What It’s Like to Use a Teleprompter

It’s not as simple as some might think.

In the video below, you can see one of the teleprompters rolling as President Trump was delivering remarks in the Rose Garden on June 1, 2017 about his decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accords.

There was a problem with at least one of the teleprompter that day, and Trump appeared to be reading from a hard copy of his remarks. But I caught this teleprompter working late in the speech, and I’m not sure if he had taken to looking at it.

You can get an idea of what it’s like if he were from this video I took. Note that it stops as he goes off script and then begins to roll again. Seems like a leap of faith to trust what you are seeing as you read it, and it’s not too easy to follow along.
