Government Trying to Silence Private Citizen’s Speech

The Democratic Party, in its quest for money and politically correct purity, has reached a new low.

A private citizen made a statement that some would find offensive. Democrats in Congress are trying to put that citizen out of business.

The citizen in question often makes controversial statements. He draws calumny from his opponents. And that is exactly whom the Framers intended to protect by writing the First Amendment.

According to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Rush Limbaugh said this:

How many of you guys, in your own experience with women, have learned that ‘no’ means ‘yes’ if you know how to spot it?

That resulted in a letter Sunday from Sandra Fluke, written on behalf of the DCCC:

As a previous target of Limbaugh’s sexist attacks, take it from me: we need to stand together and call Rush out. The DCCC has a petition to tell advertisers to stop funding this repulsive commentary.

Here’s the petition.

Limbaugh petition

As you can see, as of this morning, the campaign had exceeded its goal of 300,000 signatures.

The DCCC is no ordinary political group. It is, by its own telling “the official campaign arm of the Democrats in the House of Representatives.” It’s chaired by a Congressman, Rep. Steve Israel of New York, and other members of Congress head up its key branches.

I don’t care what you think about what Rush said. I don’t care what Sandra Fluke says about it – she has a right to her opinion.

What I care about is that the DCCC, your government, is trying to put Rush out of business because of something he said.

The subversion of our country and its principles to the agenda of the Democratic Party and its demands for political correctness is far more of a danger than anything Rush Limbaugh can come up with.

Led by President Obama, who writes his own laws out of the Oval Office, the government is getting increasingly habituated to capricious actions that ignore the law and the Constitution because of the idea, which is everything our Founders fought against, that the views of individual rulers can be so important and so “obviously correct” that they can be unilaterally imposed on the nation.

This is the birthplace of tyranny. It is the rationale of the Bolsheviks. Here, in our country.

Whatever we once understood about civics is being forgotten. Be afraid for your children’s future.

Rush: Obama Will Never be Impeached

Some conservatives are pushing for it, either because they think its deserved or because they know it provides a thrill up everyone’s leg. But Rush Limbaugh said Thursday that it will never happen: President Obama is just not going to be impeached.

There isn’t going to be any impeachment because there isn’t any political will. Even if you had a slam dunk legal case for it, you’re never going to succeed in impeaching the president unless there’s the political will for it,” Limbaugh said on his radio show Thursday in a segment noted by Buzzfeed.

That would require Obama’s approval numbers in the 20’s. And even then I’m not so sure that the people of this country would ever support removing the first black president. It’s just think – it’s never going to happen.

The bar for impeaching a president and dragging the country through such an event is properly high. Despite Obama’s abuse of his executive power, I don’t think impeachment is warranted at this point.

And I agree with Rush, that Obama’s race adds more height to the bar, politically at least, especially since his defenders appear increasingly fond of suggesting his opponents are animated by racism. An impeachment trial could well lead to race riots, and many Republicans, even if there was a thoroughly legitimate case for impeaching Obama, would be cowed.

Rush Limbaugh Turns 25

Well, you know what I mean.

Rush celebrated his 25th anniversary on the air yesterday. I thought I’d provide you a quote from his show Thursday which pretty much sums up what he’s be fighting against all these year.

Let me try it this way. For 25 years I’ve been trying to explain liberalism to people. I’ve come up with as many different ways to explain it as I’ve engaged in. Let’s put it this way. And by no means is this the best or the final. I’m gonna be struggling with this for as long as I do this. What liberals want will never happen on its own. People will not live the way liberals want if left to their own devices, because people will not build walls to keep themselves in places that they don’t want to be, such as the Soviet Union, such as China, such as Cuba. Those places are all run by liberals. You can call ’em communists or socialists or whatever.

Left to their own devices, in a free country, people will not choose liberalism. If they want to eat salt, they’ll eat it. If they want to eat trans fats, they’ll eat it. If they want to eat beef, they’ll eat it. The only way liberals can get you to live the way they want you to is to deny you freedom to do what you want to do. And they’re not happy with you living and thinking in ways other than the way they live and think. You must conform. If you dare speak outside the acceptable liberal norms, they’re gonna come after you. They’re gonna do their best to destroy whoever does that so that that person or group of people will not persuade others.

Liberals cannot survive in an unrigged contest in the arena of ideas. They are not about ideas. Liberals are not about choice; they are about imposition. The way they live, the way they believe, must be imposed on people, otherwise they won’t do it on their own. It’s taken them 50, 60 years to get to this point of conditioning people, of taking hold of the education system, the university, academia system, the media. It’s taken a long time to condition people not to stand up for themselves, not to exercise freedom, not to speak outside the acceptable norms. What is political correctness but speech censorship, is all it is.

