Obama Called Smaller Bush Debt Rise “Unpatriotic”

President Obama Thursday quietly notified Congress that the government needs another $1.2 trillion to continue operating.

That’s both irresponsible and unpatriotic of him.

How do I know? A presidential candidate named Obama told me.

The new borrowing requested by the CURRENT president would raise the debt ceiling to $16.4 trillion. The debt stood at $10.6 trillion when Obama took office. That’s an increase of $5.8 trillion, nearly $2 trillion more than the “unpatriotic” figure cited by Obama in the video.

Sure, a portion of the new debt is carryover from the Bush administration. But Obama can still be labeled utterly “irresponsible.” I’m not serious about the “unpatriotic” charge. I don’t call my president unpatriotic, though as you’ve noticed, some people will do that.

Obama has done nothing during his three years as president to address the central cause of the debt run up – the unsustainable increases in entitlement spending.

And he has actually worsened the deficit with a feckless $800 billion stimulus bill and a new $1 trillion health care entitlement.

So this is not the Bush deficit. It is the Obama deficit, and it’s threatening to ruin the country.

H/T to one of our readers, Mike Lester, for showing me this. Mike is one of the country’s great cartoonists. You can find his work at mikelester.com.

  1. When the hole you’re digging gets too deep….throw away the shovel!

I hope the Republican candidate turns Obama’s words against him. It may not be unpatriotic, but it is criminal!

    Fire him!!

    1. As usual Oblamo doesn’t have a clue to save our economy, more borrowing, more uncontrollable spending. The GOP needs to play this tape non-stop of Obama saying how unpatriotic Bush was to raise the debt ceiling. What a hypocrit. This Saul Alinsky communist is destroying our country “on purpose”.

      1. And yet back in the real world, Obama is the only President in the last 40 years to oversee an actual real dollar decrease in spending from year to year. Couple that with a nearly 3% reduction in government workforce…and it really seems like you folks have no idea what the words you are using mean.

        1. Well Mr. Wah, apparently you have no idea about what you are talking about. No offense intended. I remember last year that Apple had more money than the Federal Reserve did. Umm, what about the time when our debt was only 10.6 trillion dollars. Well I’m not going to tell you how much debt we are in now. I want you to go look at http://www.usdebtclock.org

Oh and P.S. our debt is over 15 trillion. Honestly, that doesnt seem like cost reduction to me. You can argue you have to spend money to make money, but with debt like this, this is devaluing our currency.

      1. Can’t wait to see the ad featuring the flea baggers aka OW with O’Blamer, Nazi Pelosi and Dirty Harry Reid voice overs saying how they support that scum.

  2. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. Dems are ok with whatever their guy does in office, but if a Republican does the same they get lambasted, with staged protesters and everything, all covered or not by the media depending on that week’s agenda.

Just another glistening example of being hypocritical to the max.

    1. Yes, the Republicans will let the Dems frame the request to make it look like if the Reps don’t approve it, they’re against the troops, granny and hungry children. Stupid politics, but the “average” and uninformed voter will lap it up.

It’s why the media is so important to hold the President’s feet to the fire, but they’ll roll over too :(

  3. I have to laugh, otherwise I would cry for my country, at this man. If more people had only listened, read and researched this man back in ’08, we would have realized what the road ahead was paved with. It’s not streets of gold, rainbows and unicorns, but instead we have streets barely paved, ominous clouds over head and horse meat being authorized for sale for human consumption.

Now he is going to ask the Congress for the power to consolidate federal agencies: http://apnews.myway.com/article/20120113/D9S82EOG1.html. Not that the elimination of multiple bureaucracies would be bad, it is just that I do not trust this man to do it in a way that will ensure the competitiveness and long term prosperity of this country. And what happens if Congress says “No”? Will he do it by presidential fiat? He and his WH have already said that he will do things by executive order if Congress tries to stop him.

This is going to be a very scary 10 months.

          1. Like it perhaps if several of us went together we could afford a communal Volt very sixties:). I drive a 21 year old Ford Escort
drives like a dream and doesn’t try to kill me!

    1. Just remember:

WE (as in “we the people”, not any one specific person) put that communist SOB and his commie mujadeen into office.

Folks, it’s WAAAAAAAY past time to stop bitchin’ about it.

These America-hating and lying SOBs, along with the media and the socialist/communist unions and Occupy groups, have been literally destroying our country and our societal beliefs and values for a very long time. The difference now is that Obama feels that it’s finally time to make the final push and ram the U.S. into a communist country, and he’s definitely doing it.

