Democratic Senator Proposes Putting Coal Plants in a Museum

Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., said today that that he wants to vastly expand the Smithsonian Institution so that it can hold every coal-fired electicity plant by mid-century.

“Let’s take and put every coal, electricity generating plant into a museum by the year 2050,” Merkley said.

I guess he’ll call it the Museum of Natural Resources History.

Of course, like other Democrats trying to put people out of business, he probably has some plan for the “workers” to teach them all how to ring up customers at Target. Those “worker retraining programs” are famously ineffective except as a fig leaf for Democratic politicians.

Note how former Barack Obama economic advisor Austin Goolsbee, who is sitting next to Merkley, was careful not to offer a positive reaction. But Merkley, who is being touted as a potential 2020 presidential candidate, is simply saying what other Democrats think but are mostly smart enough not to say.

Well, mostly.

  1. Merkley, who is being touted as a potential 2020 presidential candidate,

Works for me. The more of this the country hears, the more pierced the Social Democrat Party is.

  2. Merkley should focus more on the plague of homeless in Portland, which is a mecca for runaway teens these days.

Or: Deal with in state crazies like the guy who walked into the store the other day with his mother’s severed, dripping head in his hand and stabbed the store clerk. Mental illness abounds and we talk about shutting down power plants….insane, pun intended.

Oregon has just a few more pending issues before they retire coal plants….

    H

  3. The cavalier attitude of the Dems about coal miner’s futures is appalling and ‘not who we are’ as Obama used to say.
We can’t destroy a whole industry because we don’t like what they produce or the people who work there, because someone tweaked some computer numbers to claim that we’re ruining our planet with heat/ice/change/wind or whatever the current fad is today.

  4. Oregon gets it electricity 43% from hydro, wiping out native salmon species among other environmental disasters, and 34% from coal. Just how does this moon-bat think his espresso machine is going to be powered when the lefties all get their way?
