In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

UPDATE #2: Running the Carney briefing here too, with education aides leading it off.

UPDATE #1: Delayed until 1:30 pm ET. Anybody surprised?

      1. Yep, we are told the US government needs to tax more and spend more. If that is what continues to be the agenda of Obama and his Demo supporters in Congress we can kiss our US dollars value good-bye. But that is, in fact, their intention. You know: tax the rich, feed the poor til there are no rich no more.
November 2012 cannot come soon enough.

  1. Watching True Blood, if I’m gonna get my blood sucked dry at least I’ll have some shirtless hard bodies to watch while it happens.

Y’all let me know how this goes!

    1. I find myself going back to the 30-50’s movies on TMC whenever he shows his face. Love those old movies. Brings me back to a time when it was cool to be patriotic and love your country.

  2. “Now let me be clear….As I said before….We are working tirelessly….with laser like focus on job creation…this will not be easy but will take a balanced approach…everyone will have to sacifice (except my family) ..blah, blah, blah, blah, blahhh

  3. I’ll bet a bag of ramen noodles that he blames everyone but himself but still manages to say the words “I” or “me” over 15 times.

  4. “Everything is George W. Bush’s and the Tea Party’s fault, blah, blah, blah. . .”

I don’t need to watch, since I all ready know what he’ll say.

  5. “I know we’re going through a tough time right now and I intend to think a lot about this problem of Tsunami’s, high oil prices, and our troops commitment to our country next week, while I’ll be sharing in the sacrifice from Martha’s Vineyard.”

  6. DId I hear correctly that he blamed the threat of default as part of the reason for the downgrade, and wasn’t it Obama that went on TV and threatened default if a deal wasn’t reached?

    1. Yes, he did. Every Dem who could stand in front of a camera said so too. Every Repub said it wouldn’t happen, we have enough income to pay our interest debt.
but….why start with the truth, now.

  7. Hmm: having Education immediately following the o leaads me to believe the WH is even more fragile than I thought. Also it necessarily diminishes the o’s speech.

  8. Obama’s horrifyingly bad speech:

    By Jennifer Rubin
He was a half hour late. His head turned from side to side as if he were attending a tennis match. He practically never looked in the camera, as if he were averting our gaze. And those were the strong parts of President Obama’s disastrous speech.

It was a bit like a slow-motion car crash. After a while, one stopped listening to the blather and simply watched the stock ticker go down and down. And down some more.

Obama had all weekend and the best he could come up with was a reiteration of his plea for a “balanced” approach to deficit control. That’s right. We have a tumbling stock market, over 9 percent unemployment and a flight to gold (some investment advisers say it will be at $2,500 per ounce by year’s end). All he can do is promise to raise taxes.

Now that’s not exactly right. He did trot our proposals for a one-year extension of the payroll tax cut and extension of unemployment benefits. And he promised to make his own proposal to the debt committee. That’s it. It is what he has been saying for what seems like forever. He has nothing new.

He did say one indisputably true thing: The downgrade was more a comment on our political dysfunction than on our ability to repay our debts. That is the dysfunction that he has presided over. That is the paralysis he perpetuated by insisting for months on tax increases. He was describing his own disastrous tenure as president.

This illuminated Obama’s predicament — devoid of ideas, bitter about political opposition and completely in over his head. If the election were held today, I bet he’d lose. By a lot.

  9. Why waste time just put that same ‘speech’ on tape so he won’t even have to waste our time. Same s–t different day. Lectures and blames everyone
Bush, TeaParty which all his little minions repeat so often it is now eligible to
become a drinking game. He can lecture when Michelle stops wearing
clothes, shoes and jewelry that could feed a state! He was in a hurry to get
serious about the big parties with the NYC elite. Off on PARTY ONE!

  10. The President of the United States got on TV today and he rambled, he stuttered, he was *lost in space*, he made NO sense in his speech and he offered no words of confidence, and he was READING from the teleprompter, and he was still less than confident in his speech.

Obama talked for several minutes and he blamed this money crisis on anything and everyone he could think of; the TEA Party, the GOP, Conservatives, the tsunami in Japan, the earthquakes in Japan, the recession that he came into in 2009 when he assumed office, read that as BLAME BUSH.

Obama blamed the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and in that I can agree with him, we need to be GONE in both places.

The only group that didn’t get blamed was Obama himself and his administration…imagine that!
