Obama Stays Overnight in Florida to Play Golf

by Keith Koffler on November 9, 2013, 11:40 am

President Obama appears to have remained overnight in Miami – incurring extra costs for taxpayers – just to play golf in the Florida sunshine.

Obama headed out this morning to the exquisite Grande Oaks Golf Club in Fort Lauderdale, a trip that required a half hour motorcade from his hotel his Miami. And it will be well worth the trip, at least for him. According to the course website:

Grande Oaks Golf Club is a private club located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Home of the movie “Caddyshack,” Grande Oaks offers members an exclusive atmosphere with some of south Florida’s foremost socialites. The Raymond Floyd re-designed 18-hole championship course, 40-acre practice facility and southern plantation style clubhouse provides sanctuary, serenity and the utmost in service.

Nice. Obama is undoubtedly paying his own green fees, but taxpayers must foot the bill for the huge presidential entourage that remained overnight in Miami instead of returning the Washington Friday.

Obama finished up his fundraising duties in Miami Friday night at 8:20 pm ET. Normally he would then jet back to the White House for a late evening arrival. But instead, he headed to a hotel.

There are no official events on his schedule today, golf seemingly his primary duty. He’ll depart Miami for Washington at 3:25 pm.

This marks the 150th time Obama has played golf as president, and the 39th time this year.

Playing with Obama today are basketball great Alonzo Mourning, former U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk and Cyrus Walker, who is a cousin of Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett.

With the burden of reelection behind him – and no further need for the self-proclaimed warrior for the middle class to keep up appearances – Obama’s 39 outings to the links this year is easily an annual record, eclipsing the mark of 34 he set in 2011. He’ll no doubt pad the total should balmy weather occur in Washington this month and when he heads to Hawaii in December for his annual Christmas vacation.

Last year, with an election to be won, Obama only played 19 times. He golfed 28 times in 2009 and 30 in 2010.

Pay? I find it hard to believe that this “plantation style” snooty golf club wouldn’t comp him and his pals. Or, at the least, some Dem do-gooder wouldn’t “treat the Prez” for a special favor.

Star November 9, 2013 at 12:15 pm

Good heavens yes–our president should never have to pay!

Mandy Manners November 9, 2013 at 12:06 pm

Is it anywhere near The Villages?

rawheadrex November 9, 2013 at 12:09 pm

Nero fiddled while Rome burned; BHO golfed while America crumbled.

Girly1 November 9, 2013 at 12:17 pm

He’s incorrigible!!! A sleep-over and play day that cost more than his annual salary! Keep it up, Barry – you will pay the ultimate price.

Melvin November 9, 2013 at 9:22 pm

Ultimate price? What does that mean?

Carl Olson Jr November 10, 2013 at 11:35 am

That’s an assassination threat silly.

Star November 10, 2013 at 12:00 pm

Then I don’t want to be on the same thread–won’t post here today.

Mike Lester November 9, 2013 at 12:24 pm

Mark Steyn wrote a column comparing the perks of BHO to that of the Royal family. It ain’t even close. But I got to admit it’s a pretty nice day: 75 and sunny. Going to beach.

gracepmc November 9, 2013 at 12:49 pm

From time to time, an alligator makes its way on the golf courses in Florida.

gracepmc November 9, 2013 at 12:56 pm

Actually I guess it will be gophers! Turns out this is the course where Caddyshack was filmed. Lots of presidential hilarity on Twitchy — and this man deserves to be mocked at every turn.

Bye Bye.
We have a troll patrol here and it is on active duty.

Yeah, Jonsan–skeedaddle.

Star November 9, 2013 at 1:45 pm

Oh, and Jonsan–Many here make more than $83 an hr and are too smart to buy an Alpha Romeo, because they spend a lot of hours in the shop.

Star November 9, 2013 at 1:49 pm

We had a guy here who has an Aston Martin–was that Langley? I keep thinking it’s someone who doesn’t come here anymore… Sorry, I am on a tangent… Golf does not enthrall me–even arrogant, in your face, take that stupid peons golf!

Nikon November 9, 2013 at 6:43 pm

I agree, golf is an arrogant hobby.

PBB November 9, 2013 at 1:15 pm

In theory, Corporate America would not allow an employee to expense an extra night in a hotel so there employee could get in a round of golf. It does happen under the radar.

