During oral arguments Tuesday, Solicitor General Donald Verilli Jr. became part of the problem the White House is having with the Supreme Court. He sounded at times like he just heard Sunday that the individual mandate challenge going to be heard before the Supreme Court.
The White House was forced to say that Verrilli did a wonderful job, which no one seems to agree with. “He ably and skillfully represented the United States before the Supreme Court yesterday, and we have every confidence that he will continue to do so,” said White House Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler in response to a query from Politico.
Below is the entire oral argument, but you need listent to only the first minute or two to get a sense of the disaster that was unfolding.
Here’s an outtake where Verrilli actually gets laughed at.
I can sure sympathize with the pressure Verrilli was under. But, you know, I imagine he realized that being solicitor general, he’d end up on the spot now and then.
I think they pulled straws to see who was going to defend the undefensible and he got the short one. His heart just wasn’t in it.
When did the progressive liberals ever have a heart?
The 7 signs someone is lying.
No eye contact.
Change in voice. A change in the pitch of a person’s tone, or a lot of stammering (umm, ah), or throat clearing could indicate a lie.
Unusual body language.
Something sounds fishy. Making statements that contradict each other, are inconsistent or don’t sound quite right are usually part of a lie.
Overly defensive.
Changes subject easily.
Humor or sarcasm. A guilty person will often try to change the subject using humor or sarcasm.
Extra credit section:
A long wooden nose.
Their lips are moving.
Running for office.
All politicians from Illinois.
I take the “FIFTH” (all MF Global Employees).
Hey wait a second Sadie, I use a lot of humor and sarcasm!
Then again, I am guilty.
As charged. Twelve of your peers would agree unanimously that you are beyond a reasonable doubt guilty of sarcasm, satire, and the remarkable ability to bring a smile to all who follow WHD.

I imagine defending this atrocity of a bill is a pretty tough row to hoe, even for the most dedicated believer in a living constitution.
That’s a pretty clever ad.
The “excuse me” goes over better in costume in a comedy club.

Bwhaaaaaa! Are you ‘S-ing’ me?

Yep, they continue to think we’re all stupid.
When did they start thinking?
The White House in the hoodie statement, “He ably and skillfully represented the United States before the Supreme Court”. We deserve better representation if when, our current Administrations low standards, are compared to what you’d expect from the greatest nation on God’s green Earth. To borrow a phrase from another Great American Patriot.
Personally, I really think using Legos to illustrate how it all works was a poor tactical choice
The Candyland part was sort of clever.
This case should be called “The People v. The United States”
(that’d be wonderfully Ironic)
From Wikipedia: The Peter Principle defined – The Peter Principle states that “in a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence”, meaning that employees tend to be promoted until they reach a position in which they cannot work competently. It was formulated by Dr. Laurence J. Peter and Raymond Hull in their 1969 book The Peter Principle, a humorous treatise, which also introduced the “salutary science of hierarchiology.”
The Obama administration has perfected the Peter Principle.
That was just painful to hear
He sounded like he was in Mock Trial
Nah, I’ve seen mock trials – the mock trials are much, much better!
take a look at the picture of the supreme court and notice the seating distance between the 3 females and their counterparts. wonder why?
This is the quality of people you get when you appoint political hacks to positions beyond their skill set. Verilli sounded nervous, apologetic and so far out of his comfort zone he was on the verge of an anxiety attack.
Sotomeyer was making better argument and those comments appeared to prompt him to have a moment of clarity. When read, it is actually hilarious how he follows her lead. Hopefully the Supreme Court won’t blow the call and follow what a majority of Americans demand – the end to Obamacare.
the best lawyer in America could not have defended that steaming pile of art
I still think someone knows now how this ends. All this tough questioning, then an upholding, or an overturn and a Ooops–you people are unruly, no election for you. Something!
Plus–that dude needs a makeover–at least lose the soup strainer.
It is truly a laughing matter, the the administrations’ chickens have come home to roost. Obama has compiled an incredible crew of incompetents, including his solicitor general. Now, he sends this buffoon into the lions den. A man, who if he had any more time to prepare would be ready for the nursing home, and he shows up in the SCOTUS sounding like a pre law student. This is what you get when you appoint people according to their ideology rather than their expertise. I am sure there is more to come.