The liberals have taken over the culture. I grew up listening to the mainstream media, and I’m not sure I thought there was much good about this country until high school, when I started thinking and reading for myself.

Having spent decades, as Rush discusses, seizing the culture, the left is now engaged in two major projects: Grow dependency on government (Obamacare) and speed the growth of the population that doesn’t understand American values (illegal immigrants) while making sure you use the culture to teach the newcomers that American values are personified by the Democratic Party.

Illegal immigrants come for cultures that don’t value limited government. Many illegal immigrants may be hard working, but conservatives are kidding themselves if they think this translates into some kind of libertarianism. Illegal immigrants will always vote Democratic, hoping for and expecting government help as they work their way up and not understanding how the government’s presence in their lives is counterproductive.

Perhaps their children will be conservatives. But by then, Rush will be off the air, doctors will all be working in the Well Being Providers Division of the Department of Health and Human Services, and it will all be much, much too late.

Rush: Victory for Gay Marriage “Inevitable”

Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh said today that the battle to preserve marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman is lost.

This issue is lost. I don’t care what the Supreme Court does, this is now inevitable — and it’s inevitable because we lost the language on this. I mentioned the other day that I’ve heard people talk about “opposite-sex marriage,” or you might have had heard people say “traditional marriage.”

You might have heard people say “hetero-marriage.” I maintain to you that we lost the issue when we started allowing the word “marriage” to be bastardized and redefined by simply adding words to it, because marriage is one thing, and it was not established on the basis of discrimination. It wasn’t established on the basis of denying people anything. “Marriage” is not a tradition that a bunch of people concocted to be mean to other people with. But we allowed the left to have people believe that it was structured that way . . .

So far as I’m concerned, once we started talking about “gay marriage,” “traditional marriage,” “opposite-sex marriage,” “same-sex marriage,” “hetero-marriage,” we lost.  It was over.  It was just a matter of time.

Rush goes on to make the argument that marriage is more than an arrangement between two people – evolving as a way to unite a man and a woman to raise a family together – and that by definition it is limited to opposite sex relationships.

A Leader Singles Out his Enemies in the Press

Did you hear? Hugo Chavez leapt up out of his cancer bed and attacked two Venezuelan media outlets by name, hoping to get them to take a more pro-Chavez line.

Terrible that Venezuela has become such a place – its leader working to chill free expression in order to advance his agenda.

I’d say we’ve finally come to this, but of course Obama and his White House have pulled this stuff before.

But here’s the latest, from Obama’s interview with two lackeys – one of whom actually worked on his campaign in 2008 and donated money to him since – from the New Republic.

Obama said:

One of the biggest factors is going to be how the media shapes debates. If a Republican member of Congress is not punished on Fox News or by Rush Limbaugh for working with a Democrat on a bill of common interest, then you’ll see more of them doing it.

Does Obama stop and think even for a second about the ramifications of what he’s doing? Whether it’s appropriate for someone as powerful has he to be bullying specific members of the press?

Free speech guarantees freedom and all those values of the Founders Obama promoted in his Inaugural address. But Obama thinks his myopic little agenda is more important than such timeless principles. That he is grander than freedom of the press. And that whatever he needs to do to achieve his goals is worth it.

Not only did Obama attack Fox News and Rush Limbaugh, he offered up some advice to mainstream journalists. In a word – shed your objectivity and come join me:

There’s no equivalence there. In fact, that’s one of the biggest problems we’ve got in how folks report about Washington right now, because I think journalists rightly value the appearance of impartiality and objectivity. And so the default position for reporting is to say, “A plague on both their houses.” On almost every issue, it’s, “Well, Democrats and Republicans can’t agree”—as opposed to looking at why is it that they can’t agree. Who exactly is preventing us from agreeing?

Obama thinks that because ideas are his, they are objectively true, and therefore objective journalists will come to the same conclusion.

WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT IS KNOWN AS SUBJECTIVITY. Because he’s so convinced of his incontestable rightness, Obama doesn’t even understand that he’s asking reporters to be liberals. He thinks he’s asking them to be objective.

I know it’s difficult for people who are sure they are right about things to live in a democracy and have to tolerate FREE SPEECH that injures their cause. Obama is accusing Limbaugh and Fox News of wrecking the democratic process by actually influencing Republicans with their speech.

But, Mr. President, this is exactly how the democratic process is supposed to work. The democratic process is not about getting results. It’s about having an argument, and then getting results if you can.

Sorry, I know that’s hard work. But that’s the way we do it here. It’s a little different than Venezuela.
