As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

Obama’s Execrable Use of Children to Sell His Gun Proposals

At many White House events, whoever the president is, there appear what we in the White House press corps call “the sob stories.”

These are the people who are supposedly adversely affected by the status quo, which the president hopes to change with his brilliant new initiative. Often the sob stories will speak, detailing how they incurred some profound tragedy from which only the president – with the cooperation of Congress – can rescue them.

The sob stories, whether they know it or not, are being manipulated to advance the president’s agenda. They may fully understand and support the president’s plans, or they may not. But they are being used as props for the benefit of the big guy.

That’s why rarely are the sob stories children. Because manipulating children for a politician’s gain is generally held to be a bad thing to do.

But not by this White House.

At Wednesday’s White House gun violence event, during which President Obama will unveil his gun control proposals, the props will be children who have written to Obama about their reactions to the shootings in Newtown.

Nothing tugs at the heartstrings more than children. Nothing could make Obama’s case more effectively than a crowd of innocent kids, hoping to avoid the fate of their unlucky peers in Connecticut.

It’s a disgrace to manipulate these children. But for a White House that portrays Republicans as heartless villains and that tore to shreds a good man named Mitt Romney, little is off limits.

The ends justify the means. Because when you are so convinced of your moral and intellectual superiority – of the supreme rightness of your position – as this White House is, whatever you have to do to get your way is worth it.

  1. It’s a disgrace to “manipulate” these children, Keith?

It’s an UNFORGIVEABLE disgrace to enable criminals to murder them. And that is what the GOP is doing if they block gun reform legislation. They are enabling criminals to murder children anywhere, anytime.

So let’s see if the GOP cares about actual CHILDREN trying to grow up in this country, and not just pretend they care about them by calling a microscopic fertilized egg in somebody’s womb a “child” that is “sacred”.

Call me a cynic, but something tells me that dog won’t bark.

    • Astraea,

Somthing tells me that “criminals” are not going to care about “gun reform” legislation. Thats why they are called criminals.

    • The maniac who killed those people in CT was not a “criminal.” He was an alienated, scared, enraged psychotic who started his killing spree AT HOME by blasting his mother in the face with her own guns. He, like Saul Alinsky, Frank Marshall Davis, and the Big -0-, was also a BOY WITH NO FATHER AT HOME. THAT should tell you something, and NRA and GOP had NOTHING to do with any of that.

  2. If gun control works, why didn’t Obama hold up Chicago as an example? Or maybe DC? New York?

And no expectation of any metric that would show improvement. No need to alter the environment for the low information voter.

  3. Disgusting. I’ve gotten upset watching press conferences before, but that made me physically ill. The left was standing on the bodies of those dead children to push their agenda before. That travesty of a press conference was DANCING on them.

  4. But I suppose an NRA ad campaign featuring Pres. Obama’s children is OK?

Seriously, twenty children died at Newtown — it seems to me that thye have a right to be present; every one of those children was present because their parents OK’d it. Possibly because the parents want to end the threat to someone else’s children. Here we have a situation where I would give my life to save another parent’s first grade child, but that person wouldd not even give up a single gun “right” to save mine. Huh?

  5. in the words of the sex pistols “no one is innocent.”

for the president, the mainstream media, the chattering class pundits, or the legions of talking heads to proclaim that the death of a child is so egregious, in relation to the death of a teenager, young adult, middle aged adult, or senior citizen, that any, and all measures, constitutional, unconstitutional, or inane, should be enacted so as to preclude the future possibility that anything untoward should happen to our precious chattel is not only absurd, it is utterly disingenuous.

more children are murdered in the womb on a single day than are killed during the entire year due to gun violence. it matters not whether one is pro-life, or pro-abortion, the fact is that approximately 2500 children are murdered every day through governmental imprimatur.

so, for the government to allege that the welfare of children is of such paramount concern that the rights of law abiding citizens requires abrogation to the point that self-defense is all but rendered meaningless, it would behoove the government to first consider its actions vis-a-vis the welfare of the nation’s most defenseless denizens.

  6. After Sandy Hook, it was difficult to take seriously the crocodile tears of a president who casually blows kids to smithereens with cowardly drone strikes.

  7. Here is another angle on this story, that I haven’t heard anyone in the media talk about. No doubt they are reluctant to. Obama knows he is not going to get any legislation passed on Gun Control, so he is taking this opportunity to basically spit in the face of those who against him politically on this issue. So the reason those children were on the stage reading letters, was because this is how Obama sees his political enemies on this issue. he believes gun supporting Americans are CHILDREN. So when they were reading the letters, Obama was stating to them. This how I need to speak to you so you will hear what I’m saying to you in a language you will understand. I guarantee in the near future this is what yo will hear from the LEFT Media. That Obama was mocking them, by having children speaking to children.

  8. “Hezbollah, al-Qaeda, Taliban, Saddam Hussein, and our current president of the US”. Eh…really ?
100% 5-year-old like emotions, 0% rational thinking, how sad.
How representative are the paranoid haters on this site for the USA ? Please let it be just a minority (a startled non-USA passenger)

  9. Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her
ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and
it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this
is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
