Two of the Republicans’ hottest stars, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, will get prime slots at the Republican convention, with Christie giving the keynote address and Rubio offering a speech introducing Mitt Romney, according to reports.
Both were supposedly considered by Romney to be his vice presidential running mate.
The appearance of the two conservative heroes should help assuage the disappointment some will feel that people like Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich other leading conservatives are being passed over for speaking spots.
“I’ll try to tell some very direct and hard truths to people in the country about the trouble that we’re in and the fact that fixing those problems is not going to be easy for any of them,” Christie told USA Today. He’ll cite his experiences in New Jersey as evidence that “the American people are ready to confront those problems head-on and endure some sacrifice.”

Great Choices in both men. They will fire up that convention for sure!!!
Agreed.
Yes–adding zip. I am more interested–and I am already sold.
This is off topic (Maybe it isn’t) but this man is the type who should be speaking at BOTH conventions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuQweFeLOF8 We graduated him yesterday with his new service dog. He has more guts than all our politicians put together.
Agreed. Thank you Sgt. Yarosh for your service. My the Lord continue to bless and keep you happy.
Thank you for sharing the story of this wonderful young patriot, RickW. And thank you for helping him and others like him cope with their new lives.
What an amazing story! Now, this is who we would want our sons and daughters to be.
RickW, thanks so much for sharing that moving story with us. I’m humbled by and grateful for such courageous, remarkable young Americans. God bless him and others like him.
Up and coming stars of the Repub party, newcomers who are embraced outside of their own states, and a new wave for the future. These two men have been described on different media and at different times as the new Repubs. Outspoken, well-spoken and definitely likeable.
They’re two good choices for the speaker’s slots at the Repub convention.
Where is the new wave of Dems, the future stars, or ones who will shine after MrObama returns to his private life? Who will speak for MrO at his convention ; an obscure Hispanic governor , fauxohontas Warren and his wife, Michelle.
Sadly, one of my favorite Dems, Cory Booker won’t be speaking at the DNCC, but GOP John Huntsman will ?
Obama will not be UPSTAGED ! Ha!
When he sees the TV ratings he’ll find out how upstaged he was! Ha
Where’s Rep. Col. Allen West on the list of speakers?
“Sarah? Sarah who?” Mitt Romney
note: This is not an actual quote.
I Cant wait! to see Christie of New Jersey qoute some Bruce Springsteen, of New Jersey, in his speech
(New Jersey = what a state :-)
Perhaps he will quote some Whitney Houston as well?
Off topic, but you might find this of interest. http://freebeacon.com/democrats-website-details-bipartisan-ryan-plan/ This is a piece in the Free Beacon which refers you to Wyden’s website where he discusses and outlines the bi partisan Wyden Ryan plan. I checked the link to Wyden’s site and it is still up. Kinda’ takes the sails out of at least DWS’s shrill attack on Ryan’s plan as well as the Democrat throwing Granny off the cliff. I read somewhere that Wyden was trying to back off (he might have been Cory Bookered) but this still stands.
I hope they reinforce the stage to handle the weight of Fatty McWaddles Chris Christie at the podium, and that no crack addicts OD and die before the convention to prevent him from flying our flag at halfstaff at the convention.
Darrel, is the DailyKos-HuffPo missing a poster/moron? If so, you should scurry back there.
Oh LS — no fair. He is such a substantive contributor. :)
When name-calling is your primary argument, you know you’ve found a home in the democrat party. Congratulations the “hate of the day” post.
Darrel, when you have something worthwhile to contribute to the conversation instead of acting like a third grader calling someone “fatty”, then by all means, feel free to share it with the class.
I am fat–I know better ones than that, neener, neener.
You continue to support a socially liberal RINO like Chris Christie. I shall NOT support the fat tub of lard RINO. The man cannot even control his own exercise and eating – and yet you trust him to control a portion of our government. Flying our nations flag at half staff for Whiteny Houston when she finally died from a self inflcited OD? THAT is conservative??
No thanks, too many true conservatives who have enough pride, self control, and self respect to not be a walking heart attack. Put him next to Mooch Obama and SHE would actually look thin!
Ryan has 6% body fat–I suppose you love him…Were you large as a child or now–you sound kinda in the self-hatred area. Oh, well, I am not a shrink and not particularly interested in your psychological makeup.
I blogged in 2011 about Ryan’s exercise plan. P90X–don’t know if he still does it. http://healthsass.blogspot.com/2011/03/heres-beef.html
Yes I do like Ryan. He takes care of himself, is responsible, and never flew my nations flag at half staff for an OD’d crack addict.
Can’t help but compare and contrast the exciting Republican ‘up and comers’, Christie and Rubio, with the future of the DEM party – two hispanic mayors, Villaraigosa and Castro. Villaraigosa will wield the gavel, and Castro will deliver the Keynote speech. I wonder if Obama will repeat his immortal words – ‘Punish your enemies at the voting booth’ on Nov. 6! Or perhaps he will remind us again that our children need to learn Spanish!
