What kind of way is this to talk about the leaders of Congress?
I want them here at 11 a.m. tomorrow . . . and they are going to have to explain to me how it is that we are going to avoid default . . . They will come down here at 11 oclock tomorrow. I expect them to have answers.
Even if you’re angry, Mr. President, as you were when you appeared in the briefing room last night to announce the deficit talks had fallen apart, this is not how you speak about the other branch of government.
Now, I can talk about Congress however I want. I’m employing them. And they often suck.
But we have co-equal branches of government in this country. So it’s frankly of great concern when one branch talks about the other as if it’s his house help.
Now I understand what you’re doing. You’re trying to portray yourself as the adult who is beset by all these schoolchildren. You’re employing a political strategy of suggesting you’re above politics, a political posture that says you’re not posturing politically
And the American people I think are fed up with political posturing and an inability for politicians to take responsible action as opposed to dodge their responsibilities . . . I mean, the American people are just desperate for folks who are willing to put aside politics just for a minute and try to get some stuff done.
This, even though you spent the spring raising eighty gazzillion dollars or whatever amount it was, and took no responsible action on the deficit until Republicans forced your hand by threatening not to raise the debt ceiling.
I’ve never heard such condescension before. It’s different than the blame game you and the Republicans will now begin playing with each other. It shows, after being an inattentive senator for four years and president for only two and a half years, that you find yourself elevated above everyone else.
You speak often about how Ronald Reagan and Speaker Tip O’Neill had a great relationship and got things done. It’s not quite correct. But if you’re going to use them as a model, ask yourself, can you hear Reagan ordering O’Neill into his office?
Go ahead, knock heads among your staff. But Congress is not your staff.

That was creepy, but almost the least of it. He was saying, “You are doing a bad job of doing my job for me–explain yourself.” Like a cross dad. He really thinks he’s the bomb.

I think you are being to hard on the man. After all, isn’t his approach to governing and responding to Congress similar to how the Czar or the Premier responded to the Duma?

I think a lot of people are getting sick and tired of his angry dad routine. I don’t think any sensible person who voted for him expected him to fix the economy – the country knows it’s going through bad times and that one person cannot fix it. What I believe we wanted was someone to boost the morale of the country, and to inspire us and he had utterly FAILED at this.
Yeah–when he said I couldn’t fix it in a yr, who said a yr? He just spews this stuff out–it is so irritating when we are sitting out here waiting for some sign that we are not just a nuisance to the man. We are trying to live here! Survive!
I hoped we had hired someone beyond Booster and Inspirer. I had Leadership more in mind.

My fear is that he is angling for some kind of stock market plunge to force the House to accept whatever plan he has been pushing behind closed doors. Pelosi actually came out with that suggestion last week. Just goes to show how winning is more important to the left than the stability of our country.

I don’t think the President was at all wrong to speak the way he did in his “summons to the White House” as some are calling it. I am quite frankly upset with Congress too. I’m more likely to speak negatively about an equal co-worker than I am about someone above or below me anyway. I’m glad the President is willing to go all “angry dad” on some folks. The President is there as a check on Congress just like Congress is there as a check on the President. A lot of people think the checks are all one directional but they are not.
Now I don’t agree with everything the President said but I do not think this was thing to focus on.

I used to be a thirty-something liberal, too. That all changes when you realize that you’re expected to give your sweat and tears to those who don’t appreciate your efforts but, in fact, resent your good fortune.
Old-time liberals used to be closer to Libertarian ideals than the current thinking of “wealth redistrubution” that seems to fire up the left-wing Dems today.
It seems that posiitions and platforms of the two parties have changed over the years; where once Dems wanted less government interference in our personal lives their impetus has now evolved to where they want to control everything from our light bulbs to how many times we are allowed to visit the doctor.
Don’t worry, though, your outlook will change when you finally realize that YOU are not going to be the recipient of any of those “billionaires” extra confiscated taxes or be eligible for any special “grants” to pursue your life’s dream. If, and when, Obamacare becomes a reality, you will wait in line behind a junkie bum at the doctor’s office, even though your tax dollars are paying for the socialist’s medical dream of “free” health care.
That’s when you’ll understand.