What I find unbelieveable is that if a foreign country invaded the U.S. and started to do the same thing to Americans and their country, there would be an incredible outpouring of rage and resistance against the invader. They would be our enemy, and treated as such.

Really, and I mean REALLY: what is the big difference here, other than internal “useful idiots” placed these people in power over us.

Isn’t the final result of what these scumbags are doing to our beloved country the same?

Think about it. REALLY thing about it….

    2. Public debt during Pelosi’s time as speaker went from
      $4,898,816,127,068.69 to
      $9,385,079,979,612.71.
Pelosi is responsible for increasing the public
      debt over 91.5%.

The Obama administration planned on having a $1.65 trillion deficit for 2011 (prediction made by OMB on Feb. 11, 2011). But thanks to Republican control, last years deficit was $1.15 trillion. That is a half trillion reduction in the deficit. You can find the numbers here: http://www.treasurydirect.gov/NP/BPDLogin?application=np

  4. Yep, he’s a hypocrite as we all know. His wild spending could have been stopped by the House if there was anybody in leadership with cojones, but there is not. Speaker Boehner can take credit for allowing another $1 trillion in spending in a matter of 10 months. That is really something you should cry about Mr. Boehner.

  5. …a hypocrite that will say anything to get elected said so. But then again, that covers most that suck the life blood of the country in Washington (unfortunately).

  6. The Prez and Congress agreed to reduce payments to SocialSecurity by those lucky enough to still have a job and that is forcing them to “borrow” money to keep the mandate to pay benefits to the “entitle-ees”. So, now calls are made to reduce entitlements, to financially punish those who paid into those funds all their working lives.

Where are the calls to reduce the Federal payroll, the wasteful spending for silly or patronage projects? The dust-up that produced a lot of sound and fury over the deficit and spending was nothing more than PR noise to satisfy the voters.

    1. You are absolutely right srdem. Bread and circuses for the masses. None of the leaders in either party have any intention of reducing the spending. They are more interested in who takes the blame for it.

  9. Ofcourse he said it was unpatriotic. That’s how he got elected, on EMPTY promises. Is anybody really surprised? Obama, I hope you and your administration are going to be repaying this trillion, because I can assure you, the population will not pay their taxes towards what they did not want in the first place.

  10. A politician will say anything to get your vote. What they will not do is tell the truth. In 2012 if it Romney v. Obama you might as well not vote.

We need to make a decision as a nation to stop encouraging these people.

  11. Bush ran up $5T of debt after he inherited a SURPLUS and an economy that was at FULL employment. Times were good up until the financial meltdown that his polices wrought. He made the huge deficits structural by passing a series of unaffordable tax cuts geared almost exclusively to the rich on promises that it would supercharge our economy. It didn’t. Oh, and the $800B that the Affordable Care Act “costs” is MORE than paid for and therefore REDUCES the deficit. That is unlike the $800B prescription drug benefit the Republicans passed in which NOT a SINGLE cent was paid for! I didn’t even mention the two wars that were fought “off budget” by Bush.

Another GIANT swing and a miss.

      1. Liar! The economic meltdown was due to the real estate (mortgage lending) downfall which was a direct result of the Clinton administration when they started the effort of forcing lenders to make the high risk loans.

          1. I am having the same argument over a RX I did last year and I
won. But now I and my Dr must do it all over again! Waste of time and $$$$$!

    1. Staggeringly ignorant analysis, “Truth Teller”. What you foolish liberals can’t seem to grasp is that a balanced budget or surplus does not mean no national debt which was to the tune of $5-6t at that time. It just means that for that brief period of time and largely do to the economy Clinton inherited from Reagan and subsequently began the process of trashing via the then highest tax increase in US history and accelerating the Jimmy Jackweek Carter’s ‘houses fo’ ‘ho’s’ progam, the country was merely spending less than it was taking in (granted thats a good thing but certainly had nothing to do with Slick). Did Bush spend too much, absolutely, but by playing the entitlement game foisted on the American people by vote buying liberal socialists. The financial meltdown was almost entirely attributable to Carter, Dodd, Frank, Obama, ‘insert random liberal name here’ forcing banks to lend to people that had no ability to pay back the loans but were smart enough to roll up equity and take the cash out so honest Americans can bail them out. So the banks sold the crappy loans to Wall Street bankers who bundled and bundled and rebundled a stack of crappy loans and sold them to the idiots that bought them. Obama has never created anything of worth, no product, no service, no employees, no anything making him king of leeches. Good riddance in November.

