As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

Obama Vows More Tax Increases

President Obama this morning pocketed the Republican concessions on tax hikes included in the Fiscal Cliff deal and promised that it was only the beginning of new taxation to be assessed on the American people.

Obama, who appeared in the White House briefing room Tuesday night to hail the deal, made clear to Republicans that he will continue to seek a “balanced” approach to deficit reduction – White House code for “balancing” spending cuts with raising taxes. Meanwhile, spending on Obama-blessed programs will continue to rise, he asserted:

We can’t simply cut our way to prosperity. Cutting spending has to go hand-in-hand with further reforms to our tax code so that the wealthiest corporations and individuals can’t take advantage of loopholes and deductions that aren’t available to most Americans. And we can’t keep cutting things like basic research and new technology and still expect to succeed in a 21st century economy. So we’re going to have to continue to move forward in deficit reduction, but we have to do it in a balanced way, making sure that we are growing even as we get a handle on our spending . . .

Today’s agreement enshrines, I think, a principle into law that will remain in place as long as I am President: The deficit needs to be reduced in a way that’s balanced. Everyone pays their fair share. Everyone does their part. That’s how our economy works best. That’s how we grow.

While the Fiscal Cliff’s automatic deficit reduction included both tax increases and spending cuts, the deal passed by Congress Tuesday night relied almost exclusively on tax increases to pare down the deficit. The massive Fiscal Cliff spending cuts that had been scheduled to take effect at the beginning of the year are still on tap, but have been delayed for two months.

But if Republicans thought that out of fairness and “balance” the focus would now be on trimming spending, Obama’s comments made clear that they are deluding themselves.

Having been rolled by Obama into accepting a massive tax increase, Republicans will again be pressured into embracing a “balanced” approach that cuts spending but also socks the “wealthy” for more revenues.

  1. At least now the public knows for sure that Obama is an incorrigible SPENDAHOLIC, who sees the American worker as a “sucker” to bleed dry. He sees “entitlements” as a way to maintain his power base, not as a way to help people (other than helping people stay mired in poverty). Democrats running government spend much more than they take in, mostly on “entitlements” given to constituents as bribes, and then they try to cover for their fiscally scandalous behavior by TAXING their way out of it (resulting in a degraded lifestyle of WORKING citizens). It’s a spending problem, not a revenue problem. If you’re constantly spending over your credit limit on a credit card, the answer is to cut spending, not get a second job!! Spending more than you make is immoral and fiscal insanity………

  2. not cutting our way to propserity goes hand in hand with spending our way out of debt. sounds good to the sheeple. the devil is in the details. it just doesn’t fly.

  3. It must be remembered that Obama never held a real job and was always taken care of. A true “They Owe Me.” entitlement creature from child to a grown version of a child. Three noted university forensic psychologists have analyzed everything available on him and have seen a very close comparison between Adolph Hitler and Obama’s childhoods, which was a factor in them both being Pathological Narcissists. Obama has never had a background to become President, but he is an excellent controlled puppet. His two greatest aides are the teleprompters, major differences when he is required to speak without them, and Valarie Jarrett, who is basically his puppet master. It is rather evident that he would be totally lost without her being available 24/7 as his primary “Minder”. Anyone who has any interest in world and American history can easily see how those conclusions were arrived at.

After a contentious battle with Congress and midnight flight to Hawaii, President Obama got right back into vacation mode.

After landing in Honolulu just before 5 a.m., he headed to the home in Kailua where his wife and daughters had been vacationing without him.

Then he got an early start with a workout at the gym, and later hit the links at the Marine Corps Base in Kaneohe.

UPDATE: His golf partners included longtime friends Marty Nesbitt, Bobby Titcomb and Allison Davis, according to a pool report.

    • Boy – what a family man. After leaving them a week ago to return to negotiate you would think he would at least spend the first day with them. What a phony.

    • Oh, how cute. He’s jacking up taxes on 77% of the country, but signing the actual bill, once it gets its own flight to Hawaii no less, will have to wait until after he’s done with his golf game.

Now he’s just rubbing it in.

  5. I remember Ronald Reagan. This man is 180 degrees away from Ronald Reagan. We’re not a shining city on the hill anymore. WE’RE a horrible nation that deserves to be punished. We deserve to be poor, as he deserves to waste taxpayer money as our “Dear Leader”.
WILL someone please impeach this guy?

  6. What a retard. Everbody does their ‘fair share’ while getting zero.
There are millions of Americans who get nothing from anyone, who are near total disaster (like no food or shelter), for whom a job would preserve their life and self respect. Yet the idiot in chief, the moron in the big man’s chair continues to spew forth his lies and coded hatred for the USA.
Disgusting wretched SOB.. And perhaps this is the first time in my life where SOB applies literally.

  7. If Barry thinks we are going to take more tax increases,—it is time for him to be impeached. Then he talks about the Sandy hurricane and hardly a drop in the bucket for what they need. Yet he has money going to everyone else that really doesn’t need the help like those people. Barry is insane truly.

    • Unfortunately few in Congress care Barbara. Boehner and many of his underlings caved in and sold us out almost immediately after we gave them the huge mandate to de-fund Obamacare which Boehner promised to do. Now he says we have to accept it. There are still good people in the House but Boehner has done his best to silence them by removing them as committee heads. Between the traitors Boehner & McConnell, Obama is gloating over getting pretty much anything he wants.

  8. Actually Mr. President, government is an expense and cutting government expenses is the only was to rebuild a nation back into prosperity, just as you would do with any institution or business when it is in debt up to its eyeballs. If you cut taxes at that same time, you than give Citizens the opportunity to care for themselves rather than trying to do it through centrally planned redistrbution of wealth schemes. It actually pretty simple math. We’ve tried various schemes over the last 50 years, and none have really been successful, except when at a very high cost.

  9. Any takers on what unemployment will be after Healthcare decisions are made by companies over the next six months. Thes lay off and hour reductions with higher taxes will likely be hard to digest for this economy.

  10. We can’t keep cutting the President said — Keep cutting what???? He never cuts anything especially the sweet deals he has with friends and supporters. We went off that cliff long ago with the Spender-in-Chief. The only thing left is to hit bottom.

  11. One thing is clear, until we reign in the spending, Mr. Obama can talk all he wants and nothing will change for the better. It’s a sad day for all America because we are watching in real time a tradegy that mimics the demise of ancient Greece or the Roman empire. I think that the more the country gives to those now who expect it, the more problems we create because now we are sanctioning the behavior of doing nothing to get a lot of something. It’s too bad because our history shows we fought and died for better and to leave our kids and grandkids with this mess is just unconscionable.

  12. it is easy for the pope to slam our economy while the earth he serves under catholic guise prefers fascism…simply eliminating the poor..he should look in his own backyard first…..

  13. It’s pretty clear that Obama cares about Obama and that’s it. This so called deal is a blow to middle America and just wait until the Obamacare stuff hit? So, you see, not matter how you frame it, Obama is nothing more than a tax and spend Democrat.

  14. People these arent the Bush days and you are thinking you need to work and earn money but that is not longer the case, For 12 years you have worked hard and earned five trillion dollars a year for the government. I hope you can see you haven’t been respected for that. Take it easy. You have done your share. It’s clearly time for you to slack off a little and check out that lower tax braket. Spend more time growing your own food and fishing. You deserve to enjoy life after all that work for the last 12 years.
