The man described as Oprah Winfrey’s “longtime partner” Stedman Graham is, through the courtesy of Oprah’s pal Gayle King of CBS, trying to say he was misinterpreted when he clearly said Oprah would “absolutely” run for president if the people demanded it.
“It’s up to the people,” Graham, told The Los Angeles Times. “She would absolutely do it.”
King, who is supposedly paid to be an objective journalist and not a PR flack for Oprah, said his words were not what they obviously were.
“Stedman says that he thought the reporter asked him, ‘Would she make a good president,’ and he said, ‘Absolutely, she would,'” King said Tuesday morning. “That’s how he interpreted the question because here’s the thing, Stedman would never so cavalierly say, ‘Absolutely, she would do it. It’s up to the people.'”
I think he meant what he said and he said what he meant. Oprah certainly doesn’t want to look too eager or invite too much scrutiny so early. So Stedman blew it and he and Oprah enlisted CBS to help them out.
