Obama Spends Day With MSNBC’s Boss

by Keith Koffler on August 14, 2013, 2:48 pm

Updated Thursday at 6:57 am ET

President Obama spent Wednesday schmoozing with Brian L. Roberts, Chairman and CEO of the Comcast Corporation, which owns NBCUniversal and its news division, the avidly pro-Obama MSNBC.

The two played golf together from late morning through much of the afternoon, and then afterward the president and Mrs. Obama headed over to Roberts’ secluded Martha’s Vineyard estate for a couple of hours of socializing before dinner.

The president was with Roberts as controversy swirls over NBC’s plan to produce what is expected to be a hagiography of Hillary Clinton. The RNC has threatened to forbid MSNBC from hosting a GOP primary debate if the project goes ahead.

Roberts himself donates overwhelmingly to Democrats and is a supporter of Obamacare.

Also on the links with the president at Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown, Mass., is Jim Kim, president of the World Bank, and Ron Kirk, the former Obama U.S. Trade Representative and frequent Obama golf buddy who is known for not having negotiated a single new trade agreement during his four years in the post.

The outing marked the third time Obama has gone golfing since he arrived on Martha’s Vineyard late Saturday. It’s the 26th time he has been out this year and 137th round of his presidency.

Nero playing the fiddle as Rome burns. Obama, as Nero, started the fire.

DMcG August 14, 2013 at 2:54 pm

Any “normal” politician would be castigated for conflicts of interest this flagrant. But the pompous Obama just grins and moves forward. What does he care? No rules apply to him. Reid has his back; there won’t be any impeachment trial on Reid’s watch, the House knows it, and so Obama is safe to flout any law that seems inconvenient.

What a national embarassment.

Explain “family vacation” to me again ? Except for a house crammed with friends, a dinner out (with friends) and a cocktail party (with friends), where’s the quality family time? Will they be rolling out the bikes for some photo ops soon? Ice cream and book stores too?

Poor pool, they seem to all be stuck in ” vans down by the river” :D

Julie Brueckheimer August 14, 2013 at 3:21 pm

This is second hand, but I read that the NYT was characterizing this vacation as a ‘romantic’ one which I gather means Mr. and Mrs. O sans daughters. He doesn’t seem to be spending much time with her though.

Bonnie August 14, 2013 at 3:35 pm

The girls are smarter than I ever gave them credit for being, they are not there. He does not spend any time with either FLOTUS or the girls. This is not a real family it is a FINO. For the uninitiated, Family in Name Only.

Julie Brueckheimer August 14, 2013 at 4:26 pm

Good one.

Otis Driftwood August 14, 2013 at 7:45 pm

have the girls even arrived yet from camp??

Lizzy August 14, 2013 at 3:47 pm

Sadly these are rich sycophantic Obama followers I truly don’t think
they have any friends unless they’re store bought and paid for with our
money of course.

Otis Driftwood August 14, 2013 at 7:43 pm

The pool has to be very careful Denise or they might be driven to a special reenactment of a bridge accident that happened on MV.

Troy C August 14, 2013 at 3:05 pm

Has this Commie spent more than 10 minutes with his children on this vacation?

AFVet August 14, 2013 at 3:15 pm

If the girls were smart, they would avoid him.

srdem65 August 14, 2013 at 3:23 pm

They’re teenagers. Teenagers are ashamed of their parents and don’t want to be seen with them or even be in the same room with them. Parents are old, boring, and don’t “get it”.
It’s universal behaviour.

Mandy Manners August 14, 2013 at 3:33 pm

You took the words right off of my keyboard! It’s not happened to my son yet, but at 13, he’ll get there one day soon.

ImNoDhimmi August 15, 2013 at 7:44 am

In my experience, daughters have stronger symptoms of “parents are stupid” syndrome than sons. At least mine did.

AFVet August 14, 2013 at 3:35 pm

I have wondered if they allowed access to the internet.
It would be interesting to find out what they are allowed to view.

Star August 14, 2013 at 6:04 pm

I think their mother said once no Facebook.

KmikeB August 14, 2013 at 4:32 pm

You don’t have to be a teenager to be ashamed of Barry, any body of any age is ashamed of Barry.

Julie Brueckheimer August 14, 2013 at 3:16 pm

So, what to call this: conflict of interest, crony capitalism, collusion, no freedom of the press?

srdem65 August 14, 2013 at 3:34 pm

I’d call it a strategy meeting. MrO will tell the CEO of NBC what he wants aired on Obamacare, NSA, and everything else.
The CEO of NBC will respond with “Whatever you say, boss, consider it done”.

Just an aside here: MrO seems to be OCD with golf, or at least a maniac who can’t think of anything else to do with his spare time. His leisure time always seems to involve competion with other men.
Men in stressful positions should have solitary pursuits or hobbies such as stamp collecting, or writing their memoirs, or even sitting on a small boat with a fishing pole in their hands.

Shofar August 14, 2013 at 3:39 pm

I wonder if it is more like the CEO of Comcast telling Obama what to do. With the media being as in the tank as they are, I am beginning to wonder if they are not pulling the strings of the puppet, and getting their orders from a “higher” source.

scottso August 14, 2013 at 4:31 pm

I hope the President is able to convince the Comcast CEO to create a network, let’s say a pseudo news network that is favorable to the President and continue funding it even if there are no ratings.

AFVet August 14, 2013 at 3:46 pm

I think he’s trying to live the life that he was denied.
Lousy golfer, throws like a girl, loves all the attention from pro-teams, etc. etc.
Poor man.

Otis Driftwood August 14, 2013 at 10:50 pm

Actually BO is not the boss. I have a feeling the CEO visited ValJar before visiting Sir Putts-a-Lot and already had his marching orders.

gracepmc August 14, 2013 at 3:17 pm

In your face America. Because he can.

AFVet August 14, 2013 at 3:40 pm

I agree grace.
I am tired of him poking his finger in our eye.

Julie Brueckheimer August 14, 2013 at 4:29 pm

Greta Van S covered that photo of him on the golf course, the one I thought made him look like a drum majorette. On the big screen it seemed indeed that Obama was showing us his behind.

Susan August 14, 2013 at 3:37 pm

Fine example of the Ruling Class versus the Country Class. I’ve posted this article before but it’s always worth a repeat on an occasion like this…

scottso August 14, 2013 at 4:07 pm

thanks again susan

Julie Brueckheimer August 14, 2013 at 4:31 pm

I’d never seen it before–thanks!

Star August 14, 2013 at 6:02 pm

Tweety will be all tingly again.

Lizzytalorburton August 15, 2013 at 12:53 am

I swear, Obama plays golf for spite now, ’cause he knows it gets to us. ITS LIKE WE HAVE A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT FOR PRESIDENT???

bobby99 August 15, 2013 at 12:57 am

Reggie Love now says he and Obama were playing cards (spades) in another room during the Osama raid. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2393832/Obama-personal-aide-Reggie-Love-says-president-played-cards-bin-Laden-raid.html Reggie might want to look up the names Donald Young and Louis “larry” Bland. They were 2 of Obama’s other “special friends” back in 2007. Neither of them ever saw New years Day 2008.