The Obama’s have certainly pushed the envelope when it comes to expenses footed by the Taxpayers. In fact, many in power have done this such as Nancy Pelosi and Leon Panetta demanding planes that are non stop to California. There needs to be some type of budget for travel and expenses. This travel for a meaningless speech as President in the Afternoon and fundraiser at Night has to stop. Not just the President but FLOTUS as well. Flying separate planes to the same destination or flying the entire family including 8th cousins twice removed and listing them as WH Staff is criminal.

I still think Michelle and the Kids were on AF1 when it buzzed the NYC and the Statue of Liberty!

Island Girl November 10, 2013 at 1:13 am

Agree 100000%. They should stay ” home” for the holidays too…even though it seems they don’t appreciate living there.

Bear November 9, 2013 at 1:19 pm

Caddyshack locations, eh? I wonder what the Secret Service budgeted to sweep for IEDs.

gracepmc November 9, 2013 at 1:40 pm

OT but funny. Apparently this is some of the military response to Tom Cruise’s recent comment that acting is as tough as fighting in Afghanistan. From Jake Tapper twitter

AFVet November 9, 2013 at 2:02 pm

Put Cruise through basic training, any branch, doesn’t matter.
They used to have a height requirement.
Maybe he is referring to the shoes that he has to wear to make him appear taller than he really is.

Mandy Manners November 9, 2013 at 2:46 pm

I got to laughing so hard and long I started snorting!

Here’s an oldie, but goodie, for idiots who insult the military.

Susan November 9, 2013 at 1:54 pm

Boy that Cyrus Walker fellow sure gets around. He was Preezy’s golf buddy on the royal family’s 2010 Martha’s Vineyard vacation. Wonder where he fits in the scheme of things?

gracepmc November 9, 2013 at 3:03 pm

See Keith above. Cyrus Walker, cousin of ValJar.

Susan November 9, 2013 at 3:46 pm

I know, but the guy has to do something for a living. Something funded by US tax payers no doubt.

gracepmc November 9, 2013 at 6:04 pm

What makes you think that?

gracepmc November 9, 2013 at 6:15 pm

Susan — Now I am kind of curious. Info on the guy is hidden unless I want to take potshots at other Cyrus Walkers. However, it is interesting that is he played with Obama in Martha V. and now in Fl. — so do we transport him around in AF1 for golf dates or does he show up on his own nickel on demand.

Marcus November 9, 2013 at 6:26 pm

His job is to keep telling Obama, 24/7 he’s the greatest POTUS in the history of the United States, the best golfer there ever was, the most amazing, brilliant person since the dawn of time. It’s a tough job but someone, apparently, has to do it.

smmeyerson November 9, 2013 at 1:57 pm

It’s a pattern with this lazy man. He makes an appearance, says something useless then disappears into the sunset. Yesterday it was, gee, I’m so sorry you got screwed by my stupidity. Today, it is a day on the links to avoid backlash. Bad to the bone.

Michael November 9, 2013 at 2:11 pm

This for a guy who constantly says “it’s the right thing to do”.

The answer is simple…he just doesn’t care what Americans think about his constant self-indulgence.

lnadiab November 9, 2013 at 2:35 pm

So, what did 1 round of golf, including secret service, hotel rooms, meals, cost the taxpayers this time? Nice mini-vacation without the Moose,

Susan November 9, 2013 at 2:36 pm

OT: Drudge is linking to a Daily Mail article on a swooning Mooch. The good news is she is finally wearing sleeves. The bad news is all that swirling and twirling gave the classless cow the old sweaty armpit syndrome.

Lizzy November 9, 2013 at 3:22 pm

Not OT these two are delusional adults with no morals. Her actions and the pictures were an embarrassment to women
everywhere. They are both pathetic.

Julie Brueckheimer November 9, 2013 at 5:33 pm

Da diva.

Marcus November 9, 2013 at 6:30 pm

Who would be surprised to see The Mooch walk into the Hardcore Pawn store in Detroit and demand that the Golds purchase her broken CD player for $1,000? And then scream, swear and start punching people when they said “No, it’s worth about $5″.

Mandy Manners November 9, 2013 at 2:54 pm

Gingrich skwered FCMABBHO:

“I suddenly realized watching the two of them in such a short time – Clinton felt your pain….Obama would like you to feel his pain.”