hman – thanks, your comment means a lot to me. I wish that more people on either side of the political divide had the maturity and courage to listen to others and consider new ideas. Washington in particular is so full of intellectual one way streets.
So I’m glad if I write in a way that you find worth considering, and I appreciate your comments as well. I learn so much from you and the others who comment regularly on this blog. It gets me out of the Washington echo chamber, so that sometimes I listen to people inside the Beltway and I can honestly say, “You have no idea how real people think.”
The pres rambled someplace recently that people should not just listen to MSNBC and the NYT on one side and Fox and talk radio on the other. Studies show (ack) conservatives tend to listen to both sides more than libs do. So I guess he was urging his side to listen to Fox. No?
I woke up thinking the same thing this morning. They all react like he is their boss, and that is absolutely not true. He can’t order them to do anything. He can veto what he doesn’t like when they finally get around to doing something, but he better have a good excuse because they can override his veto. Man up, Congress. Put your heads together and come up with something for this country besides MORE DEBT!

Be that as it may, Obama has nothing to deal with except bluff and bluster, and bullying and grandstanding is the only way he can figure out how to appear as being in control.
The CCB was a very generous compromise, however, it is being dismissed as unreasonable. I would prefer something a little tougher myself, as it relies on future cuts to projected budgets on a ten year plan a bit too much. But the balanced budget detail would win the game, so I still like it.

How do you keep your job Keith? Have you ever been threatened by them? DH and I were talking last night and trying to figure out why the media keeps so silent knowing all of this is going on. I think they’re terrified, that they get calls in the middle of the night telling them to change their stories and that if they don’t do it some union thug will come a calling.

Keith,I couldn’t have said it better myself.Especially,the part about being an inattentive senator.This is the guy who voted present a ridiculous number of times in the Illinois legislature.Obama is the guy who likes to lead from behind or more precisely let’s others lead and then he cuts their legs out from under them(see Paul Ryan).Barack is the same guy who voted against raising the debt limit a few years ago.The man and his party’s senate have done nothing except raise lots of money and play crass politics.He has zero interest in lowering this country’s debt and,in fact,would keep raising it until the government runs everything.

Obama often shows disturbingly authoritarian tendencies.
First, he showed disdain for the Supreme Court Justices his first State of the Union address.
Second, he supported the mobs that prevented Wisconsin’s legislative body from convening.
And last, he condemned BP without any facts and well before a full investigation was done.
If this were a third world country, I can only imagine how he’d govern. This is not a good person.
We’ve never seen anything like our current, elected President.
At first, we were proud of the election of an African-American, our nation’s first, forever destroying the racial problems we had with his advance to our nation’s highest office. Then, slowly, as President Obama began to plant his imprimatur on the Oval Office did we begin to notice fissures in his press-appointed perfection: a political naievete, lack of understanding of geo-political issues, an opaque sense of anti-militarism, a silent (but sheer) distaste of Israel, the inability to work with members of Congress and a do-as-I-say, not-as-I-do arrogance (coupled with his wife’s travel spree during this troubling recession). This has led liberal, conservative and independents to question his fitness for office.
Can he really lead? Is he the right man? Race aside, we have come to realize, that President Obama has been a major disappointment. We pray that he would be successful, that he would make the right decisisons, rally the nation behind his personality and flair and lead us. Such was not to be.
President Obama is in this for his own wealth and prestige, national interests be damned.
If the President continues with his juvenile conduct and sense of entitlement, he can be assured of being roundly defeated in 2012.

This is what happens when we (no I did not vote for him) put someone in the highest office in America, who has no experience. All he has ever done is organize others, apparently not well at that. He has talked down to everyone, starting during the campaign with his bible and guns remark. He has shown utter disdain for historical furnishings in the Oval Office by putting his feet on them. I’m surprised he did not stomp his foot as he threw that ridiculous temper tantrum. He has held the office for 30 months and made no attempt at deficit reduction.

This should come as no surprise since we elected a POTUS based on the color of his skin, his elocution and guilt while holding him to no job performance whatsoever. Forgive the football analogy but we were arrogant, thought we could put in an unproven QB for a few series and still keep the lead. But this guy’s got his helmet on backwards while yelling at his players.
I’m starting to feel sorry for him…o.k., it passed.
One more point about adults. The grown-ups in the room tend to PLAN AHEAD. They know that in dealing with problems the sooner you address the issue the better your outcome will be. The debt/spending problem is not new… it was known about way back at the beginning of the year. Marco Rubio has said that our President purposely delayed addressing it in order to create a crisis. This is not mature/executive behavior.
The utter arrogance of this “thing” is just beyond me. How did we ever let such a contemptible, constitutional hating Marxist have control of this magnificent country, moreover, why are we not fighting to get rid of the would be “king”?
