In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Obama Launches Cultural Warfare

Wanted to let you know that I’ve penned a piece that’s running today in POLITICO, “Obama Launches Cultural Warfare.”

It’s about how the class warfare Obama has been waging is only part of a larger cultural war the president is in fact conducting against Republicans.

This president, it is increasingly apparent, is willing to rip the country apart for his own reelection purposes.

Here are a couple of paragraphs from the piece to give you the idea.

Having failed to lower the unemployment rate to a politically tolerable level, Obama cannot run as most presidential candidates do — on the economy. So he and his advisers seem to have decided instead to mount a deeply polarizing campaign based on “values” — suggesting his vision for America is correct even if the economy is not right yet.

But in waging this battle, Obama is saying nasty and dangerous things. He is promoting his own principles — not just by touting their goodness, but by suggesting that Republicans hold to an offensive, even un-American, philosophy.

I hope you get a chance to take a look. Let me know what you think.

  1. Things are bad when the President is sowing seeds of discontent and class
and racial divide just to get elected. I doubt this is a first and a new low. But as the old saying goes be careful what you wish for. It breaks my heart to see our country being torn apart on purpose for political gain. These in
the streets now have still not made a coherent reason for what they want. No more rich people where do they expect to get jobs? How can they get an Ivy League education without those alumi donations? History would tell
them without those dreaded rich people there would have been no industrial
revolution and the jobs and companies and inventions that came with it like
light bulbs, cars and assembly lines. I don’t think they teach history any longer at least real history.

    1. Amen Lizzy, these misfit protesters are walking neck deep in their own
hypocrisy ! They eat in restaurants owned by “rich people” they consume drugs, alcohol, smoke cigs, drive cars, wear clothes,( some even use laundry detergent)… all provided by “rich people”… when are we in this country going to talk education reform in this country?
this intolerant marxist/socialist indoctrination of our young people has got to stop!!!

  2. Congrats on the wide distro!
I agree with your conclusion. But, I have one question: How can they possibly think this is going to work? It may energize his base, but, the majority will reject this and see it for what it is; Obama’s desperate attempt to keep his job. I’m hoping that this strategy will only increase the margin of his defeat!

  3. Keith, that is a great article. Once again a well written piece.

I am currently reading “Roots of Obama’s Rage” by D’Souza and what is stricking is that we are seeing Obama’s anti-colonialism in action. We often discuss in this blog that Barry is a profound follower of Sal Alynski (Rules for Radicals) but what is missing is that discussion is why was Barry drawn to Alynski in the first place.

Barry is all about obtaining more and more power so that he can take control of the foundation of America. Remember that he wants to “transform America”? These words and actions of his are all apart of that thinking that he has that colonial America is and has been bad, so he must transform it into something new.

He looks at people as being for him or against him and he does not have any need for those that offer a different voice than his. He sees his opposition as a threat and he thinks that like colonial America, they should be diminished.

Again, the piece is well written and is what is taking place.

  4. Youszers! your excellent opinion piece has hit some sensitive nerve endings with the Obama supporters.

These aggressive attacks by the Obama supporters and those who are pushing America into a leftist/socialist nation are only driving the conservatives underground and into a deliberate silence. They’re not changing anyone’s opinions or concerns about the future of our country but rather the have solidified the mission to restore our country to what it once was.
The accusations of un-Americanism are a sign of a political movement in deep trouble. When the FirstLady asks “who are we”, she should understand that we believe in individual freedoms, freedom of religion, and independent thinking.
Charges of racism as the reason for the opposition to MrO’s second term have lost their sting, and are no more than an attempt at coercing the electorate into re-electing a proven failure to head our government.

  5. Excellent article Keith, however I would suggest you batten down the hatches since it seems to have created a bit of a storm on Politico. Apparently the left only approves of freedom of speech if you agree with their delusional thinking.

  6. With what is going on now I cannot imagine what Obama will stoop to a year from now when he is staring at a defeat that will rival Jimmy Carter’s. Outright violence will almost certainly be the next phase of the attack on our country which could give Obama a “crisis” sufficient enough to declare martial law, suspend elections and shut down the internet.

  7. Insightful article. Combining it with Victor Davis Hansen’s article in RCP today, makes for a seriously scary situation. These issues shouldn’t just be in opinion pieces, they require hard news reporting.

  8. Excellent article Keith. You sure did hit some liberal nerves out there. One comment even suggested Politico shouldn’t allow you to publish an article because of your opinion. That one comment tells the whole story. The 0WS crowd are screaming about their ‘right’ to protest, to say or do anything they want to anyone they want. Let a conservative try to express their opinion and the attacks start flying.

