kerry, and the former Secretary of State whose tenure made all this possible.

  4. You know what is starting to frost my cahooties–the meme that goes, “Oct 1, you can call or go to a website and sign up for health care.” SIGN UP TO PAY FOR HEALTH CARE YOU MAY NOT NEED OR GET!!! PAY PAY!! It’s not like send the card, thanks–even if you do get a subsidy. And to get that you sign away your most intimate financial and health info.