    2. You really need to stop reading the Huffington Post and watching MSNBC. Here what rational, thinking-minded people realize to be true:

      (1) Bush did NOT inherit a great economy; Clinton and the fed helped inflate a massive telecommunications/Internet bubble, which burst on Bush’s watch. Even still with this, and 9/11, Bush did not blame his predecessor, unlike Obama. Moreover, it was only BECAUSE of that bubble that Clinton had a balanced budget at the end of his administration thanks to unsustainable capital gains taxes- not because of some savvy action on this part.

      (2) the Affordable Care Act is NOT in any way a deficit reducer. You would not know this because you simply parrot what some other moron on intellectually dishonest ideologue tells you. This law was intentionally created to have revenue sources over a full period but ramps up the actual benefits and spending deep into the forecasted period. What we are left with therefore is a law that if forecasted beyond the CBO scoring period is clearly a massive, ugly, budget-busting nightmare. Moreover, for all of the “reforming” it does, it leaves several hundred million of needed physician pay cuts undealt with due to more Obama blame shifting.

Keep in mind, finally, that Obama had 2 YEARS where he had a majority in the House and Senate to deal with our fiscal situation; he could have easily dealt with it. But instead we got a massive HC entitlement. By any measure, this president has done (directly and via omission) more to harm our fiscal situation than any other in the history of the United States of America.

  12. Apples and Oranges.

Completely different set of circumstances, completely different reasoning as to why he was against it.

Remember back when runaway spending was A-OK when we had a Republican Congress and White House? Well, there were some people voicing concerns about it back then and warning we were spending ourselves into oblivion.

Only NOW that Obama is in office are ‘conservatives’ concerned about it. Pretty funny actually.

    1. “John”, you and “Truthteller”, make excellent points on how we got here. The difference is that we still had jobs, homes, and a belief that things would be better in the future when MrBush was in office. We weren’t fighting shadowy terrorists then, the MiddleEast was as stable as it could be, and Europe believed in the Euro.
We couldn’t build houses fast enough, produce enough durable goods to satisfy the demand and oil prices were managable.

It’s all different, now. Just like the newly unemployed, we have to portion our assets more wisely, reduce our spending and try to get out of debt or we will suffer a crushing bankruptcy.

Again, you’re right; all parties can share the blame and it is “apples and oranges” in comparison.

    2. If you actually believe that, you may want to check yourself into the nearest mental institution. Overspending is overspending any way you look at it. It isn’t apples and oranges, it is a president who has failed on most of his promises before coming president…

Were the repubs right? nope. Is Obama right? still a resounding nope. I chuckle at the fact that you think his spending is OK but the repubs was not. moron.

    3. Nope, wrong. We pre-TeaPartiers were screaming bloody murder about the rising govt costs/deficit/debt, even when it was “just” 170 billion/year in 2005 before the Dems took over Congress, then more when it went to 500 billion/year with Bush finally finding his veto pen, and of course we are roaring now at 1.7 trillion, more than triple, the 2008 levels.

I will be grateful if we can just go back to 2008 level spending!

  13. Obama’s Osawatomie Kansas Speech on December 7, 2011 primarily advocated the redistribution of wealth. Redistribution of wealth is the basis of Communism and Socialism.

Charles Krauthammer, MD is an American Pulitzer Prize–winning syndicated political commentator, and physician. His weekly column appears in The Washington Post and is syndicated to more than 275 newspapers and media outlets. He is a contributing editor to the Weekly Standard and The New Republic. He is also a weekly panelist on the PBS news program Inside Washington and a nightly panelist on Fox News.

Dr. Krauthammer is probably the most respected and intelligent of all the political pundits on television. He said this article was an insult to Teddy Roosevelt, and it would be more appropriate to compare Obama to Hugo Chavez.

Do you remember when Obama said he wanted a “national security force”? Not the national guard, but a civilian one that has not sworn to uphold the Constitution? On July 2, 2008 in a speech in Colorado Springs, Barrack Obama called for a police state.
Here it is in his own words:

    http://www.infowars.com/obama-just-got-his-private-army/

Why would he need his own private army? If he gets a second term, will he have his own army.. Why do they feel that they need to monitor our posts on this website? When will they knock on our door?

Did you ever see video of the officers of the Third Reich swearing allegiance to Adolph Hitler in 1934.. The oath pledged personal loyalty to the person of Adolf Hitler in place of loyalty to the constitution. Sound familiar?

This election is going to be a choice between Communism and Freedom. PLEASE get out and vote regardless of who the GOP nominee is. Turnout is the only thing that is going to prevent this from becoming bankrupt Communist State within the next five years, As Ann Coulter said, Jeffery Dahmer would be better than what we have. This is going to be the most important election in the history of this United States, and it is going to be so close, that turnout will determine if we remain a democracy, or become a Communist state.

