    A useless president delivering remarks to a useless, outdated organization…right up his alley. The UAW is a big reason the American auto companies failed and needed bailing out in the first place. If you don’t believe me, check out how Toyota, Nissan, BMW are doing here running non-union factories.

      Another reason why foreign automakers have chosen southerly locales involves organized labor–or the lack thereof. Jeff Bennett, an automotive marketing professor at Northwood University in Midland, Mich., points out that nonunion plants can pay one person to perform a task that would require two people in a unionized plant.

      The foreign automakers can also get a younger workforce, one that isn’t constantly generating retirees with generous benefits that they collect for decades (as is the case for the Big Three). On top of a younger, cheaper workforce, no foreign auto plant even had a U.S. base 30 years ago, let alone workers drawing retirement benefits for that long.

      Funny you should say that. Heard last week that GE is mandating the Chevy Volt for their employees who drive a company car. Doubt Jeffrey Immelt is driving around in one of the clown cars, but his employees are.

      I got this e-mail, too. It wasn’t enough that they let me know they were “taking names”, but they demanded to know why I haven’t donated. It was like getting a demand letter from a creditor.
