Biden Considers his $379K Income Middle Class

Vice President Biden thinks he’s in the middle class, even though his income far exceeds the $250,000 threshold President Obama set for raising income taxes on the rich.

According to his 2011 tax returns, Biden and his wife Jill had an adjusted gross income of $379,000 last year. And that, Biden siggested Tuesday in remarks to the National Council of La Raza in Las Vegas, puts him squarely in the middle class:

For middle class folks like me and most of you, owning a home is maybe the single most consequential element of our existence to be able to provide for our families.

Here’s some video of Biden’s remarkable claim, in which he suggested rich guys like Romney don’t understand common men like him who are only making close to $400,000 a year:

If Biden feels he is middle class, it may be due to his apparent inability to manage his finances.

According to a Dec. 1, 2011 report by the Center for Responsive Politics, Biden actually has a negative net worth.

On the other end of the Obama administration’s net worth spectrum are Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar. Both had enough liabilities to place their estimated worth in the negative.

Biden’s low estimated net worth is a result of relatively small income from assets and six liabilities which totaled  an average of $337,000. These include mortgages and home equity loans with a bank in his home state of Delaware, two lines of credit and a loan borrowed from his life insurance policy.

But if Biden considers himself middle class, Obama certainly does not. Obama’s proposal to jettison the Bush tax cuts for “the rich” pertains to those making more than $250,000 per year – whether they have somehow lost all their money or not.

  1. AND let’s not forget that several years ago Biden was accused and admitted to plagiarism while a law student. Too stupid for original thought. And this is what the great Obama thought was a worthy VP to himself. Sort of calls Obama’s judgement into question, doesn’t it?

  2. This guy makes Obama look like Einstein (and that’s a HUGE stretch). Middle class my butt! Making close to $400K/year does NOT make you middle class you imbecile!

  3. That guy gets relatively little for being the world’s highest-profile comedian.
Thank God for government: useless tards like Biden can be ultra-rich by telling lies all day and being completely dangerous to the world and citizens.

  4. How this EMPTY SUIT GUTLESS ABORTION SUPPORTER MAKES THAT MUCH MONEY IS BEYOND SICKENING.

THE GUY COULD NEVER, EVER MAKE IT IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR WHERE ONE’S PERFORMANCE IS BASED ON RESULTS, NOT GOING AROUND BEING A LOW CHARACTER EMPTY SUIT LIKE BIDEN.

HE CAN LAUGH ALL HE WANTS IN THIS LIFE, BUT I WOULD NOT, WOULD NOT, WANT TO BE JOE BIDEN WHEN HE ASK TO ACCOUNT FOR SUPPORTING THE KILLING OF MILLIONS OF INNOCENT CHILDREN IN THE WOMB (IT IS MURDER, PERIOD) AND SUPPORTING SAME SEX MARRIAGE AND SUPPORTING THE MOST PRO-ABORTION PRESIDENT IN OUR COUNTRY’S HISTORY.

NO, JOE BIDEN, UNLESS HE CHANGES COURSE, WILL HAVE A HELL OF ALOT EXPLAINING TO DO TO GET BEYOND THE PEARLY GATES, I CAN ASSURE YOU.

HE CLAIMS TO BE A CATHOLIC, IF THAT ISN’T THE BIGGEST PILE OF CRAP, THEN I DON’T KNOW WHAT THE HELL IS.

  5. How on earth can anyone rationalize and justify confiscating/stealing/taking money away from someone else in any manner, regardless if it’s a gunpoint mugging, or the IRS threatening jailtime? It is unfathomable to me that about 50% of folks in this great country don’t think that I am entitled to keep the money that earned. Earned. EARNED!! That’s right, I got my butt out of bed in the morning, got to work on time, performed my work duties adequately so that I didn’t get fired, and at the end of the day, 50% of the population (and of course this administration) think I should cough up 35% of MY earnings to them.

