President Obama is doing Memorial Day right this year, with an appropriate schedule that may even keep him too busy for fun and games.
You may remember that last year Obama draped a wreath over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and then promptly went golfing.
The year before there was this:
But this year, the president will start the day with a breakfast for “Gold Star” families who have lost a loved one in battle. He then will travel to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where he will deliver remarks. And in the early afternoon, he will be at the Vietnam Memorial to mark the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Vietnam War.
Michelle will be with him at every stop.
And that is how the president and the first lady should spend Memorial Day.

Lizzy, you have reminded me of the incident at Ground Zero a couple of years ago (I think) when the Mooch was captured making some snarky comment about “all this for a flag,” or something to that effect. My cynicism can’t help me think that under her breath or rolling around in her self-centered mind she’ll be saying “all this for a bunch of dead people.”
Keith, when I first read this post, I thought that the only different item on his schedule was the Vietnam Memorial because I remembered that they had the Gold Star breakfast last year before laying the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. So, I Googled it and CNN’s article confirmed it.

Gee, if you didn’t know better, you would think that this is an election year plot to gain votes, but we all know how much, through the years, our dear leader has done to memorialize our fallen heroes. Heck, he is a hero! Haven’t you heard how he was the one that gunned down Bin Laden?

Yesterday we had a barbeque for the family and friends at our place for Memorial Day weekend. We adults were discussing sports, politics, and the reason for the gathering. Five of the children, all female, between the ages of 8 to 13 were in the spa enjoying the cool water on a hot day and singing songs. I heard some Lady Gaga and a few others I couldn’t recognize. When they started singing the Star Spangled Banner in unison it made us adults stop what we were doing and take notice. They were a little off key but they knew the words and they knew the importance of the song. They made this old lady cry a few tears of joy that there is hope for the future of America. God bless America and God bless all the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedoms.

I would like to think they’re doing this because it’s the right thing to do. But I just can’t muster up the feeling that they’ve all of a sudden become patriot. You know that old saying, “burn me once shame on you, burn me twice shame on me.”
As a veteran I am thrilled at all Obama has done all along to improve the VA and service for new veterans and military families & even finally include Vietnam Vets for Agent Orange Care and begin to address the homeless veteran issues that have been around since that era. Yeah, would say this is all political. Given that, given the cuts to the military in healthcare and retirement while not cutting civil mployees — yeah — political.
Given that O and MO are not acknowledging the rate of injuries and deaths of our military — yeah — political. Given his last trip to Afghanistan to sign a paper saying they would talk later — yeah — political. Given he will not heed the advice or direction of his generals but relies on his political staff — yeah — political. Given he waited 10 months to “get” Bin Laden until he needed the political boost — yeah — political.
So just off the cuff — I’d say it’s political.
Don’t forget his classification of Nidal Hasan’s crime as “workplace violence”. Nidal Hasan, the turncoat US Army officer turned Islamic terrorist, who jumped up on a table and shouted allah akbar as he opened fire on his fellow soldiers and federal civilian employees at Fort Hood, Texas on November 5, 2009. Then as we all watched the events unfold that day, wondering how something like this could happen in America, the fraud-in-chief started his world-televised speech on the tragedy by giving shout outs to some Indian chief in the audience. Yep agree – it’s political.
By the way, Nidal Hasan is still getting full military pay as he awaits trial in Texas. The trial has been postponed (again) until August 20th. I wouldn’t bet the house against him getting another delay before the election.

Not only that, it is taking an act of Congress to see that the military who died there are “allowed” to receive any medals for dying in the service of our country.
500K cut in military personnel in September, 2012. That is 500K being added to the unemployment rolls. I know someone who joined the Army right out of HS. He has been in the Army for 15 years. His aim was to make it his career. As of September, he will be unemployed. He got his pink slip.
The next President will have to rebuild up the military after the Obama cuts just like Pres. Bush had to rebuld the military after Clinton in order to answer to the attack on 9/11. Let’s just hope that we don’t have another 9/11.

Obama, you have disrespected the military for four years. Now, that it is an election year and your approval rate is about 30% among veterans, you start pandering for votes. Have a relative who served on a ship with females in command and in majority. The ship could not pass muster when at sea and the deployment was the worst ever served. The captain was removed from command because of inefficiency.
This is as sexist as it gets. Frankly the idea of that many women in a confined space is a scary thought and I am a woman.
