Carney Sends Afghans Our “Severe Apologies”

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney today offered “severe apologies” to Afghans for the burning of Korans by U.S. soldiers, suggesting kowtowing by the U.S. government to Afghanistan over the incident was necessary to avoid attacks on U.S. troops.

“One of the reasons that it’s appropriate to express our severe apologies for this incident is the kind of reaction that it could cause that risks putting our men and women in harms way, in further risk than they already are,” Carney said.

Carney made the statement as he confirmed to reporters flying with the President Obama aboard Air Force One to Miami that Obama had himself apologized in a letter to Afghan President Hamid Karzai for the incident.

Carney sought to minimize the move, saying the apology was only a brief portion of a three-page letter to Karzai focusing on a multitude of topics.

Carney also suggested that George W. Bush had done much the same thing after an American soldier shot a Koran up with bullets in Baghdad.

But then-White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said at the time Bush had only apologized to Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki “in the sense that he said that we take it very seriously.”

Carney said Afghans had “understandable sensitivities” about the issue and that the apology was therefore “wholly appropriate.” The Afghans expressed their understandable sensitivities today by killing two U.S. troops, rioting for the third day in a row, and burning Obama in effigy.

  1. It’s irrefutable that Obama was once a Muslim. I think you’d have to be a fool not to see that he still is.

Just watch who he defers to, the most. It ain’t the good guys.

Weird, but our President could be our greatest National security risk. Who vetted this dude?

    1. How ironic. Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, imprisoned in Iran since 2009, has just been condemned to death for doing exactly what Obama claims to have done…converting to Christianity.

  2. Catastrophic amputations rise in Afghanistan.

The five w’s of journalism: WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN AND WHY?

The rise in blast injuries coincided with a tactical shift in Afghanistan, which in recent years has taken troops out of heavily armored vehicles and put them on foot patrols. As part of the U.S. military’s counterinsurgency strategy, leaders wanted soldiers and Marines to get to know the villages and villagers in an attempt to gain better intelligence and reduce sympathy toward Taliban and al Qaeda fighters.

Six months after the blast in the mountains of southern Afghanistan, Pfc. Matthew Leyva rolls into the rehabilitation center at the Center for the Intrepid in a mechanized wheelchair.

His left arm is encased in a cylindrical cage, metal rods plunging into a forearm that is withered and discolored. He has just three fingers on each hand, empty spaces where the pinkies and ring fingers used to be.

His shorts spill over his lap, his legs gone except for a few inches of femur that jut out below his midsection. A colostomy bag is tucked under his shirt.

He is 21 and had been married less than a year when he stepped on the pressure plate. The blast took more than his legs: It left him unable to have children and dependent on testosterone treatments.

And the rest here, if you want to read it.

The tactical changes, the oops koran burning are not just single events. Zero wants the troops out of there and in the parlance of the 60’s “by any means necessary.”

  3. This person heard it was NATO not specifically Americans. Surely a three page letter from Pressintent (sic) Obama will soothe the wounds. Would love to read what was written by whom for him. I’m so glad that the Obama Administration is remembering Bush, who’s mistake in the war on Iraq was not destroying the entire country, with 24 hours notice of course… Pilgrims.

  4. I’d love to see the Afghans burn the Community Organizer along with his crew of sycophants in REALITY. Instead, we see Barry and his mighty men apologizing one more time for offending the precarious sensitivities of the Muslims; It’s war… shit happens! It’s comical how Barry is hated even when he says he’s sorry, he just can’t win, maybe because nobody respects a coward. If apologies are in order; Obama needs to apologize to the American people and Israel for the disrepect he has demonstrated for the citizenry of both nations; For the sham he has made of the high position he is unworthy to hold; For the chaos he’s created at every level of our society. Apologize to the Muslims on your own time President Appeasment.
I think we should bust up camp and leave these “Noble Afghans” to their own devices; come home and protect our borders before Little Barry sells America to the highest bidder; Start impeachment proceedings against Barry for abuse of power, aiding and abetting the enemy, and failure to uphold his Oath of Office; Get America up and running and back on her feet again after we’ve taken out the trash. What are we doing all involved with an Islamic nation at this late date?
Our men and women in uniform have done their duty and deserve to come home. They need to be proud of what they’ve accomplished in spite of a lack of vision and leadership. Our prayers go out to our servicemen and women trying to make sense of life in Obama’s military; What a travesty!

  5. didn’t our troops burn the Korans because terrorists were using them to transmit messages? why should we apologize for trying to keep our own people safe?

what is Obama’s problem? I’m seriously asking. is he completely tone-deaf, or does he really only see our enemies’ point of view?

  6. Yet no demand for apology was made for the murder of American troops. Oh, yes, acting president Jarrett doesn’t feel an American life is worth an apology.

  9. ever wonder how jayboy carney is able to look at himself in the mirror…..without throwing up?
is he married with children? if so, wonder how he can look them in the eye and not “burn with shame and embarrassment” for what he does for a living?

  11. Perhaps the leftists think World War II would have ended more quickly had Patton apologized to Hitler for killing some Nazis. The Muslims see apologies as a sign of weakness, which only encourages them to react more violently as they think they are winning the war against Western civilization – and they probably are. We need to stand firm and say, “No, you will not build a mosque at Ground Zero; no, you will not establish Shari’ah law in the United states; no, you will not be permitted to perform “honor killings” without being incarcerated for the rest of your lives; no, you will not be permitted to perform genital mutilations on your daughters simply because Mohammed thought it was a good idea,” etc.
