Obama Commutes Sentences of 22 Drug Dealers

President Obama today commuted the sentences of 22 convicted drug dealers. Mostly cocaine.

Remember, it’s a commutation, not a pardon. They still got a record. Below is a representative sample. You can see the whole list here if you like.

Commutation Grant:  Prison sentence commuted to expire on July 28, 2015.

• Lionel Ray Hairston – Ridgeway, VA
Offense:  Distribution of cocaine base (three counts) (Western District of Virginia)
Sentence:  262 months’ imprisonment; eight years’ supervised release (May 27, 1999)
Commutation Grant:  Prison sentence commuted to expire on July 28, 2015.

• Francis Darrell Hayden – Loretto, KY

• Harold Kenneth Herring – Havana, FL

  1. I’m actually ok with this. according to the news, if they’d been sentenced under current guidelines, they would have served their time already.

and while I don’t approve of cocaine, I do think that jailing anyone for ANY amount of marijuana–yes, Keith, even a whole bunch of plants–is just silly.

this is actually the second thing Obama’s done today that I approve of. (that brings the running total up to 3!) the other one is that he has finally released the foreign aid to Egypt that was suspended when his buddies in the Muslim Brotherhood were overthrown.

Without any other information – the guy was a convicted felon before he was charged with owning a firearm – so he gets to walk away now.
Why is he doing this now – it’s not Christmas, nor is there any compelling reason to do this other than he wants to..

    • He has a soft spot in his heart for drug dealers.
Now that pot is legal in most places and cocaine is so easily obtained these days, the dealers will need to find a new source of employment after they are released from prison.
ObamaCare fraud? Transporting children from Central America?
Many job opportunities available from the Obama administration.

  3. If you do the math they all have been in at least 10 yrs. The war on drugs isa failure. He commuted the sentence becauseDOJ rrecommended it.

  4. Convicted felon with a firearm should be a life sentence with no parole.

Keeping sociopaths off the street is better than trying to taking away the ability of law abiding citizens to protect themselves.

Do these ex-cons get a SEIU tee shirt and obamaphone in there gift bags?

  5. Jailing someone for life for marijuana is insane! As for the coke dealers he freed, I imagine Barry’s new buds will ensure he has a never ending supply of nose candy, for life!

  6. Why doesn’t he let terrorists out too? Oh wait…

And then empty all the prisons and declare martial law….not to give anyone any ideas though.
