Kerry Commends Abbas on His Tie

Secretary of State John Kerry showed off to the world his subtle diplomatic skills today when he complimented Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on his tie.

Abbas today wearing his killer tie
Abbas earlier today sporting his killer tie

“Nice tie, Mr. President,” Kerry said as he, Abbas and President Obama waited for the press to be rolled in to witness a pre-meeting photo op at the Muqata Presidential Compound in Ramallah.

No, this is not satire.

It takes knowledge not only of international relations and Palestinian sensibilities but a real sense of fashion to come up with such a line. I can’t imagine than any of the world’s great diplomats, from Talleyrand to Kissinger, would have been able to produce such pitch-perfect insincere flattery.

There was no word on the response from Abbas, who was not really known as a style icon until today. No doubt JC Penney and The Tie Barn will be sold out of Mr. Abbas’s neckpiece within hours.

So Kerry, who recently dreamed up the country of Kyrzakhstan, is off to a good start solving the Middle East peace crisis.

  1. Keith, don’t say “killer tie” to a guy with blood on his hands like Abbas does.

Of course it would have been great if Kerry was doing a Rodney Dangerfield impression from Candyshack:
Al Czervik [Dangerfield]: Oh, this is the worst-looking hat I ever saw. What, when you buy a hat like this I bet you get a free bowl of soup, huh?
[looks at Judge Smails, who’s wearing the same hat]
Al Czervik: Oh, it looks good on you though.

  2. We should remember that to Obama / Kerry / Napolitano there are no terrorists, there is no war on terrorism, and there can be no victors or losers.

    Thus: “Nice tie”.

  3. Perhaps there is some secret diplomatic ploy at play here when the Sec of State admires another man’s tie. Such an odd comment would confuse the tie wearer and demean him at the same time. Clever.

Or, SoSKerry is just another Dem political hack in way over his head and prone to verbal gaffes like so many others in the Obama administration.

      • Wouldn’t doubt if they’re first cousins. There is a lot of intermarriage among the ruling class. Even PM Netanyahu noticed the incestuous relationship between Preezy Revenge and his lapdogs in the press. Can’t get much more incestuous than the brother of his chief foreign policy speechwriter running CBS News. That’s probably how his chief foreign policy speechwriter still has a job, because it sure isn’t because of his speech writing skills.

  4. No doubt Mr. Abbas has Mrs. Arafat shopping for him in Paris thanks to the billions she and her now dead / exhumed husband stole from the Palestinian people.

  5. Kerry is an embarrassment to me personally, and he will be an embarrassment to the whole country in short time. The man is an immature person who has never really had any responsibility for even himself. The Democrat party is full of a bunch of juvenile delinquents, and the citizens of this country aren’t mature enough to know it. They just keep electing them to office.

  6. Clearly, John Kerry’s mother, Theresa Heinz, did not raise him right. Send this little boy home and make him sit in the corner.

    “Why the long face, John?”
    –Sarah Palin.

  7. John Kerry and his tie remark is nothing compared to what OUR President said to the world today.
“There was a time when my daughters did not have the same opportunities as somebody else’s daughters”: Obama cites America’s racially-divided past as he urges Palestinian leader Abbas to return to peace talks with Israelis~~ just when was that, Mr. President? Could you give us just one example?

I am so angry, how dare you go overseas and talk about MY Great Country like this~~~Our President’s daughters have always been daughters of privilege (deluxe vacations, private schools etc.). In contrast millions of Americans have no choice for their daughters, precisely because of Obama’s policies which limit our freedoms in so many areas of life. I have had enough of this man.
p.s. One question Mr. President “How do you feel about Sharia Law??”.

  8. OK… Jon EFFEN Carry is more pathetic than even FACT FREE BIZZARROBAMA…What aFreaking IDIOT we got… Hillary was Stuoid, and a Coward and a liar… this Cro Magnon type is just STUCK on IDIOT!

  9. Kerry does think ties are important. He wore a green tie on his own trip to the ME a few weeks ago, green, the beloved color of Islam an jihad. Maybe he thinks Abbas was wearing a blue tie as a nice nod to Israel. Not. It’s amazing how such small time pr moves are so important to this bunch. That’s all they have. No policy.

  10. Does NO ONE in Obama’s adminstration have a protocol assistant ? Whenever I read about someone overseas (especially the first family) gaffing it up, I see no hints of preparation for the country they’re visiting. It reflects poorly on own country :(

  11. Kissinger, US intelligence community endorse “World Without Israel”

[Editor’s note: The source for the alleged US intelligence community report Preparing for a Post-Israel Middle East, Franklin Lamb, has not yet responded to requests to authenticate the report’s existence. Gordon Duff, Editor of Veterans Today, states that he has contacted sources in the intelligence agencies that supposedly wrote the report. These sources categorically deny its existence. Common sense supports Duff: What intelligence agency personnel could get away with telling this much truth in an official document?! So what we may have here is a two-part psy-op, designed as a fund-raiser for Israel, that backfired. The Israelis love to raise money for AIPAC, the ADL and their other front organizations, by panicking wealthy Jewish donors: “GIVE US MONEY NOW OR ISRAEL IS DOOMED!” But they’re reaching the point of diminishing returns, like the proverbial boy who cried “wolf!” In today’s world, when the Zionists try to squeeze money out of Jewish pockets by screaming “ISRAEL IS DOOMED” the only reaction they get is an overwhelming roar of approval of Israel’s impending demise from around the globe.]

