A letter laced with the poison ricin and addressed to President Obama was discovered at a remote White House mail facility, according to reports. A similar missive, apparently from the same source, was also sent to Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.).
Each letter contained the same cryptic note: “To see a wrong and not expose it, is to become a silent partner to its continuance. I am KC and I approve this message.”
The general unease prompted bolstered security throughout the capital.
Armed guards were out in force at possible targets around Washington, and security was beefed up at the White House and on Capitol Hill. “Groups of police were on nearly every corner along Pennsylvania Avenue all the way to the front of the U.S. Capitol,” reported the Washington Post.
There were also reports of suspicious packages and envelopes at two Senate office buildings this morning.
