As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

Obama Fundraising Gridlocks Los Angeles

He’s hitting two fundraisers. The only “official” event in L.A. is his taped appearance tomorrow morning on the Jay Leno Show.

From the Los Angeles Times:

A portion of Wilshire Boulevard and adjacent 6th Street were closed Monday afternoon in the Hancock Park area because of a fundraising visit by President Obama.

The closures of the major east-west thoroughfares helped snarl rush-hour traffic and affected public transportation in the area. The closures were roughly from South Muirfield Drive to South Hudson Avenue, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said that bus lines 20 and 720 on Wilshire Boulevard and lines 28 and 728 on Olympic Boulevard would detour along Beverly Boulevard between Western Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard.

The closures would remain in effect to around midnight, LAPD Officer Gregory Baek said.

The closures sparked a flurry of Twitter messages from unhappy motorists and others caught up in the traffic.

From the pool report at one of the fundraisers, well away from the traffic mess, I assume.

The President appeared at an intimate fund-raising dinner at the home of James and Mai Lassiter in LA’s Hancock Park area. He spoke softly to guests sitting at four tables, 8-10 seats per table. Tickets cost $35,800 per person.

Actor Will Smith, looking dapper in a three piece suit, stood near the back of the room and watched. Boston Celtics nemesis Magic Johnson sat at a table to the president’s right.

Pool is holding contentedly near the Lassiter’s lighted backyard pool, enjoying a cool LA breeze and snacking on individual-size pizzas.

Thank you evil rich people!

  1. A friend tells me that a 3 square miles of downtown LasVegas was closed to traffic to allow MrO to pass though the Strip yesterday. McCarren airport was closed for 3 hours to allow AF1 safe access.

  2. Did they at least give you homemade pizzas, Keith or were they frozen? That is terrible. The least they could do is feed you something good.

  3. Like LA doesn’t have enough traffic and transportation problems! Just what we need, for Obama to tie up the busiest street in the city! During rush hour yet! Is there no end to his hubris? Kind of makes me glad I have no job to come home from in that mess of a traffic jam. Well, not really!

  4. I just heard Michelle is coming to Detroit today. We just had Obama here less than two weeks ago. Think he’s worried about Michigan?

It’s a fundraiser, of course.I don’t know who here has money to give him.

    • Yep, sounds like he might be a little worried about Michigan. Such gall these people have — they don’t even pretend to perform official duties on their campaign trips now.

    • Thank you! I had that same question. He’s not even trying to pretend there’s any official business because nobody has called him on his behavior.

    • That little gem slipped right by me William. Looks like all of his TV appearances are now defined as ‘official business’. Guess it all depends on what the definition of the word ‘is’ is…