Henry Kissinger and sixteen American intelligence agencies agree that in the near future, Israel will no longer exist.

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been vilified in the Western media for daring to imagine “a world without Israel.” But according to news reports, Henry Kissinger and sixteen American intelligence agencies agree that in the near future, Israel will no longer exist. The New York Post quotes Kissinger “word for word”: “In 10 years, there will be no more Israel”.

Kissinger’s statement is flat and unqualified. He is not saying that Israel is in danger, but could be saved if we just gave it additional trillions of dollars and smashed enough of its enemies with our military. He is not saying that if we elect Netanyahu’s old friend Mitt Romney, Israel could somehow be salvaged. He is not saying that if we bomb Iran, Israel might survive. He is not offering a way out. He is simply stating a fact: In 2022, Israel will no longer exist.

The US Intelligence Community agrees, though perhaps not on the precise 2022 expiration date. Sixteen US intelligence agencies with a combined budget over USD70 billion have issued an 82-page analysis titled “Preparing for a Post-Israel Middle East.” The US intelligence report observes that the 700,000 Israeli settlers illegally squatting on land stolen in 1967 – land that the entire world agrees belongs to Palestine, not Israel – are not going to pack up and leave peacefully. Since the world will never accept their ongoing presence on stolen land, Israel is like South Africa in the late 1980s.

The extremist Likud coalition governing Israel, according to the US intelligence report, is increasingly condoning and supporting rampant violence and lawlessness by illegal settlers. The report states that the brutality and criminality of the settlers, and the growing apartheid-style infrastructure including the apartheid wall and the ever-more-draconian system of checkpoints, are indefensible, unsustainable, and out of synch with American values.

The sixteen US intelligence agencies agree that Israel cannot withstand the coming pro-Palestinian juggernaut consisting of the Arab Spring, the Islamic Awakening, and the rise of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In the past, dictatorships in the region kept a lid on the pro-Palestinian aspirations of their people. But those dictatorships began to topple with the fall of the pro-Israel Shah of Iran in 1979 and the establishment of a democratic Islamic Republic, whose government had little choice but to reflect its people’s

  12. Funny – Romney goes to Europe, and he’s a gaffe machine, a buffoon, and embarrassment to the U.S. This dope, Kerry, goes overseas, and he’s brilliant. Got it!

  13. Add this to his comment the other day about how the Earth could have been called the Ocean. There is a whole lot of dumb ass in this administration.

  15. the guy’s a real peach.

in other news, Obama and the Palestinians held a press conference, and without a teleprompter, O got smoked…

    USA! USA!

  16. According to the Urban Dictionary, “Nice Tie!” is a general complimentary expression meaning:

“anything cool, hip, exotic, sexy, or fashionable. can be used for women or men, objects or locations.”

Meh! Sounds to me like — arising out of this diplomatic incident — the UD really needs a new definition . . . one that means pretty much the opposite of that, i.e.:

“Nice Tie.” A seemingly bland, but in reality highly charged statement made by a diplomat to a foreign leader or official, one that is intended to convey strong and unmistakable sarcasm to the person spoken to. It is delivered in the form of a friendly “compliment” but is clearly intended to be a very strong message of rebuke, one that both acknowledges and is made in response to an original insult or public attack.

The use of the phrase originated in March, 2013 when President Obama and his newly minted Sec’y of State, John Kerry were visiting Israel. That host country actually came under fire from a Palestinian rocket attack during the visit. There was no immediate danger to either man, but the insult was unmistakable.

Kerry was quoted sometime thereafter saying to the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, when they met for an official ceremony:

    “Nice Tie.”

The obvious meaning of Kerry’s statement was really “Nice Rockets!”, and was meant to acknowledge the abject stupidity of the Palestinians firing rockets into Israel during a Presidential visit, and thereby pointing out to Abbas that the rockets had failed to serve any purpose other than to reinforce the widely held notion by sensible people that the Palestinians remain utterly ill-equipped to qualify for actual statehood recognition by the United States, or anyone else with any sense.

    Oh, wait . . .

Seems the President himself “delivered” a counter-intuitive message during the visit by agreeing to speak on a dais where the flag of the United States had been deliberately placed beneath a very large photograph of noted past terrorist, Yasser Arafat.

    Never mind!

  17. Howdy! I know this is kinda off topic however , I’d figured I’d ask.