I was really disappointed in Eric Cantor’s Fox interview yesterday. He walked back his criticism of the 0WS crowd, and then joined right in with the class warfare rhetoric that Republicans agree there is “too much income disparity”. If he is the voice of the Republican leadership, we need a new coaching staff because Boehner and the ‘young guns’ don’t have what it takes to win the game.

    1. I know Susan. Is there no conservative out there with a consistent philosophy, who thinks things through before saying them, and who doesn’t back away at the sign of a problem?

People accused Reagan of not being particularly smart. Actually, he was thoroughly well read, understood the grounding of his basic principles, and had the backbone to carry through?

Would any of the leading Republicans have fired the air traffic controllers? I doubt it.

    2. Susan,
Very well said. I thought maybe I was the only one who thought Cantor’s appearance was a limp wristed, weak performance, and not at all representative of what we need to get rid of Obama’s socialist bent. Quite frankly, I am sick of Cantor AND Boener and their and their “compromise” pandering to the left, and with their lousy, weak leadership, we may just lose in 2012. Time for a new “A” team for sure.

  9. Nicely written, Keith. Something tells me you won’t be the belle of the ball in the White House Press room anytime soon.

But then again, had your peers in that room and the rest of America’s media vetted this man honestly and with indifference, we wouldn’t be where we are now. Instead, we wait to see just how far Mr. Obama is ready to go in his re-election campaign, in order to completely vilify his own words from the first speech that put this Community Organizer on the map.

    Boston,Mass. July 27, 2004:
“Now even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us — the spin masters, the negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of “anything goes.” Well, I say to them tonight, there is not a liberal America and a conservative America — there is the United States of America. There is not a Black America and a White America and Latino America and Asian America — there’s the United States of America.”

Without the swooning professional media orgasm of 2008, he’d be sitting at his desk in the Senate Talk Palace where he belongs, doing what he does best, and the only thing he’s ever been capable of doing; another inconsequential senate windbag, speechifying his way through the afternoon.

Instead of President of the United States and the leader of the free world.

Whad’ya say next time a presidential candidate answers questions on national television from a “media professional” about his background with the answer, “Bill Ayers? uh, yeah well, he’s just a guy who lives on my street” ..Whad’ya say we probe that one, just a touch,eh?

  10. Keith,

I don’t think Obama is saying that Republicans are un-American.
Not in the “founding fathers” traditional, or “turn-of-the-century” traditional.
He is saying that according to HIS notion of being American, Republicans (and anyone else that doesn’t agree with him) are being un-American.

So anyone that criticizes his opinion of what America is, is then unAmerican.

He can support the protesters any way he wants but it will back fire for 2 reasons…
1- These protesters are off the wall, and the normal person sees that.
2- These protesters generally don’t vote. Hence the whole ‘anarchy’ thought process.

  11. Well done Keith….Long time reader, first time commenter, but felt compelled after reading the comments left at Politico. To answer the person here who asked “How can they possibly think this is going to work?” Just take a look at that feedback. Nevermind that they’ve missed the point entirely: politicians can be expected to be devisive, but a president is expected to lead. This president lead because he has no convictions of principle other than self-whatever. Empty suit. Scary combo.

  12. Read your article on Politico and liked it. You really didn’t paint Obama the color he really represents, which is red for his Marxist leanings. The CPUSA the Nazi’s and the rest of the trash that is trying to destroy our country are his supporters. The garbage he spewed at that MLK ceremony yesterday was sickening, pure political dribble.

  13. Obama is pure evil. If you check his daily polls on Rasmusson Reports, the only saving grace is that the more he speaks, the lower his approval goes. This rhetoric will be completely wiped out if Cain is elected as the Republican choice. How can they possibly bring race into it then? Obama is tearing our country completely apart.

    1. That’s not cultural warfare. That my friend is the truth. You just can’t stand the truth. Maybe you would have to admit you were wrong about Obama and his intentions. Surely you can’t be in favor of the government running your life? Telling you when and where to work and for how much, what and how much to eat, and teaching your children how to hate their country as founded.

Hillary’s people started the fake birth certificate meme back in 2008, so don’t go trying to blame conservatives for starting that conspiracy theory. There seems to be a valid question over the authenticity of his birth certificate and he has spent millions to hide his past records, so yeah I have my doubts. There is certainly a debate on what religion he actually is, because he isn’t a Christian in the traditional sense. He attended Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s Marxist or Black Liberation Theology church for 20 years. Heck yes he’s a Marxist.

      1. MT for re-redistribution

It’s not cultural warfare to rhetorically ask whether or not you want an ineligible muslim marxist to lead the free world, but it is cultural warfare to encourage unemploy -ed -able morons to aimlessly revolt against the ill-defined “rich”.

