In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Obama Morning News || April 8, 2011

President Obama and House Speaker Boehner appear to be arguing less over the amount of cuts than which cuts to make ad who wins politically, according to the Washington Post. The White House purposely saved Obama’s involvement in talks until the end as part of a strategy to show him marching to the rescue, POLITICO writes. Some Democrats blame Obama for the failure to get a deal last year, when Democrats were in charge.

The Daily Caller notes that a lot has changed since the last shutdown, arguing that Obama will fair less well than Clinton did. Boehner faces a choice: Shutdown or Tea Party revolt, writes Time.

Defense Secretary Gates sought to reassure soldiers on the impact of ending Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

Obama struck a deal on labor rights that he says will allow him to finally send the Colombia free trade agreement, negotiated by Bush, to Congress for approval.

And Vice President Biden’s daughter trashed Trump for his focus on Obama’s birthplace.

  1. The shut-down phenomenon is unheard of over here but I think the world is watching the events in Washington.with fascination. It is not easy to control the message in the biased media but I believe that a shut-down will be seen at least over here as a failure for rhe Obama administration ( which of course it is ) and that it can seriously hamper his campaigning ( and vacations ). I don´t live in the US anymore so I don´t have to feel the effects of it all but if you are for it I absolutely agree. Don´t let Obama slip away this time.

  2. Except for those personally affected by a government (partial) shutdown, most Americans won’t care if the process of financial responsiblity starts cutting the wasteful spending of Washington.
    Apparently the DC establishment didn’t understand the message sent last year. The voters said; Quit messing with our personal lives, stop spending our money foolishly or we’ll keep replacing you with people who think like we do.
    The Prez’s handlers kept him out of the budget talks to make him look like the saviour? are they smoking funny stuff in the WH? Nobody believes that.

    VPBiden’s daughter trashes MrTrump’s birther views. Who’s she and who cares what she thinks. Maybe Snooki can give her opinion on this, too.
