As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

Obama Dials Up Boehner

President Obama called House Speaker John Boehner Friday evening to mess with him, since, as Obama said earlier in the day, the Republicans are messing with him.

From Politico:

The Ohio Republican’s office said the president called to say “he wouldn’t negotiate with him on the debt limit.”

“Given the long history of using debt limit increases to achieve bipartisan deficit reduction and economic reforms, the speaker was disappointed but told the president that the two chambers of Congress will chart the path ahead,” a Boehner aide said in an email. “It was a brief call.”

A White House official said Obama spoke to both Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
“The President telephoned Speaker Boehner and told him again that the full faith and credit of the United States should not and will not be subject to negotiation,” the official said in a statement provided to POLITICO. “The President reiterated that it is the constitutional responsibility of the US Congress to pass the nation’s budget and pay the nation’s bills.”

My thinking is they wanted to get this phone call out of the way Friday night because both have tee times Saturday morning.

  1. It’s still amazing to me that Democrats do not yet understand who Mr. Obama is and what he represents.

Apparently, they are willing to ride the administration’s agenda straight through to the end. Do they actually doubt that the administration will reduce the U.S. economy to rubble?

    • They’re following the tradition of supporting the President of their party at their own peril now.
The Repubs are right; Americans don’t want Obamacare, nor do they want the government to shut down.

The Dems find themselves having to choose between party loyalty, and their own political futures. Some of the Dems are dependent on organized labor support that has made it clear they don’t want Obamacare and demanded that the very people they helped get elected do something about it.

It’s settled then – both of them are teed off.

  3. So, let me get this straight…
Obama called Boehner just to tell him he’s not going to speak with him about this and his mind is made up?

Couldn’t he just have called Pelosi and told her to tell Boehnner they aren’t on speaking terms?
I wonder, did the little brat stick his tongue out as well?

    • “Couldn’t he just have called Pelosi and told her to tell Boehnner they aren’t on speaking terms?”

Nancy would’ve had to call Harry, Dicky and Chucky first to talk about how meeeeeen Johnny’s being to their bestest friend Barry.

“OMG! Like, how mean! I can’t like believe Johnny’s like doing this to our BFF Barry!”

  4. If he can be “flexible” with Russia with our Nation’s defense, negotiate with Syria over the use of WMD, and offer a compromise with Iran over their nuclear capacity, then he can damn well negotiate with the Repubicans in Congress over the future of our country.

None of this is about him, not one bit. Our country does not provide any President with dictatorial powers to have every wish obeyed or to have have every program he would like to be enacted as law. MrObama, and some Dems in Congress, are hoping for a government shutdown they can blame on the Repubs in 2014, but like all chancey plans, this one might not have the outcome they desire.
Just as they hoped to use the sequestration as a hammer to damage the Repubs and failed, any government shutdown will be seen by the public as the only tool the Repubs have to control spending in Washington.

But, if it’s about “sworn enemies”, the ONLY people he EVER publically called “enemy” were the Republicans!

Obama doesn’t like America. Never did, never has, and never will. So he is, in fact, refusing to negotiate with HIS enemy!

And remember, our country doesn’t negotiate with “terrorists”. It’s true! Of course, the ONLY folks that Democrats call “terrorists” are in the Tea Party…

It’s not just elected officials. From 4/26/12, this WSJ article details how he’s gone after private citizens:

Try this thought experiment: You decide to donate money to Mitt Romney. You want change in the Oval Office, so you engage in your democratic right to send a check.

Several days later, President Barack Obama, the most powerful man on the planet, singles you out by name.

        SNIP

This past week, one of his campaign websites posted an item entitled “Behind the curtain: A brief history of Romney’s donors.” In the post, the Obama campaign named and shamed eight private citizens who had donated to his opponent. Describing the givers as all having “less-than-reputable records,” the post went on to make the extraordinary accusations that “quite a few” have also been “on the wrong side of the law” and profiting at “the expense of so many Americans.”

These are people like Paul Schorr and Sam and Jeffrey Fox, investors who the site outed for the crime of having “outsourced” jobs. T. Martin Fiorentino is scored for his work for a firm that forecloses on homes. Louis Bacon (a hedge-fund manager), Kent Burton (a “lobbyist”) and Thomas O’Malley (an energy CEO) stand accused of profiting from oil. Frank VanderSloot, the CEO of a home-products firm, is slimed as a “bitter foe of the gay rights movement.”

These are wealthy individuals, to be sure, but private citizens nonetheless. Not one holds elected office. Not one is a criminal. Not one has the barest fraction of the position or the power of the U.S. leader who is publicly assaulting them.

    • He could just say, OK, this is not quite ready to roll out (huge job, the biggest since the pyramids, Geo Bush did something that made it slower), so I will wait a year so we can iron out these difficulties. People have no idea, I maintain, that they have to pay for this insurance and it will have such high copays and deductibles, they won’t be able to use it. Also it won’t be name companies in many of the exchanges–Moline was one name I read–do you want Moline insurance?

  5. “The Ohio Republican’s office said the president called to say “he wouldn’t negotiate with him on the debt limit.”

Why do I get the image of a toddler refusing to “make some pooh” for his mommy? I bet he stomped his widdle feetsies, too.

  6. Obama’s like a clueless college freshman who ran up his parent’s credit card debt then whined to his equally clueless friends when his parents take the card away.