      2. 1) It’s not the truth that Obama is Kenyan.
        2) It’s not the truth that Obama is a Muslim (you don’t even try to defend that one)
        3) It’s not the truth that Obama is a Marxist
        4) It is the truth that many Republicans would rather have the economy crash than have Obama succeed. Remember Rush Limbaugh? “I hope he fails”.

Hypocrisy, thy name is Keith Koffler

        1. 1) his father was Kenyan, so he’s part Kenyan. it’s interesting to me that you find saying that fact to be racist. maybe YOU’RE the one who should look into his racial beliefs.
          2) if he says he’s a Christian then he’s entitled to that. however, if we’re judging by actions, we have never had such a pro-Muslim and pro-Palestinian president as we do now–not even that old anti-Semite peanut farmer.
          3) I’d call him a socialist, but Marxist works too. you did read his two autobiographies, didn’t you? he doesn’t exactly hide from his political views.
          4) you silly libs! that’s not what Rush meant. Rush believes–and I agree–that if Obama succeeds he will destroy our country. therefore, if Obama fails our country will be saved. of course nobody wants the economy to crash…but that’s a convenient straw man for koolaiders like yourself.

btw, do you know what “hypocrisy” means? b/c there isn’t any in this article.

          1. MichiganTruth: U sure did speak truth that I understand, and I hope everybody agrees w/u! Let’s get Michelle & her “let’s Move Campaign” a real boast. Have O & his 1stLady, out of the WH asap. I’ll B happy 2 have her move:).
In terms of Obama’s Christianity, his church in Chicago was run by a rabid maniac named Jeramiah Wright! He is a close friend & ally of Black Muslim Leader, Louis Farakhan. Rev. Wright & the big F traveled all over Middle East together, in defiance of the State Dept; sucking up to their fave dictators like Khadafy et al. I am a reform Jew, and admit I am no scholar on Christianity, but what legitimite Protestant/Catholic clergy would accept this so-called “Protestant” minister as a legitimate minister for Christ? Obama’s “Church” in Chicago appears to be nothing but a faux Mosque for closeted Black Msuslims. Obama & wife hung out at this awful lair of hatred, 20 yrs and we paid no mind. The Obamas were active members here, they were married & their children baptized here. Can U imagine what those cute little girls were taught at Rev. Jeramiah Wright’s Sunday School? They were taught to hate America,Jews, &Whites.. .and we voted Obama, a follower of Wright, in as our President. How naive we were. We must get this point about Obama’s background upfront where it belongs.

  14. Great article Keith. He has played class warfare and race warfare since he took office. After he was elected, I was stupid enough to hope, even though I didn’t vote for him, that maybe he could actually complete the healing of the race relations between the white and black people of this country. He has set them back 30 to 40 years. Not only that, he has increased the rancor of the “have nots” toward the “haves” and vilified the successful businessmen, many of whom put him in office. The cultural warfare is just another weapon for him to use and he will do anything to win the next election so he can continue on his path to destroy this country.

  15. Dennis Prager just quoted from this article.

He pointed out this quote from Obama that you highlighted, “I still believe in that America. I believe we can be that America again.” I think you used it in another article from an Obama press conference. This is why Prager is one of the top talk show hosts, it disturbed him too.

  16. In the recent past, presidents have sometimes blurred the truth in varying degrees in favor of their goals, but President Obama totally disregards the truth to promote his goals. In fact, it appears, that his whole strategy (whether for a re-election win, or for his socialistic ideas, I’m not sure) is a fabrication to deceive the majority of people to arrive at his ends. And the old mainstream media is continuing the scam. This is alarming if the people don’t discern his deception. Obama is promoting division for sure. Thanks for alerting us.

  17. Keith,
I feel simple for asking, but would this be feasible? Who would push for such?

Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the
best quotes about the debt ceiling:

“I could end the deficit in 5 minutes,” he told CNBC. “You just
pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP,
all sitting members of Congress are ineligible
    for re-election.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds)
took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple!

The people demanded it. That was in 1971 – before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year
or less to become the law of the land – all because of public pressure.

Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to
a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask
each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will
have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed

    _*Congressional Reform Act of 2011*_

    1. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no
pay when they’re out of office.

    2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the
Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into
the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the
American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

    3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all
    Americans do.

    4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

    5. Congress loses their current health care system and
participates in the same health care system as the American people.

    6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the
    American people.

    7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void
effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this
    contract with Congressmen/women.

Congressmen/women made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in
Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers
envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their
term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will
only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive
the message. Don’t you think it’s time?
