As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

Milton Friedman’s Message for Obama

The message was delivered to mushy headed liberal Phil Donahue, the former talk show host, in 1979. But if Obama had just listened to Friedman’s insight about the foolishness of central planning, he might not be in the mess he’s in today.

Not that he really would listen. Just thought you’d enjoy this.

H/T to Jamie Weinstein at the Daily Caller.

  1. Thanks for the clip, Keith. Dr. Friedman was also Reagan’s economic advisor – proof positive that free enterprise works.

    A question for Obama:
Why is it “greed” to want to keep the money you have earned but not greed to want to take somebody else’s?

    • Ironically, Oprah’s unabashed support of Obama ultimately cost her a fortune when she lost her ABC afternoon show. I read recently that her cable show is just now beginning to show a profit.
Would she allow Obama to run Harpo? No way. She is a racist, but she’s not stupid. It would be a great question though.

    • Oprah’s use of the race card as an excuse for Obama’s epic failures, and more importantly, lies, is b-o-r-i-n-g and falls on my deaf ears.

    • Denise, I think someone on The Five is a fan of WHD. They were discussing the Oprah racist remark and Andrea T. (can’t think of her last name) repeated your question, almost verbatim, about hiring Obama to run Harpo :)

    • “I have had this clip on my desk top for years. Sad that the BHO handlers only know JMK and Marx via their myopia.” – Mac Scott

      They may know Machiavelli also;

“I’m not interested in preserving the status quo; I want to overthrow it.”

“A prince never lacks legitimate reasons to break his promise.”

“Men are so simple and so much inclined to obey immediate needs that a deceiver will never lack victims for his deceptions.”

      And, of course, best for Obama and most famously;
“It is better to be feared than loved, if you cannot be both.”

all quotes Niccolo Machiavelli, “The Prince”.

Of course, given the lightproof shroud the “most transparent President EVAH” threw over his school records, we don’t really know WHAT he studied, do we? Other than the Koran, of course, he DOES tell us about THAT one…

“In his autobiography, “Dreams From My Father,” Obama mentions studying the Quran and describes the public school as “a Muslim school.”

“In the Muslim school, the teacher wrote to tell mother I made faces during Koranic studies.”

According to Tine Hahiyary, one of Obama’s teachers and the principal from 1971 through 1989, Barry actively took part in the Islamic religious lessons during his time at the school. His teacher was named Maimunah and she lived in the Puncak area, the Cianjur Regency.

“I remembered that he had studied ‘mengaji’ (recitation of the Quran)” Tine said.

Our guy in Jakarta writes: “The actual usage of the word ‘mengaji’ in Indonesian and Malaysian societies means the study of learning to recite the Quran in the Arabic language rather than the native tongue. “Mengagi” is a word and a term that is accorded the highest value and status in the mindset of fundamentalist societies here in Southeast Asia. To put it quite simply, ‘mengaji classes’ are not something that a non practicing or so-called moderate Muslim family would ever send their child to. To put this in a Christian context, this is something above and beyond simply enrolling your child in Sunday school classes.”

ALL his actions since becoming Prezzy suggest he’s read ALL these works, and very much taken them to heart…

      • Obama has at least a supeficial knowledge of Machiavelli. I saw a clip from a roast of Rahm Emanuel in which Obama was the MC. (This was in Chicago before Obama became President.) He made a reference to Emanuel’s ballet days and said that he was the only person who had ever choreographed The Prince.

        • That’s actually kind of witty, for Obama. Makes me think it came from speechwriters even then…

While I think Obama may have a lot in common with the Medicis, I suspect they may have been a little too “Western Civ” for a man of his tastes and ideological bent…

Although on the other hand, Islam DOES take from other religions and grafts them (“perfects” them, in their words) onto itself, even as they used parts of destroyed catherderals to build thier own mosques, so perhaps Obama taking from Western culture to use it for self-justification in his “enemies” despite…

  2. There is a series of Friedman’s Free to Choose videos on You Tube. It is called PBS..Free to Choose. He did the video before he wrote the book. There is also a 6 minute You Tube showing Friedman taking apart a young Michael Moore when he had a neck.

  3. How funny! My husband was just looking at old Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell clips last night. What they said decades ago could be used word for word to refute the “new” ideas of today.

    • It seems a LOT of people did not pay attention in history class.
      Watch the cartoon as kids.
Most of all did not listen to one word of ther elders, to learn what
they went though during G Depression, World War II, etc.

  4. Mark Levin played this clip on his radio show last night. What a fantastic lesson on the free market system. As I was watching this video, it really hit me how different liberal commentators were back then. Juxtapose that interview with a debate between a liberal and a conservative today, and it would be as different as night and day. Phil Donahue would be shouting over and cutting off Mr. Friedman so he couldn’t express a complete thought. Also, the liberal would be asking questions about gay marriage, abortion, and amnesty; fiscal issues are not a problem with today’s leftist ruling class. As Preezy Revenge and his acolytes are fond of saying, ‘we don’t have a spending problem, we have a taxing problem’.

  5. Even Jesus said we’d always have poor people. There is no perfect system because there are no perfect people. Everyone starts out with good intentions, but the greed gets in the way of a good thing and people are burned.

    • The poor people will hook up with Medicaid, the older sick people with Obamacare, which will ten be a national high risk pool, and the rest of us can let companies compete for our business, providing catastrophic, HMO plans, Cadillacs, PPOs, etc.. Voila!

      No?

      Well, I tried.
