As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

“Mayor Bloomberg just called, he wanted to talk about all the lobsters walking around Little Italy. I’m sorry, the mobsters walking around Little Italy. Must have the Vineyard on my mind.”

– Barack Obama

  1. I had quite a rant going but it has drifted off to cyberspace and no doubt is at my NSA handler Shirley’s box as we speak.

There is a piece circulating by Keith Williamson , NR. He suggests Obama knows what he is doing, and is seeing how far he can test the limits, but has made it clear that he will not be defined by anything so trivial the law.

What was interesting to me was this assessment:

But the United States is not going to fall for a strongman government. Instead of delegating power to a would-be president-for-life, we delegate it to a bureaucracy-without-death. You do not need to install a dictator when you’ve already had a politically supercharged permanent bureaucracy in place for 40 years or more. As is made clear by everything from campaign donations to the IRS jihad, the bureaucracy is the Left, and the Left is the bureaucracy. Elections will be held, politicians will come and go, but if you expand the power of the bureaucracy, you expand the power of the Left, of the managers and minions who share Barack Obama’s view of the world. Barack Obama isn’t the leader of the free world; he’s the front man for the permanent bureaucracy, the smiley-face mask hiding the pitiless yawning maw of total politics.

Given that the Republicans cannot see their way clear to challenge, eradicate, defund or repeal Obamacare I don’t hold out much hope as that will permeate every thread in America’s fabric. Let it stand and we will lose all liberty.

If this is too depressing an outlook Victor Davis Hanson has a rather more optimistic scenario bouncing around.

To me what was most interesting was this assessment:

    • Grace, I don’t know if you’re coming back to this thread, but I have had some unsettling thoughts about the GOP and Obamacare. One, we know that they have voted and gone along with Obama’s illegal exemption of the small business mandate which now gives it the blessing of legality because Congress is the entity which can change a law. They did this under the ruse that they would postpone the individual mandate too, but this did not pass the House. So, one, business off the hook, taxpayer still on the hook.

Two, Obama has exempted Congress and their staffs now too. Is that illegal? Are they saying anything? Nooooooooooooo. Are they apparently going to accept the exemption for themselves? Yeeeeeeees. So, two, Congress off the hook, taxpayer on the hook for themselves and for Congress.

Do they (GOP) really think we can’t see through what they’re condoning, the big fighters for the middle class?

    • I read the article and feel very sad about our country. We are spiraling downward and I feel helpless to do anything to stop it.
