Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano opposes a “trigger” that would require securing the border – at least to some defined point – before allowing a pathway for illegal immigrants.
According to the Huffington Post:
“I think that once people really look at the whole system and how it works, relying on one thing as a so-called ‘trigger’ is not the way to go,” she said at a Christian Science Monitor event. “There needs to be some kind of certainty in the bill so that people can know when they can legalize and then when the pathway to citizenship, earned citizenship, will open up.”
The White House has been coy on whether President Obama would support such a trigger, which would be a key component of any deal that wants to attract Republicans. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney Tuesday dodged a question about whether Obama agrees with Napolitano.
Let’s face it, Democrats want blanket amnesty, to be repeated by another blanket amnesty in 25 years, just like this one would be a repeat of the 1986 amnesty. If they can ram it through before taking time to secure the border, they will. After all, why throw away all those Democratic voters pouring in from South of the Border?
Like Napolitano said at the same breakfast, Arizona is set to turn purple and then blue – just like Nevada, New Mexico and Colorado – as low-wage Latino immigrants pile in to pull the lever for Democrats. California is long gone for the Republicans, and Democrats are even salivating at the thought of picking up Texas one day soon.
Sure, most Democrats probably believe immigration reform is good policy. But they are also building a Dr. Frankenstein laboratory for minting live new Democratic voters.
