Kathleen Sebelius – former President Kansas Trial Lawyers’ Assn.
**This is not a real quote**
You had me going for a moment, Girly1. Here’s a quote from her in 2009:
“I think I’m just the person to do it because I think I understand the system of litigation very well. I understand that we want to, as the President has always said, compensate injured victims, but the defensive medicine is not helpful to the overall cost in the system. The best opportunity is to raise the quality of care and lower medical errors, so there are lots of strategies we can put in place.”
I want to be able to sue doctors who hurt me. So sue me! I looked into suing the doctor who waited days to repair my detached retina, leading to three more disgusting surgeries and now blindness in my right eye, The lawyers said I didn’t make enough money to make their percentage profitable–esp since expert eye witnesses were expensive. So this suing thing is not as easy as it sounds. If doctors do tests and you accept those tests, it may be to the good. You don’t have to take multiple CT scans, etc., you know.
Your problem was partially caused by tort reform I believe. When states limit damages, attorneys must carefully weigh costs. They must pay upfront out of pocket for the expenses including witnesses. The medical community also charges exorbitant fees for reproducing medical records. They hope to collect their expenses when they win the case. The plaintiff does not pay upfront in most cases. Consider the risk benefit analysis the attorneys must make. Isn’t it unfortunate that the medical community doesn’t at least warrant their work the way, say, plumbers often do? I’ll bet you paid for that crappy medical care, am I right? Perhaps through your insurance? Do you see a problem?
So we have tort reform? I thought we didn’t and some people wanted it.
Not when fully implemented due to sovereign immunity. When all doctors are employees of the government, they will be protected from suit.
Anytime you see a headline like this, it’s time to sound the alarms:
“Scientific panel urges stricter definition of Cancer
With the onset of Obamacare this looks like a sinister plot to downplay the seriousness of cancer in order to cut back on testing and treatment. My hinky meter went off last year when the AMA came out and recommended mammograms once every two years instead of the traditional once a year. We are sheep being led to the slaughter!
God forbid this epic boondoggle ever gets fully implemented and all
the players brainwashed into participating. People will die all you need to do is read any British paper and there are horror stories everyday. The
elderly seem most at risk (thanks AARP) so Obama’s legacy could very
well be a deadly one but as he has no conscience who will get the blame
I wonder. Nobody in his administration is ever held to account and they never will be very scary.
