White House to Delay Again a Key Obamacare Rule

by Keith Koffler on March 4, 2014, 9:19 am

The White House will delay yet again the requirement that insurers offer Obamacare-compliant plans, avoiding for an unknown period what would be for Democrats a politically catastrophic move to strip voters of their current insurance.

Late last year, amid accusations that he had lied when he promised voters, “If you like your insurance you can keep you insurance,” Obama delayed until January 1, 2015 the deadline for insurers to offer everyone a plan that hews to Obamacare’s strictures.

But this would still have caused problems for Democrats later this year as people began receiving their current-plan cancellation notices in advance, within weeks of Election Day.

According to The Hill, the White House will move as early as this week to remove the issue from Democrats’ list of 2014 problems:

As early as this week, according to two sources, the White House will announce a new directive allowing insurers to continue offering health plans that do not meet ObamaCare’s minimum coverage requirements.

The Hill, an independent publication that is the top news outlet covering Congress, does not hesitate to highlight the political intent of the decision:

Prolonging the “keep your plan” fix will avoid another wave of health policy cancellations otherwise expected this fall.

The cancellations would have created a firestorm for Democratic candidates in the last, crucial weeks before Election Day.

The White House is intent on protecting its allies in the Senate, where Democrats face a battle to keep control of the chamber.

A one-year moratorium pushed the deadline beyond the midterm election, but insurers must send out cancellation notices 90 days in advance. That would mean notices in the mail by Oct. 1, five weeks before voters go to the polls.

So much for the rule of law.

In backward countries, political leaders manipulate laws – and write their own statutes –  in order to maintain power. In backward countries.

We, actually, are an advanced country. But there is an illness in the republic, and it’s getting graver as this presidency continues.

In other news, Hugo Chavez this morning sent Obama a telegram from Hell congratulating him on “learning to rule like a real leader.”

But I thought these “subpar”, “substandard”, “ACME” plans were awful and bad for all people?
Now we are forced to keep these “inadequate” plans?
Oh the Humanity.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Obama said that Obamacare rules were suspended and postponed until Wednesday November 5.

veritaseequitas March 4, 2014 at 9:46 am

Well apparently us Americans can stand the substandard, subpar, inadequate insurance for just a little longer, eh?
5 Nov sounds just about right. Then he is home free, he can hang the result around the neck of the next POTUS.

Star March 4, 2014 at 10:43 am

Oh, they are really really bad when that creepy Zeke Emanuel describes them–maybe only a total of $5K in coverage. Oh, please, this is not what is meant–straw man! Yeah, we wouldn’t want to give anyone a false sense of security–or any sense. By the way, Emanuel laughed on MJ–it was horrible…I may never sleep again.

Scottso March 4, 2014 at 10:46 am

November 5 is Guy Fawkes day.
Not saying we need a revolution…but perhaps we need to get rid of 90% of the dirt.

Girly1 March 4, 2014 at 9:43 am

If you like your plan, you can keep it until after the election.

Obama has just reached the pinnacle in the pantheon of liars, charlatans and swindlers. There must be some sort of award to bestow upon him to complement his ‘Peace Prize’.

There must be some sort of award to bestow upon him to complement his ‘Peace Prize’.

The Oczar!

I saw that on a political cartoon at Breitbart.

veritaseequitas March 4, 2014 at 9:44 am

So Barry is banking on the voters being stupid enough not to realize that as soon as the election is over, he will revive his monumentally crappy legislation?
Detestable is not too strong a word to describe this cretin.

Geoff Caldwell March 4, 2014 at 10:32 am

It worked in 2012 can’t blame em for thinking it will work in ’14 as well.

Martha Trowbridge March 4, 2014 at 11:00 am

It ‘worked’ only via massive election fraud – millions of fake voters plus digital vote theft.

Why do you think they are so adamant about voter ID? Extended voting?

If we don’t crack down on this outrageous crime, we haven’t a chance.

We can start by auditing the vote. Example: in Milwaukee alone, a 2012 citizens group verifying voters could not find 157,000 AFRICAN-AMERICAN OBAMA 2008 VOTERS.

They did not exist, except for the purpose of FAKE VOTING.

Do the math. Take each large city, multiply by 150,000, and tally.

The fraud extends to every level. Why do you think the Communists-Cloaked-As Democrats keep winning?

Girly1 March 4, 2014 at 11:33 am

Absentee ballots and Motor Voter – easy peasy for the illegals.

Julie Brueckheimer March 4, 2014 at 3:51 pm

Voter IDs and hard copy ballots.

DeniseVB March 4, 2014 at 10:13 am

For the first time in my adult life I rather like a dictator better than my President.

Girly1 March 4, 2014 at 10:16 am

I think that feeling is unanimous, Denise. Who woulda ever thunk it?

Scottso March 4, 2014 at 10:49 am

any dead dictator is a good dictator.

Porterhouse March 4, 2014 at 10:19 am

This is the biggest slow-motion train wreck in world history.