“To be under our constitutional system, a president has to be able to work with Congress,” Gingrich continued. “Clinton understood this. He’d been a governor – he had spent 12 years dealing with legislatures. We would fight all morning and then we’d negotiate all afternoon.” What the current president does, Gingrich declared, is he “fights all morning, and then golfs.”

“He has zero capacity to understand the other person”, Gingrich explained. “You can’t learn the city of Washington from Mount Olympus.”

Girly1 November 9, 2013 at 3:17 pm

Just noticed ex-Trade Rep, Ron Kirk, is in the happy little foursome today. What’s up with that? He was huddled up with Obama on AF1 when they took their Africa trip a few months ago; he was playing golf with BO on MV; and now he’s in FLA? Supposedly he’s in the private sector now but I suspect Obama is using him in some capacity to turn out the Black/Hispanic vote in Texas next year. Nothing Obama does is on the up and up.

Mandy Manners November 9, 2013 at 3:32 pm

In a head-to-head matchup, Clinton would receive 57% of New Jersey Latinos votes and Christie would get 33%. The gap grows even wider with black voters: 86% said they would vote for Clinton, and just 5% would vote for Christie.

Girly1 November 9, 2013 at 4:36 pm

You’re probably right about NJ. Personally, I don’t care what happens in NJ – I’m not a Christie fan. But I do care what happens in Texas. Obama’s burning ambition is to turn Texas into deep Blue state. Kirk is a former Dallas mayor and it appears he and Obama are now BFFs. There is a fertile field of untapped Hispanics…’nuff said.

Mandy Manners November 9, 2013 at 5:05 pm

If Christie gets the nomination, I’ll vote for him. Sure, I’ll not be happy, but I’d rather have him than Clinton or whichever Prog the DNC nominates.

Julie Brueckheimer November 9, 2013 at 5:38 pm

Not i. When he first ran for governor, he attacked the unions, including the teachers unions, just as Scott Walker did in Wisconsin. But after he won, he catered to them to win reelection. Then, of course, there’s Sandy and his big betrayal of Romney. He’s a sell-out. Just because he has GOP after his name means nothing. I would vote for neither Clinton nor Christie. But he’s not going to make it past the primaries. : – ))

gracepmc November 9, 2013 at 6:03 pm

If Christie gets the nomination this is no longer a party I want to be a part of.

Mandy Manners November 9, 2013 at 6:38 pm

So ya’ll would be happy to sit back and let the Marxists completely take over this nation, because that is exactly what will happen if the DNC gets another term in the White House?

gracepmc November 9, 2013 at 6:59 pm

I didn’t say that. It was about Christie being nominated. I don’t think Christie can beat Clinton if she is the nominee. And if they run Warren

or somebody else I am not sure — maybe his chances would be better. Christie is not the one I would support as a nominee.

Mandy Manners November 9, 2013 at 8:00 pm

Neither would I. I’m not impressed with his appointing Sohail Mohammed. I don’t know for a fact if the judge believes Sharia law should replace the constitutional law, but there has been enough speculation to raise my hackles.

Julie Brueckheimer November 9, 2013 at 9:29 pm

Sorry, Mandy, you’re giving me a bad feeling. It’s the same thing all over again with the conservatives already thinking about conceding. It’s time the establishment conceded or at least negotiated.

Mandy Manners November 9, 2013 at 9:37 pm

It’s not about conceding. It’s about preventing another four or eight years with a Marxist in the White House.

I pray and hope that none of the justices on the Supreme Court resign before FCMABBHO is out of there, and that his nominations for the rest of the federal judiciary are held up in Congress. But, the thought of a Marxist being able to appoint federal judges–who serve for life, hence giving them extreme power–until 2020 or 2024 scares the hell out of me.

lizzytalorburton November 11, 2013 at 12:02 am

please wake up, yes, we should vote for Christie, anything is better than that Clinton woman! Please, please, stop the stupidity — get along and vote for Christie if he runs, otherwise, the country is over !!!! What is it nobody understands? We are on such shaky ground now –Christie could save the GOP if he runs, C’mon….don’t be stupid like the democrats.

