President Obama appeared exceedingly sleepy at the annual National Prayer Breakfast today, looking like he was having trouble staying awake as others spoke and delivering his own remarks ponderously, with heavy eyelids and a tired visage.
Obama, who rarely holds a publicly announced event before 10:00 am and is known to be a nighthawk, was forced to show up at the breakfast at 7:55 am.
While listening to the warmup speakers, the president’s eyes were frequently downcast, he appeared drawn, and he was chewing gum, presumably the Nicorette he is known to use to satisfy his nicotine addiction without smoking. He occasionally brushed a finger onto an eye, as if trying to remove morning crust or wetness. He sometimes seemed to miss his cues to laugh or smile politely at jokes.
Obama appeared to labor particularly hard to stay awake while opera singer Andrea Bocelli performed a dirge-like classical song accompanied only by piano.
The president perked up a bit during the keynote address by pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Benjamin Carson, who spoke of his rise from poverty and the need for better education in America – though Obama appeared to begin getting sleepy again when Carson started promoting a flat tax.

Don’t you know that everything changes when a Democrat takes office? For another example, have you noticed that “the plight of the homeless” has suddenly disappeared from the media? You’d think that despite record long-term unemployment, EVERYBODY now has a home.
Not to mention gas prices. Bush was constantly attacked for gas at under $2/gal. He even was accused of ‘manipulating’ the market when it would go DOWN! The flat-out bias is unreal.
The only homeless we hear about now are the people

Well, I’ve been looking at myself in the mirror for 59 years, and smoking weed for 38 of those years, so I think I would know if I look stoned or not. Plus, I only smoke at home, never went to work stoned in my entire life, and am a responsible, home-owning, tax paying citizen. Pot should be legalized, it is far more beneficial than harmful.

I actually sort of agree–it may be beneath us. But I think a lot of people are outraged at being treated as the enemy or at best, off-handedly or disdainfully by this WH. So there is a sort of satisfaction–maybe unbecoming–in lashing back.

I vividly recall Obama’s shockingly somnobulistic performance at last year’s Prayer Breakfast – remarking to myself that the guy can’t function when he has to get his lazy butt out of bed before 10:00 a.m. He almost had to be propped up in his chair. I suspect there is more to it, i.e. drugs/alcohol. He was borderline incoherent.
It’s too bad the 3 Presidential debates weren’t held at 9:00 in the morning. We would be looking at President Romney.

Think of it this way: Science and human reasoning can tell us what things are. Science can answer “is” questions. What IS the age of the Earth? What IS the speed of light in a vacuum? What IS the result of mixing two chemicals? We can know these answers.

According to your explanation, a thought is subjective, therefore has no value because there is no moral truth. What is science without “shoulds” or “oughts”? In this very instance we would not be able to come up with any hypothesis to test. I do not refute science, it does as you had explained, but it is not the all encompassing aspect of human life.
Point being, how can there be human reasoning if there is no basis of truth? You contradict yourself, sir. Also, when you look at what man has uncovered to date in regards to the Universe, I’m pretty sure science in itself can solve this puzzle.

How can science exsit without fundamental truths? The apple falls from the tree… the law of gravity. This is a truth and many more ideas can be tested because of it.
Saying that, there has to be moral truth as well. Using your ice cream idea you elude to the realm that everyone is right (value judgement for a positive outcome). I don’t think it’s possible to come up with a greater contrast than Dr Ben Carson and Obama. The former is a humble man of faith, of exceptional gifting and diligence, and respected for the content of his character. The latter is an average man, a narcissist worshiped primarily for the color of his skin. Dr Carson represents all that is right about this country; Obama, most everything that is wrong. How exceedingly sad that Obama slept his way through this rarest of opportunities and privileges to sit in the counsel of true wisdom. Sad, but not at all surprising.
Readers, please do yourself a favor and watch “Healing Hands,” the inspiring story of Dr Carson. You will be blown away.
I actually met Dr. Carson a number of years ago. He is a delightfully funny and genuine human. He is also very humble, though he knows that he has a gift for healing, he is not pretentious, and gives the credit for his talent to the Great Healer.
