House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy has a point. Information related to Russia is being leaked piecemeal in order to keep the Trump White House in a constant state of crisis and to destroy the president’s ability to enact his agenda. If that’s not the intention, that’s the result.
Gowdy said on Fox News:
Someone close to the president needs to get everyone connected with that campaign in a room and say, ‘From the time you saw Dr. Zhivago until the moment you drank vodka with a guy named Boris, you list every single one of those and we’re going to turn them over to the special counsel,’ because this drip, drip, drip is undermining the credibility of this administration.
I covered the Clinton administration, and they were experts at scandal, given that, unlike the current White House, they had a president involved in actual and repeated wrongdoing. Their strategy, as formulated by then-press secretary Mike McCurry — who had already served as press secretary for Sen. Harrison Williams, who was convicted of bribery and conspiracy in the Abscam scandal — was to collect as much information as possible and get it out in the public in one big document dump, preferably on a Friday night.
Well, Clinton survived his scandals and left the White House — of course, as we know, penniless — but with a 66 percent approbate rating.
