Ryan on Trump Meeting: Good Start, Not There Yet

House Speaker Paul Ryan today said he had a great meeting with Donald Trump Thursday morning on Capitol Hill, but he indicated more work needs to be done before he is able to support the presumptive nominee.

“I was very encouraged with what I heard from Donald Trump today,” Ryan said. “I do believe that we are now planting the seeds to get ourselves unified, to bridge the gaps and differences.”

But he added, “This is a process. It takes a little time,” saying, “It’s very important that we don’t fake unifying.”

    • About what I expected–best I could hope for. I sure didn’t want Ryan slobbering all over him like some members have been doing…If he became president, Trump would have to nego with Ryan, who would be the goalie–not just call up and say, got some more notions for you do whatever you do with them and get them made into law.

  1. Trump should just invite them all out for a lovely weekend at his winery in Virginia :)

A good start translation: Oh we are so playing political theater games because we can’t go from #NeverTrump to #AlwaysTrump in one heartbeat or we’ll look stupid !

I watched Ryan’s presser live and his carefully worded responses were very telling.

Trump’s meeting with GOP Senate leaders now, so I’m sure there will more pressers today.

    • And mix in more than a little “My support is for sale like all political decisions we always make. He offered me a little but I’m a big cheese now so I want more”

    • Trump is a disrupter, a contrarian, an against the status quo challenger. There is nothing that those who benefit from the status quo detest more than a disrupter. Organizations, families, political parties (especially political parties) detest disrupters. They mock them, ridicule them, call them names, misquote them and try to get them out of the way ASAP. They will list the 10,000 reasons why the disrupter is crazy, lying, deceiving, not fit for purpose, etc. They will list zero positive points about the disrupter. Just like we did in the eighth grade with someone we didn’t like. He has no good qualities, you see. Not one. He’s not one of us, they will say. He will destroy everything. They will attack and try to humiliate those who support the disrupter.

That’s why the very comfortable media and political “establishment” is all tangled up in their underwear re Trump. He crashed their little party, literally in the case of Trump. Great fun to watch, though. Best political campaign evah!

  2. Reince Priebus just said Trump ‘ is in line with the Party platform’, and the mtg. was ‘a
very positive, first step toward Party unity’.

After spending the last 9 months ginning up the crowds with his heated rhetoric of building a wall, deporting all illegals, etc. etc., it turns out The Donald is just playing a game of Three Card Monty.

Behind closed doors, Trump will turn out to be as flexible as Obama said he would be with Putin AFTER the election.
This may not play well with his core supporters.

My only consolation is that anyone is better than the alternative…even if he tows the Party line. Sigh.

    • I have to call BS on your negative response.
No one said the Donald is giving up. He is doing what he has to do to get to be president.
These old guard useless RHINO’s will be purged after Trump is elected.

  3. It’s a process, takes time?
Who the heck does he think he is, and who the heck does he think the voters are?
The Repub voters said they want MrTrump to be their candidate, not MrRyan’s opinion of MrTrump.

We get that the elite establishment doesn’t like MrTrump, we understand that he isn’t toeing the line they pretend to care about, and his ideas aren’t in sync with the “bend over, do what the Dems want” agenda.
The voters don’t care what the elites want and they showed their distain in millions of votes
for MrTrump, not the establishment candidates.

MrRyan’s attitude and words are insulting to all of Trump’s supporters and it will cost him in the long run.

  4. Ryan would know all about ‘faking it” as the GOP has been faking it since they won majorities in both houses. He needs to take a seat, because he is part of the problem, not the solution. An btw, he needs to articulate what ‘shared values”, he is referring to, like; the unending flow of illegal immigrants that the rest of us have to cloth, feed, house and educate? Will the globalists be happy when everybody from a third world cesspool that wants to be here eventually arrives? Do tell us, Mr. Ryan, we are waiting……

  5. I didn’t listen to the presser. Don’t care what Ryan has to say – would be like listening to O. He has been infected with the quest for power at whatever cost.
And right now, don’t want to listen to Trump either…don’t start pussy footing around, Mr. Trump.
There is one reason and one reason only that people will vote for you – if they believe you are honestly anti-establishment. Don’t let your handlers convince you otherwise.
Most of the Repub establishment convinced Mitt to be more “moderate” and/or less aggressive and look where it got him. LO-SER!
His jealousy of your “I don’t care what the estab. says” non-conformity is the source of his attacks on you.
Of course, all of this is only my opinion.
