Commerce Secretary Bryson Charged in Hit and Run

Updated 10:44 am ET

Oops. Bumped into a couple of other cars over the weekend. Can’t leave the scene of an accident, even if you’re the Secretary of Commerce.

From the Los Angeles Times:

Bryson was driving a Lexus in the 400 block of South San Gabriel Boulevard shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday, when he allegedly rear-ended a Buick as it was waiting for a train to pass, according to a statement released by the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department and the San Gabriel Police Department.

After briefly stopping to talk to the three men inside the Buick, Bryson left the location in the Lexus and then struck the Buick a second time, authorities said. The men followed Bryson’s car and called 911 to ask for police assistance.

Bryson continued to drive his Lexus into Rosemead, which is patrolled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. There, he allegedly crashed into a second vehicle near the intersection of San Gabriel Boulevard and Hellman Avenue.

There authorities found him alone and unconscious behind the wheel of his car.

Well, looks like we’ll be having a new Secretary of Commerce. Anyway, there isn’t much commerce going on, so maybe we can skip it.

UPDATE: Commerce says Bryson suffered a seizure, according to Politico.

  1. obama knows what he needs to about commerce (just ask him) ….he hasn’t had a cabinet meeting since late Jan so obviously no need for a new secretary. After all, the private sector is doing fine.

  2. Or…Three suspects in a car, identified as a “buick”, backed into the Commerce Sec’s hybrid Lexus causing him to be disoriented. The Sec. tried to reason with the three suspects only to have them sideswipe his damaged fuel-efficient auto in a threatening manner. As the Sec. was attempting to flee his persistant attackers and find safety at the nearest PoliceCenter, his car was attacked with a gas-guzzling mini-van owned by suspected members of the TeaParty.
The LA County Sheriff’s department, in partnership with the DOJ, the FBI, the DEA and ICE, has issued a APB for the alleged attackers.
It’s not clear if the Sec was rendered unconcious by the vicious attack or if it’s his natural state of mind.
    Updates at 5pm.

      1. Yeah and he didn’t tip a few back in celebration of the event. Nothing wrong with that as long as you are responsible enough not to get behind the wheel of a car.

        1. Susan –
The ‘seizure’ is cover for his staggering & slurred speech. Why hasn’t the msm tracked down the 3 from the Buick? If this had happened to a GOPer their names, addresses, ssn’s, birth dates, blood types, shoe sizes, girlfriends/wives bra size, childrens’ grades, etc…would have been in the 6000 word front page column in the NYT.

  3. Apparently Bryson’s found that corn isn’t used just for making ethanol..there’s that whiskey thing, too! And when did Lexus start making electric vehicles?

      1. Thank you for your education on electric vehicles. So I understand, is the electrical charging plug right there near the gasoline tank full tube?

  4. Since alcohol and drugs don’t seem to be contributing factor, he may have been having a hypoglycemic episode.

This doesn’t mean that I agree with his background or politics. He is a another green nut, elitist.

    1. How do we know alcohol or drugs did not play a part in this? There’s no tox report, just the word of a law enforcement officer.

Sorry, but blind acceptance of authoritarian statements is a thing of the past here. Show me the screen.

      1. creeper. If you read the entire story as it appeared in the LA Times (no favorite of mine), instead of this excerpt, it stated that alcohol or drugs did not appear have played a part in the crashes.

Seem – to give the impression. That is not giving acceptance. It is commenting on the impression. If you knew the affects of hypoglycemia, you would understand that the behavior was more in line with that condition.

By Keith not including that part in the story, it has led to many to conclude he either was drunk or under the influence of drugs. I was pointing out another possibility.

  5. The algae king sure knows how to pick ’em. Police say no evidence of drugs or alcohol? The old moonbat is either off his rocker, or he is proof positive that liberalism is a mental disease.

    1. Now they’re saying he had a seizure but not until after he hit the 2nd car, which was the 3rd accident. It will be interesting to learn if drugs or alcohol really were involved, although preliminary reports said they weren’t. He was hospitalized overnight and flew back to DC the next day. Obviously, there is more of this story to unfold…

      1. A “seizure”. What the heck is that supposed to mean?
He had a brain freeze or blackout that caused him to wreck the first car, but not severe enough to prevent him from driving away, or too devastating to stop him from hitting a second car.

That’s some seizure, must be a new medical concern that we all can use in times of poor judgement.

  6. Seizure? Is that anything like sleep-walking, like the fellow in Connecticut who admitted that he robbed a woman at knifepoint at the Mohegan Sun Casino.

  7. Excuse me? He suffered a “seizure” that caused him to hit one car twice yet was able to drive off?

    I don’t think so.