LCDR M(Ret) November 9, 2013 at 5:11 pm

Nothing to see here. Let me be clear. Dear Leader is working endlessly, 24/7 to make sure that the American people are being taken care of. Period. Guaranteed 150%.

just-saying November 9, 2013 at 5:22 pm

I wish Obummer’d mess up his knee, like Tiger did…

Mandy Manners November 9, 2013 at 8:32 pm

Or maybe his shoulder so it’d screw up his back-swing.

gracepmc November 9, 2013 at 6:52 pm

OT again. But kind of funny. White guy sorta kinda campaigns as black guy and wins. Let’s hope he does a good job to drive the point home — character not color.

AZ Granny November 9, 2013 at 7:19 pm

He’s played only 39 rounds of golf this year? What a slacker! LOL

Bkhuna November 10, 2013 at 11:31 am

Meanwhile, another million or two is spent to send Chewbacca on a fundraiser.

Change you can deceive!

doug November 10, 2013 at 2:40 pm

What a d-bag you are.

Twitch November 10, 2013 at 2:22 pm

Obama is the new Emperor Nero, fiddling while Rome burns.

me November 10, 2013 at 2:36 pm

He’s taken less vacation days than the destroyer also known as GWB.

doug November 10, 2013 at 2:38 pm

Isn’t there something more important for you to concentrate on?

TNBlueDot November 10, 2013 at 2:56 pm

Seriously?? Pal, you need to get a life!
Since you are so into the details, how many vacation days did W take during his terms? The answer, since I’m sure you don’t know or care, is 543. President Obama will never meet or exceed that staggering record!

Darkangel November 10, 2013 at 3:36 pm

President Bush made a point of swearing off golf with troops in harm’s way. He played 24 rounds, total, in 8 years. Your boy is at 150, and at the rate he’s going, he’ll have played 10 times as much golf as Bush did if he finishes out his term (which is looking less and less likely).

As of about two months ago, total combat deaths in Afghanistan were 2,144. Of that, 1,575 have occurred since January 20, 2009.

That works out to about 73% of the deaths in Afghanistan coming on Obama’s watch.

Meanwhile, Egypt has been lost, Iran is dangerously close to getting the bomb, Syria is a godforsaken mess it took the RUSSIANS to bail us out of, our traditional alliances are getting decimated by the NSA snooping on allied heads of state, and Libya is…well…Benghazi, ’nuff said?

Domestically, Obama’s signature achievement, health care reform, is causing millions of Americans to lose their coverage. (I’m guessing you’re not one of them, or else you wouldn’t be on here defending this guy.) Obamacare has a strong claim to being the single largest act of fraud, in terms of dollars and cents, in American history. The website that was supposed to be the healthcare version of Rodeo Drive, looks more and more like the Sampoong Department Store.

And yet, on Obama golfs, seeming not to give two hoots in Hyde Park that the nation and the world are going down in flames.

Stefan November 10, 2013 at 8:01 pm

I’m so tired of politicians living the high life off of us. Career politicians. Both parties. People argue that we already have term limits and that people can vote them out of office. Sadly, we have uninformed, low information voters that keep voting them back in.

Ask yourself why someone spends millions of dollars for a job that pays less than 250k a year or 400k a year in the case of the potus.Because they get rich off of us while they are there. Look at the Clintons with their “501c3″s that they have created and raking in millions of dollars with. Cronyism, lies, cheating, stealing. Get rid of them all. It’ll never happen though….that’s what’s so depressing about it. /rant

lizzytalorburton November 10, 2013 at 11:52 pm

He doesn’t do any work — I betcha he writes nothing down on paper ever! He just grumbles along every day spouting lies and complaints about the other party and that it! And his work consists of fundraising parties, golf, hopping on and off the million dollar plane rides, vacations, and after all his hard work, ha, ha, he is still miserable and it shows in everything he says. He gives speeches at places where he feels safe and comfy only. Try a Republican State, Mr. President Coward! Never happen.

tiffanytsmith November 11, 2013 at 5:37 am

good post

Junius November 11, 2013 at 3:19 pm

Just wait until the waning days of this regime’s time in office, (provided of course Dictator Obama doesn’t issue a presidential decree allowing himself to run for another term). Dictator Obama and Queen Moochelle will take their lavish expenditures at taxpayer’s expense to obscene heights, especially our First Entitlement Queen, Moochelle.
These two grifters will make the Roman Emperors and the French monarchy look like a bunch of pikers. Watch out and hold on to your wallet. April 20, 2014 at 12:23 pm