“Communism is a philosophy of failure,
The creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy
Its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”
    Winston Churchill

  14. No one is really serious especially Obama and the Dims.

The headlines come through and say ..military cuts $1 trillion. That is impressive. No? It is a cut spread out over 10 years or $100 billion a year, whereas the national debt is increasing by $100 billion a month.

Then the USDA announces they are closing about 150 field offices and saving $150 million and they have a budget of $145 billion. Bid deal!

I am going to take a look at my budget and see if I can cut spending by a dime next month.

    1. Yup, drives me crazy. They say “cut a trillion”, but it is really 100 bill per year ( if it really happens..since it is all just “planned” and can be reversed by congress each year).

I want real cuts, THIS YEAR, not this baloney they keep trying to feed us.

  15. The hypocrisy of Obumbler knows no end.
He told on video if he could not fix the economy in three years he would be a one term president.
Time to hold him to his word and make sure he is sent back to Chicago.

  16. Let’s see not wanting to shake hands or take anymore pictures with soldiers in
a war zone or still blaming a man who’s been out of office nearly four years?
I know what I think is unpatriotic and it does not include a mention of money!

  17. The only thing more truly pathetic than this is you just know the Republican candidate, if he is part of the elite guard like Mittens, will never run this clip in an add against Obama. It would be too meanspirited.

  18. BELIEVE IT OR NOT…

Unemployment claims up this week–duh–Christmas help. We called that one. (AssPress story so unemployment mention was in the subhead, naturally.)

NYT actually asks if it sees a lie on EITHER side, should it call it? This used to be journalism’s role. Not anymore, I guess.

    1. How do you think Obama keeps his base ? He uses federal assistance programs like his personal piggy bank. Unfortunately his base will vote for him to keep his free money.

  20. Mr. Keith Koffler,

Do you call your president un patriotic when he signs a law into power that gives him the power to detain American citizens indefinitely for committing a “belligerent act”? I.e. NDAA section 1031 and 1032 signed into law on new years eve while noone was looking. This web site, in the upper left hand corner says that you “hold the white house to account”. Well why don’t you hold them to account for signing a law that nullifies the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, AND 8th amendments to our constitution by allowing for indefinite detention for any American citizen? Or are you in on the media black out mr veteran white house reporter? The citizens are waking up and those responsible for this will be held to account.

    1. OYE – Actually NDAA has been discussed on this site. I don’t remember if Keith actually mentioned it, but I do know that several of us have and have excoriated this President and Congress for passing the act. While Keith is the keeper and moderator (sometimes referee) of this blog, it has also become a news aggregate source due to a very adroit and aware readership.

When issues are found, many will post links, opine thoughts, and sometimes just spout off on the inane behaviour of our DC denizens. It is not Keith’s sole purpose to find every dot and tittle of stupidity that our government or this WH engage in. It is the responsibility of all Americans to educate themselves as to what is going on.

Do not fault Keith if he did not report on this or that issue, it is OUR responsibility to educate ourselves. Keith offers us a guide and forum by which to learn and educate each other.

Oh, and by the way, you are 150% correct on your assessment of the NDAA. It will take a court challenge to strike down this law, and I for one hope it will be soon. I am more than willing to have DHS or the military show up and arrest me for saying unflattering words about the President. I may not have money to fight it in the courts, but I would bet that there are tens of thousands of Americans who would support me in my defense.

  21. and lets’s not forget Obama as senator voted FOR the Bush spending.
Funny how nobody ever points out that under bush spending did not get real bad until demcorats took control of congress.
Then for the two years prior to that congress was evenly split so nothing got passed that democrats did not approve.
Obama on the other had hand had complete control of congress by democrats until they just recently lost the house. They still control congress.

So once again this just shows how two faced democrats really are.

  22. Now the BS’er in Chief wants to consolidate power over various governmental agencies, and restructure and ‘shrink’ the size of Federal Governement … translation: consolidate his power and appoint power structures that are under ‘his’ control.

This President has proved to be such a miserable liar and failure, that Congress should not give him any more latitude. Congress must reject his attempts to work on the internal structure of government agencies and consolidate more power.

Obama is like a bull in a china shop … destroyer.

Do not let him consolidate any more power.

  23. This President is the biggest liar in the history of the presidency. His hope and change have changed for the worse and hopelessness for many. His goal is to be re-elected, nothing else! If he wins we will be in a fight for our lives. He must be stopped. Republicans, Independants and smart thinking Democrats must unite to stop this socialist from totaly ruining this country.

