As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

Sebelius: We Needed 5/8 the Time as it Took to Reach the Moon

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius contended in an interview with CNN’s Sanjay Gupta that the administration needed five years to build the Obamacare website, just a few years less than it took America to land a man on the moon.

We talked about having testing going forward, and if we had an ideal situation and could have built a product and, you know, a five-year period of time, we probably would have taken five years but we didn’t have five years.

On May 25, 1961, John F. Kennedy announced before a special joint session of Congress the goal of landing a man on the moon by the end of the decade. Eight years later, on July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 fulfilled the mission.

FIVE YEARS TO BUILD A WEBSITE? A team of a couple dozen monkeys typing randomly on keyboards could probably have accidentally designed healthcare.gov in that amount of time.

In the interview, Sebelius tried to protect President Obama, suggesting he was not aware of the problems with the website before the launch.

Oops, bad idea. In trying to immunize the president, she made him look like a foolish chief executive who wasn’t getting the information he needed. White House Press Secertary Jay Carney was forced to clean that up, saying that the president indeed expected some problems – just like everyone in the administration did – just not a certifiable meltdown.

Secretary Sebelius was referring to what I have said and what the president himself has said, which is that while we knew that there would be some glitches . . . we did not know until the problems manifested themselves after the launch that they would be as significant as they have turned out to be . . . we did not expect – and by we I mean broadly, the administration – did not expect the scale of problems that we have seen.

The problem for the White House is that ultimately the buck stops with the president. This was not just a website, it was the cornerstone of his signature initiative. Even if he wants to fire Sebelius, he can’t because she knows exactly how attentive or inattentive to this process he was, and he needs her to go out there and take the blame for him.

Here’s Gupta’s interview with Sebelius. He calmly asked her questions to which she had no answer and could only happy talk about how wonderful Obamacare is, minus the website.

  1. No need to list all the lies and promises. I checked a legal dictionary for a simplistic definition.

His signature piece of legislation is a forgery. Period.

FORGERY. The act of criminally making or altering a written instrument for the purpose of fraud or deceit.

Forgery also automatically becomes a federal offense if a forged document is carried or mailed across interstate lines, or if the forgery occurs in multiple states.

  2. “Other than the website, it’s a pretty good program” is just about the same thing as “Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?”

  3. I have to admit, I’m enjoying this, watching these Marxist elitists squirming, lying, and twisting in the wind. I regret the short term pain to my fellow Americans, but this liberal and presidential signature “achievement” failure could be the very catalyst that allows us to get the tyrannical boot off my throats. Following politics is fun again :-).

      • For sure, I was watching Manchin and O’Reilly talking about fixing Obamacare; you CAN’T fix Obamacare! Oh sure, you could probably get the website working but you’re still left with that dung-heap Marxist command-and-control communist redistribute the wealth abomination of a bill.

BTW, what’s the story with O’Reilly? Is he a RINO or a democrat in disguise?

  4. OMG, the volume again. This is like the Obamacare version of the Benghazi video. It’s just not so.

I would love to hear Sibelius say, “After all…what difference does it make”?

“Waiting is not an option”? What a clueless, irresponsible thing to say.

Sibelius can spin until she falls over from diziness…her stewardship of Obamacare was criminally negligent.

  5. Volume overload? I guess so. The system was designed for a paltry 50-60 thousand simultaneous users. There were 250K ‘unique’ shoppers in the first few days. The WH opted for the website developer’s ‘Bronze Plan’ – a $550M premium with a $1B deductible.

Subsidies are not available for browsers. You must go the ‘Enroll’ section to find out what your subsidy is, if any. Shades of Pelosi.

  6. What do you expect from our learned representatives ?
One stipulates that Guam might tip over and another questions why we can’t send the Mars rovers over to take pictures of the flags that the astronauts left there.
These people are overburdened everyday by the dire responsibilities that they must attend to to keep themselves in office !
Their constituents are relentless in calling their offices and the poor staff members are exhausted.
We however are removed from that drivel.
That’s why we have a staff.
What,…you want us to answer the phone ???
    HAH !

  7. Today Rush said “we’re living the movie ‘Idiocracy’. We’re in the middle of it.”

I think I’ll watch that movie tonight to see how the nightmare ends.

  8. ” A team of a couple dozen monkeys typing randomly on keyboards could have probably have accidentally designed healthcare.gov in that amount of time “.
Recall reading somewhere that if you put 10,000 monkeys with the same amount of typewriters, lock them in a room, sooner or later, one of them will write Gone With the Wind.

  9. When asked why they went forward despite the problems, she didn’t answer his question, just went on a tangent about how people are so anxious about getting healthcare.

  10. Sebelius is flailing, flop sweating all over the place, preparing herself for the sacrificial offering the Obama administration is demanding of her as a loyal member of the Obama cult.

  11. Sebelius is protected because she is one of Obama’s favorites as one of the most ardent fans of abortion and defender of baby killer Dr. (sic) George Tiller.

Obama loves the most evil and vile people on this planet and has filled his administration with them.