  7. They sound like a couple of Tweens. I am calling you to tell you I am not going to call you or take your call.

It cracks me up that PrezBO is out there predicting gloom and doom if the Government shits down. His gloom and doom predictions over his sequester scheme did not occur.

I hope the Republicans don’t cave. It will be the end of their party.

  8. It must have been an emotional phone call for Weepy John. They posted flash flood warnings here in SW Ohio last night…

Seriously, though, we do have to give props to Boehner for at least making the gesture of, you know, not being the RINO Yes Man doormat he usually is, even if he’s been basically forced to it. Now, let’s see what backroom deal he makes to get out of it…

Or maybe he’s trying to do a Putin and give Obama a way out of another one of his impossibly incompetent messes? Obama himself knows Obamacare won’t work, that’s why he keeps illegally suspending this and exempting that to get past the next election. The West Chester Weeper may just be trying to save his favorite Prezzy from himself, maybe with a plan to switch parties once Prezzy uses it to excorate Republicans for the next election. Although maybe Sob-by John B needs to google “Arlen Specter” to see what the usual Democrat reward is for turncoat Republicans…

Sorry, it’s tough to take the Speaker seriously. He’s caved like a Chilean copper mine on SO much of Obama’s wish list so far, that he’s really earned some skepticism. Maybe once he starts spending less of his day slapping down conservatives and more of his day slapping down The Man Who Would Be Caliph, it might be easier to believe him. Right now, were I his boss, the best I could say to him would be, “We appreicate you doing the job you were hired to do, but you must see it through to the end, if you want to survive your next review. Your performance has been very spotty to date, so I welcome the improvement, but you need to understand that we have higher expectations of you EVERY day, not just occasionally. If you can continue to avoid disappointing us, you may yet be able to regain our faith and keep your job.”

I don’t live in his district, so I’m NOT his boss; but seeing as how we have a President that doesn’t listen to AT LEAST 47% of the population, I’d say we’re ALL pretty used to being ignored by politicicans by now…

      • I don’t trust these RINO weasels one bit. They are unprincipled backstabbers who are so afraid of confronting Preezy Revenge they’d turn on their own grandparents if he told them to. We need to watch them like hawks.

      • Unfortunately, no real opposition to Boehner has materialized yet. Last year, the Tea Party ran a guy who’s main plank was abortion, which just wasn’t that important to those voters, so it went nowhere. This year, there’s a newbie running against him who probably isn’t a bad guy, but has ZERO name recognition and a real job, so he probably won’t be able to play against the Establishment choice.

And, to my South, don’t look for McConnell to go anywhere. He’s pretty sucessfully painted Matt Bevin as a bailout champion who lied about his taxes, resume, and most everything else, and he’s so comfortable he’s demolished him at this point that he’s switched to running ads against the Democrat challenger instead.
        http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/slugfest-in-kentucky-mcconnell-versus-bevin-part-2/2013/07/25/7c6faea0-f57c-11e2-aa2e-4088616498b4_blog.html
And, as you might expect, he’s WAY more respectful and nice about the Democrat than he was the conservative. I guess he just agrees with here more…

Anyway, sorry I don’t have better news, but right now it doesn’t look like there’s going to be any change in Republican “leadership” from this part of the world. G_d will get them in the end, but they look to have a comfy political career in the mean time – just as long as Obama considers them useful, that is…

        • “…no real opposition to Boehner has materialized yet. Last year, the Tea Party ran a guy …” – Cincycinco

No, I mean Boehner’s last ELECTION, not last YEAR! Much as I WISH we could take out the trash EVERY year…

  9. ““The President telephoned Speaker Boehner and told him again that the full faith and credit of the United States should not and will not be subject to negotiation,” the official said in a statement provided to POLITICO. “The President reiterated that it is the constitutional responsibility of the US Congress to pass the nation’s budget and pay the nation’s bills.”” – Unnamed WH shill

REALLY? Even when it would be UNPATRIOTIC to do so?!?

“The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents – #43 added $4 trillion by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back — $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That’s irresponsible. It’s unpatriotic.” – Barry Soetoro

You know, the only bill they’re refusing to pay is the one that the CBO says will cost trillions more that the alternative anyway, http://www.cbo.gov/publication/43471, destroying our economy and general and our health care system in particular, among other reasons by driving doctors out of the practice of medicine.
    http://dailycaller.com/2012/07/09/report-83-percent-of-doctors-have-considered-quitting-over-obamacare/

THAT must be stopped before your boss finishes his destruction of America. It doesn’t even matter if he’s destroying it out of ignorance or hatred at this point, either way we’re done for if we don’t stop it.

And THAT is TRULY not negotiable…

  10. the president called to say “he wouldn’t negotiate with him on the debt limit.”Then there’s nothing else to discuss. If the President is not willing to yield on anything, then why should Boehner? Kudos to the GOP for finally growing a pair.

  11. The democrats care nothing about what the American people want, just want their ideological stupid way and they don’t care that people are either losing their jobs or working part-time which doesn’t help pay the rent or put food on the table. These politicians have always worked part-time so as Hillary Clinton said: “What difference at this time does it make?”. What a bunch of loonies, democrats like Pelosi still living in the 1960’s. Can’t wait until they’re all gone, we don’t need these old hippies running our government. When will the low I.Q’s realize that? Will their brains actually realize that? I don’t think so. Goodbye America as we knew it! They voted for a low I.Q. President and they got one just like themselves.