Someone needs to stop it.

srdem65 March 4, 2014 at 10:28 am

If MrO does delay this main thrust of the ACA, it is an admission of failure, and acknowlegement that the public is being harmed by this miserable law. It won’t stop the Repubs from using this as a hammer to nail home that the Dems are afraid to implement the rest of the law, don’t care about it, but care more about their own political hides.

If they use this delay to help Dems with their re-elections in 2014, then they have to extend the delay past 2016 because there will be another round of Congressional elections and of course, the Presidential election.
The WhiteHouse and the Dems can’t hide from this mess anymore.

Geoff Caldwell March 4, 2014 at 10:31 am

The minute the 47% “advanced” this idiot to a second term we went backwards for generations to come.

truckinjarheadretired March 4, 2014 at 10:42 am

This so called president, as well as his minions, makes my posterior want to take a dip of snuff.

This move really isn’t a surprise by the most corrupt admin ever, but it does make me wonder just how devastating the internal polls are for the Dems. I hope the GOP can get their act together and message effectively but that seems as unlikely as Michelle giving up her travel perks.

William in CA March 4, 2014 at 10:50 am

Keith, you and everyone else keep writing about the rule of law being tossed out the window, but when is one of the spineless clan of amoeba in DC going to ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?

Martha Trowbridge March 4, 2014 at 10:52 am

“We, actually, are an advanced country. But there is an illness in the republic, and it’s getting graver as this presidency continues.”

Again, Keith, with respect, I ask you: Use your influence with the White House Press Corp, urge them to DO THEIR JOB.

Start with investigating Obama’s Identity Fraud. There are sworn affidavits by law enforcement and document experts. Amongst the fraudulent identity documents: “Obama’s” birth certificate, selective service registration, and social security number.

What are you guys waiting for?

gracepmc March 4, 2014 at 11:34 am

Will this come via pen or phone? Anyone referring to this as a law should be an object of ridicule and scorn.

The bar for impeachment of a self selected black president must be pretty darned high.

truckinjarheadretired March 4, 2014 at 12:07 pm

Ah, gracepmc my dear, he’s actually half black. Did you forget that his mammy was white?

Semper Fi

Star March 4, 2014 at 12:36 pm

I think we can go with self-identified and US-identified as black. Sort of related–a South African comedian named Trevor Noah has some amusing riffs on this–he is “mixed” (they have that as a category and wanted to be black, his dad was Swiss, so they said go to America–you will be black…Check him out.

gracepmc March 4, 2014 at 12:48 pm

Thank you Star. Self identified is indeed what I meant. Although self appointed has a nice authoritarian ring to it also.

Star March 4, 2014 at 2:46 pm

…works for me.

gracepmc March 4, 2014 at 12:47 pm

I’m not even sure that a televised burning of the constitution in the Rose Garden, followed by a victory dance will get a rise out of the American people sufficient to preserve the Republic.

Increasingly I believe we are a nation of cowards.

Darkangel March 4, 2014 at 1:00 pm

(What I’d say if I had the chance…)

Mr. President, enough is enough.

For a supposedly “settled law,” you seem to be making up an awful lot of exceptions to it out of whole cloth. This is in defiance of the very law you yourself signed, as well as of the Constitution of the United States. Respectfully, you are not a one-man legislator, executive, and judge, Sir.

Anyone who has even a modicum of civic awareness can see right through what you are doing. You’re trying to forestall the pain that you knew–you knew, Sir, and don’t bother denying it!–would hurt the American people. It just so happened that they’d be getting the bad news right before the elections, and that could not be allowed to happen.

It won’t work, Mr. President. We, the People, are not as stupid as you think we are.

So either stand by your law, as you signed it, or repeal the whole disaster and start over.

There’s no harm in admitting you screwed up. Voters might even be inclined to forgive you, and your party, if you start this whole operation over from scratch, and actually listen to the People for once in your presidency.

But if you’re going to pigheadedly stick to your guns, then you will be paving the way for another GOP rout in 2014, and complete GOP control of the government starting in 2017…in which case, your signature law is going to get repealed, anyway. And since the minority now has no rights in the Senate–thank your hatchet man Harry Reid for that–what’s going to emerge is a market-based system that’s much more likely to work, and much more likely to show your health care scheme up as a socialist failure from Day One.

What would that do to your legacy, Sir?

If you care about your legacy, then it’s time to man up and and admit you got it wrong. History will certainly forgive you if you’re man enough to admit your mistake.

But if you continue to amend your law by decree, you will only cement your legacy as the most successful confidence man in the history of the Republic.

Either enforce it, or end it, Sir.

Enough is enough.

Lee March 4, 2014 at 4:19 pm

All the people who did not read the Bill and signed it, should read your letter as well.

Brando March 4, 2014 at 2:20 pm

His internal numbers are FCKED.

Karm March 4, 2014 at 3:25 pm

if you dont like Obamacare you must be racist.

Barry is the smartest president ever…his IQ is 243

Darkangel March 4, 2014 at 6:17 pm

If he really is that smart, then there’s no way he can plead ignorance, is there? It therefore must be his intent to screw things up for the United States of America as royally as possible.

Thanks for playing, and good night.
