President Obama spent Wednesday schmoozing with Brian L. Roberts, Chairman and CEO of the Comcast Corporation, which owns NBCUniversal and its news division, the avidly pro-Obama MSNBC.
The two played golf together from late morning through much of the afternoon, and then afterward the president and Mrs. Obama headed over to Roberts’ secluded Martha’s Vineyard estate for a couple of hours of socializing before dinner.
The president was with Roberts as controversy swirls over NBC’s plan to produce what is expected to be a hagiography of Hillary Clinton. The RNC has threatened to forbid MSNBC from hosting a GOP primary debate if the project goes ahead.
Roberts himself donates overwhelmingly to Democrats and is a supporter of Obamacare.
Also on the links with the president at Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown, Mass., is Jim Kim, president of the World Bank, and Ron Kirk, the former Obama U.S. Trade Representative and frequent Obama golf buddy who is known for not having negotiated a single new trade agreement during his four years in the post.
The outing marked the third time Obama has gone golfing since he arrived on Martha’s Vineyard late Saturday. It’s the 26th time he has been out this year and 137th round of his presidency.