  6. Biden is mistaken. I don’t know any middle class Americans making that kind of money. Over $150, 000.00 per year is Upper Class as far as I am concerned. Middle Class is $35,000.00 to $ 125,000.00 per year. My wife and I together make less than $ 70,000.00 per year (before Taxes). We are Middle Class, not even upper Middle Class.

  7. And yet – Biden actually has a “negative” net worth? And THESE are the people who are guiding our economic future? And his donations to charity were listed as $5,540 for 2011. That’s 1.4% based on his adjusted gross – $379k – which is pretty pitiful! I think the average American gives more to charity than Biden who touts himself as being “middle class”! People better wake up and put some people in office who know how to run an economy!

  8. The hypocrisy of these people has no limits. They want the average voter to identify with them as middle class “folks” while in fact they are elitists who want to rule over all classes. They pander to the uneducated, illegals, and welfare class with promises of handouts to capitalize on their votes. They think we are too stupid to see their blatant activities to promote illegal voting in the name of “fairness”. They would sacrifice our liberty, sovereignty and national security in order to attain power over the people. They think they know what’s best for us. Class warfare is an old socialist/communist tactic and Americans should never take the bait.

  10. “totaled an average of $337,000”. Someone needs to go to math class. Do his six liabilities add up to $337,000? Or do his six liabilities average $337,000 each, which would be a total of over two million. ?

  11. Middle class? Middle of what? The 1%? Sounds rich to me – so raise his taxes! Another proof – as if we needed any – that the liberals are totally out of touch with reality!

  12. LBJ came to Washington broke. Never held a job in the private sector. Was a multi-millionaire before he became President.
Biden followed the same career path but didn’t reach Johnson’s level. Bad investments??
All this talk about Romney’s wealth, which he earned,(Gave most of his inheritance to charity.), but we never dealt with this garbage when JFK and his brothers ran Washington. Nor when Gore was VP.Nor when Kerry ran.
    Enough of this double standard!!

  13. Has there ever been a less significant politician in recent times, or anytime for that matter than ol Joe O’biden?? I almost feel sorry for the guy. He’s pathetic and almost delusional.

  14. And yet, Obama considers anyone making $250,000 or more to be RICH!! One of them is out of touch and the other is an imbecile. I leave it to YOU to decide which is which.

  15. Hahahahahaha! Yeah, right…I have never come close to that amount, Joe. And your income is significantly above middle class–especially now!. Go peddle your “I understand you” gobbledygook somewhere else!

  16. Since Democrats refuse to ;listen outside of their own perception and experience Biden “et al” need a few good swift kicks in the head

  17. Income Tax bracket does not equal Class! In the United States of America, how much you earn in a given year does not put you in a specific Class. Income can vary greatly from one year to the next. A professional football player can go from making $10,000 while in college to $10,000,000 when he goes pro. A business executive can go from a $1,000,000 a year income to a $15,000 income with just a pink slip from the Board of Directors. The Wealthy Class comes into play when wealth is inherited and passed down for several generations, when people feel that they deserve to be wealthy and powerful because of their family name. The Kennedy’s come to mind. Biden is in the upper Tax Bracket this year, but may be on welfare next year if the election goes the right way. Either way, he has no class.

  18. Does he not get it or what? As one of my old clients used to say, “Not only are you not in the ballpark, you aren’t even in the same city that the ballpark is in!”

Perhaps it would help him to read the article in this month’s issue of GQ, “Amber Waves of Green” by Jon Ronson. Would give him an idea of what middle class (and above and below) means. At $60K per family (many of whom would love to make that much) Biden could support six “middle class” families with some change left over.

It is absolutely no wonder that our politicians seem so out of touch. They are.

  22. It was a dumb thing to say, but not as far off the mark as people think. According to http://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_blog/2008/09/biden-releases.html , his income was under $250K for much of the last decade. According to other websites with more recent data, it gradually rose as he became VP. At least he is far closer to $250K than Romney and his plutocrat friends, who would consider him a pauper.

Except for the “like me” words, his comments were dead-on. I wish Obama would talk with as much fire.
