As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

“I think one possible compromise might be to leave the debt ceiling where it is but create a debt attic over it.”

– Vice President Joe Biden

  1. How does JB breathe without instruction? If the WH Portuguese Water Spaniels were male, they would water this fire hydrant vice-president. No, a fire hydrant has tremendous worth; this decaying tree stump.

  2. ol’Joe might have something there. We could just start another ‘debt’, like applying for a different credit card when you hit the limit on one.

    • Hey, that’s a great idea. Maybe we could transfer the balance of our debt from China to some other creditor, say Russia or Canada or someone. Maybe the UAE. At 0% interest for 12 months. Then next year, we can do it again. And again. Maybe if the entire country enrolls in college full time, we can get a deferment on our loans!

See, it’s this kind of out-of-the box thinking we need in Washington.

      • I was wondering if we could dispense with this debt ceiling stuff–but on the condition that we go back to a budget, hearings on programs in relevant committees (not just in a scandal), authorizations, appropriations, conference committees, etc. You know–a rational budget cycle.

  3. Very funny Keith but Bidens suggestion is actually a fine example of the inventive doublespeak that is this administrations trademark.
Well, there will be a temporary agreement of sorts and the world sigh from relief as we stumble along but these constant dramas may be Obamas “death by 1000 knifecuts”, or whatever that horrific Chinese method was called. His weakness, his lack of leadership, his meanness, his political methods are there for the world to see. And a drama will happen again and again when a new agreement is needed. I think even slow Europeans now can see that the disfunction in Washington isn´t just because of the Republicans ( well, my own opinion is that it´s because of Obama ) even if they mostly rely on NYT, WP, CNN. I have read many, many negative Obama comments by now. What we clearly see is that a nation cannot live beyond it´s means and that the leadership must prioritize and then giant welfarereforms of any kind must at least wait. Europe has enormous problems with the Greeks who got themselves a far too generous welfaresystem on other countries money.

  4. Why even bother with a debt limit if our illustrious leaders aren’t going to make an effort to abide by it? If Washington, D.C. was a corporation, 99% of the bozos running it would have been fired years ago.

  5. And where the heck is Biden? He has been kept under wraps the last couple of weeks. Maybe he is using Dick Cheney’s ‘undisclosed location’.
