Just when the economy was starting to show signs of life, President Obama is set to launch a big new effort to curb global warming, according to the New York Times. And guess what? It doesn’t involve Congress!

President Obama is preparing a major policy push on climate change, including, for the first time, limits on greenhouse gas emissions from new and existing power plants, as well as expanded renewable energy development on public lands and an accelerated effort on energy efficiency in buildings and equipment, senior officials said Wednesday.
Heather Zichal, the White House coordinator for energy and climate change, said the president would announce the new policy initiatives in the coming weeks. Another official said a presidential address outlining the new policy could come as early as next week . . .
Ms. Zichal suggested in her remarks that a central part of the administration’s approach to dealing with climate change would be to use the authority given to the Environmental Protection Agency to address climate-altering pollutants from power plants under the Clean Air Act. She said none of the initiatives being considered by the administration required legislative action or new financing from Congress.
In his Berlin speech today, Obama warned of Biblical consequences if he doesn’t act.
The grim alternative affects all nations — more severe storms, more famine and floods, new waves of refugees, coastlines that vanish, oceans that rise. This is the future we must avert. This is the global threat of our time. And for the sake of future generations, our generation must move toward a global compact to confront a changing climate before it is too late. That is our job. That is our task. We have to get to work.
First of all, if all this stuff is going to go down, I want my weapon handy to ward of the “new wave of refugees” headed my way from the coast. And not something that takes only two shots and I gotta reload, Biden.
Second of all, the earth’s temperature has not risen for 15 years. I’m just saying.
Third of all, can we please get back to saying global warming instead of the relatively recently fashionable climate change. You may have noticed that once the earth did indeed stop warming, people started talking about “climate change” so they could blame greenhouse gases for hurricanes, tornadoes AND EVEN FOR COLD WEATHER.
And finally, would one of you monarchs from the G-8 countries please hand Obama a scepter while he’s in Europe since he has decided to continue ruling by fiat. If he’s going to ditch his signing pen, he needs a scepter right away. Thank you.

Next to Death Valley, my neighbors and I live in one of the hottest areas in the US, the deserts of Arizona. It’s no hotter here now that it was last year or thirty years ago. We’re hoping for the next el Nino (or the other one) to bring us some beautiful rain, but other than that, we’re just chugging along as always.

Out here in the wild West, we’re more worried about the Yellowstone Park caldera, and California falling into the sea after a major earthquake. If the Yellowstone volcano blows, the earth will cool down withing three months, everything will die, and the earth will be covered with ice within 10 years again.
If California drops into the Pacific, millions of Americans will perish, and the resulting tsunami will wipe out all of the Pacific Islands, Japan, and most of Asia.

I believe in the Gaia theory that, like us, the earth is an organism which was born, flowered, is aging, and one day will die. Any changes which occur over time are not because of some well deserved punishment from God, but on the other hand, there is not a thing man can do about it either. Obama’s Brandenburg speech illustrates one of the most distinctive characteristics of how he speechifies: He yaks about the past and the future, but rarely speaks about the present. He emphasizes the past (it’s Bush’s fault, previous administrations, the way it was before I got here, how awful the past was, etc) and the future (man-made global warming will kill us, I will propose such and such, the future is going to be great if you vote the way I want you to vote, etc). He spends very little time on is the present moment, the present conditions, the current crisis he’s created–Fast and Furious, Benghazi, the IRS and NSA scandals, etc. Very odd. But certainly understandable in his case.

Watching Willie Stark (Broderick Crawford) make a campaign speech promising “free medical care” and other preposterous promises in order to get elected was spooky. He sounded (and even used some of the same phrases!) Obama used in his campaigns. Worth watching it to get some insight in how Obama and company operate today.

I quit a reading group I quite enjoyed last September when the Benghazi story broke. I found out how idolatrous the other members of the group were of Our Dear Leader and Our Future Lady, So I left before I could lose my cool. ‘Man-made CO2 doesn’t appear physically capable of absorbing much more than

And, if all of the available heat in that spectrum is indeed being captured by the current CO2 levels before leaving the atmosphere, then adding more CO2 to the atmosphere won’t matter a bit.

The other “greenhouse gases” such as methane, nitrous oxide, tetrafluoromethane, hexafluoroethane, sulfur hexafluoride, trifluoromethane, 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane, and 1,1-difluoroethane exist only in extraordinarily smaller amounts and aren’t even up for serious discussion by any segment of the scientific community. And, since the other components of the atmosphere (oxygen, nitrogen, and water vapor) aren’t materially affected by human activity, the “greenhouse effect” is essentially a totally natural phenomenon, unaffected by human activity. We could repeat the spectral analysis and calculations for Oxygen, or O2 ( The percentage of oxygen in the atmosphere remains exactly the same at all heights up to about 85 km, and is about 20.9% by volume ) and Nitrogen (N2) which is the whopper at 78.1% – but we won’t. We’ll leave that as your homework problem now that you know how to do it. Just look up the atomic absorption spectra for both, and do the math. You’ll discover that Oxygen and Nitrogen aren’t even “greenhouse gases”, so that leaves the principal greenhouse gas… you guessed it…. Water Vapor. Curiously enough, the UN IPCC reports don’t even mention water vapor, since it is technically not a “gas” in the atmosphere. Dr. Roy W. Spencer has one of the best comments we’ve read on this subject:
“Al Gore likes to say that mankind puts 70 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every day. What he probably doesn’t know is that mother nature puts 24,000 times that amount of our main greenhouse gas — water vapor — into the atmosphere every day, and removes about the same amount every day. While this does not ‘prove’ that global warming is not manmade, it shows that weather systems have by far the greatest control over the Earth’s greenhouse effect, which is dominated by water vapor and clouds.” ‘

A recent NASA report says CO2 reflects the solar heat back into space. Fact #1 CO2 is used in greenhouses to increase plant growth, up to 4000ppm, however humans can only servive in the greenhouse when CO2 is 2000ppm or less.
Fact #2 H2O emitted by the cooling towers of nuclear plants contribute more to the greenhouse warming effect then any other gas.
Fact #3 78% of the atmosphere is nitrogen, 20% is oxygen, 2% is all other gasses of which less than 1% of 2% is CO2.
Fact #4 if all human production of CO2 stopped today only 0.25% of a gas that is less than 1% of the atmosphere will go away the 0.75% of the CO2 that will continue to be in the atmosphere comes from Volcanoes, cows(animals), and rotting vegetation.
Fact #5 any attempt to curb human CO2 production will put thousands more out of work, and bankrupt the US treasury.

Global Warming / Climate Change?
If you are worried about storms and flooding try maintaining the drainage. It also reduces the available moisture that storms need to grow.
First of all, I don’t really believe in all this global warming stuff that the liberals have been preaching about. They’ve been preaching it for years and none of that stuff has turn out to be true. And second of all, when I really think about, if those types of calamities really do come to pass, I’d be much better off living through them than I would be living under Obama’s policies and his idea of America. I’m hoping that the next president won’t be as bad as he is. It’s embarrassing to feel this way about him.