  24. In his own words, our President Barack Obama’s quote: “The fact that we’re here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. Leadership means ‘The buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.”

  25. I always said that to be a democrat the first thing you need to be is a hypocrite. The media beat Bush savagely (and rightly so) about his debt but are strangely silent over the Obama debt. With his $1.2 trillion increase in the debt limit to a $16.4 trillion that brings every person in this country’s share of the debt to $54,000. We don’t have it.

Think about this – if you seized all of the money from the top richest 50 Americans you would get $732 billion – you would still need to increase the debt limit by $500 billion just to cover the bloated spending. So do you really believe that taxing the rich will fix the problem? Looks like we need to stop the spending instead.

  26. But it’s “okay” when obama does it — because “he” did it himself — and with him, it’s the “intentions” that count……….

  27. Oh God he’s talking again just said fundamentally change …etc the Government. We all know that does not bode well for us. Must go to my pills
surely I have one for that fool:-(

  28. Well Mr. Koffler, I’ll do it for you.

Barack Hussien Obama is not a Patriot. No US President would run our debt this high, push entitlements to the limits to pay off his minority voter base, take $Million Dollar vacations to Hawaii, plays more Golf than Tiger Woods, uses every US Agency to punish the American People, Obama hates the Energy Industires, so he stopped the XL Pipeline killing American jobs, won’t issue drilling permits costing more jobs and making us even more dependent on Middle Eastern Oil, uses the EPA to declare war on the Coal and Natural Gas Industry, waging a war on the Salmon industry the fishing industry and the boating industry, used ICE, DEA , DHS and DOJ to run guns into Mexico got our own Border Officers killed and then tried to blame Americans for it so he can abolish the 2nd Admendment and then lied about it, killed Osama only to boost his poll numbers, used his Green energy policies to funnel money back into his campaign coffers, abusing the recess powers to put his own cronies in power, appointing over 60 Czars, bypassing Congress and the Senate with over-reaching executive orders like backdoor Amnesty, using the DHS to spy on Conservative Websites, he has thrown Israel under the bus and stood beside the Muslims, he has also used executive order to stand beside the Illegal Mexicans and spit in the face of Legal Americans, has secret expensive elaborate parties in the White House and the Media covers up for him, the only jobs he has created were Gov’t jobs, lied about his shovel ready jobs, lied about the Chevy Volt, lied about Solyndra, used the DOJ to sue Continental Oil for the death of 28 migratory birds while the Gov’t subsidized Green Wind Turbine Indutry kills Hundreds of Thousands of birds per year, the 1st President to get our Credit Rating downgraded, gave Brazil $Billions to do exploratory Oil drilling, had his cronies in the Labor Board unlawfully sue Boeing for running a plant in a Non-Union State, created jobs in Finland with Gov’t Loans, has mandated 10% ethanol in our gasoline without any scientific studies on the effects to our engines, used legislation to mandate the 10% ethanol and then used insider-trading to buy shares in the ethanol companies and the corn futures market, has bypassed Congress and sent American Troops into Southern Sudan and Africa to start his own lil private war, hamstrung American Troops in the Middle East where they can’t fire until they are fired upon, wanted to try Islamic Terror Savages in a Civil Court, and I could go on and on and on, but the worst thing this motherless son did was use legislative trickery in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve to shove ObamaCare down our throats.

How in the hell can anyone call him a Patriot ?
    ,

  29. Obama is a hypocrite, plain and simple. Zero leadership, completely irresponsible and considering his ideologies, he probably doesn’t even care about the prosperity of this country, just bent on spending as much as possible before being kicked out of office.

  30. The first 15 mos. jamming Nobamacare down our throats followed by FINREG. No job attention nor addressing the deficit. The Blamer and Chief needs to stay in Chicago and soon.

  31. LOL!!! And now you see how he will say and do anything…as it suits him! He should be ashamed…attacking Bush on the campaign trail for be “irresponsible” about spending and then saying with a straight face he doing the right thing by the country by driving us further into debt! I truly hope that this clip is played over and over and over and over (at least until everyone finally get it through their thick heads) that borrowing is bad! We have not seen the bottom or the worst of this depression/recession/debacle yet.

  32. “Obama Debt Balloons During Obama Depression”

There will be an admission next year, after Obama decides not to seek the Democrat nomination, that the economy was not in recovery but mired instead in the Obama Depression.

    You heard it here first…

  33. Money spent by Bush…Money spent by Obama……sorry Obama you are the biggest spender in American history combining all presidents Obama has out spent all of them……..besides that Obama is the biggest liar in American history. So……….glad when this sob is out of our White House.
