Joe Biden, Gun Nut

Many of you know more about firearms than Joe Biden does. I’m wondering what you think of the suddenly gun-clinging vice president’s recommendations.

UPDATE: Well thanks everyone for your comments, keep ‘em coming. I was wondering how my readership would react to the Obama White House POINT MAN on guns suggesting we defend our homes with a weapon that fires two shots and NOT FIRE EITHER OF THEM AT THE INTRUDER.

Really, it makes me want to shoot myself. I think a double barrel shotgun will be sufficient.

1. If the government institutes a mental health requirement to own or purchase firearms, MrBiden would be required to give up his shotguns to the nearest police facility.
2. If, by some devious means, MrBiden does pass the mental health test, MrsBiden should hide all the shotgun shells in the house and carry a taser..
3. MrBiden has obviously never seen what a shotgun blast will do the human body.
4. When MrBiden’s securtity detail starts carrying around shotguns and fills their suit jacket pockets with shells, then he can give advice on the safety and efficiency of shotguns vs any other firearm.

A 12 gauge double barrel shotgun kicks like a mule, especially when you shoot both barrels at the same time !
Most women would not want to wield that kind of weapon.
They are heavy, and you only have two shells.
To reload, you have to break it and then re-arm.
Biden says to just shoot it into the air ?
Biden is an idiot
If he was ever confronted with a weapon, he would pee himself.

This idiot is scary. He tells Jill to just walk out on the balcony and fire a few shotgun blasts into the woods? What if there are kids out there playing in the woods like they are known to do? It’s frightening that people like this senile old goat could get access to guns anyway. As a woman, it was insulting for him to tell Kate she doesn’t “need” an AR15. He has no place telling anybody – male, female, or in between – what we need or don’t need to protect our families. Disgusting statist.

I think RT is related to Chris M. and gets “tingles” down the legs just by visiting WHD. We can’t talk about the effect posting has, need to keep it PG.

Feeding (responding) only keeps him/her at the buffet.

On a positive note, I’m in total agreement with your post. The scenario he describes is exactly opposite what our conceal carry instructor told us to do. If you shoot it in the air it has to come down somewhere. Fire it in the woods? Geez…..military, police, conceal carry instructors around the country are shaking their heads in disbelief.

Protect yourself at home with a shotgun? If that is your preference, fine. It’s not mine though.

Many states have laws that make firing into the air a crime:

In Arizona, firing a gun into the air was raised from a misdemeanor to a felony by Shannon’s law, in response to the death of a 14-year-old from a stray bullet in 1999

In California, discharging a firearm into the air is a felony punishable by three years in state prison. If the stray bullet kills someone, the shooter can be charged with murder

If Biden had taken a simple NRA safety course or had the least bit of common sense he would know not to go shooting off weapons into the air or into the woods blindly.

In regards to my wife having a shotgun vs. an AR 15, I would go with the AR 15. Its light, has an adjustable stock for people of different sizes and has very little recoil. A 12 gauge has an enormous kick and would probably knock my wife over or at least bruise her shoulder. An added benefit is that there is a much less mess to clean up after you’re done blowing away the intruder.

Obama wants to take away guns, but he knows he can’t. It’s all being disguised through a plan to limit rounds, while the US military, world govts and t’s build up weapons caches. Biden is just talking s

He said he told his wife that ?

That would chase the bad guys off !

His wife Jill is supposedly a highly educated woman.

I live in a highrise with a balcony. We’re not allowed to even hang towels or blankets. I’ll check with my HO manual, but I am pretty sure firing into the air is a no-no.

Joe Biden doesn’t know what he’s talking about. This is the problem with the gun control proposals coming from the left: they’re based on ignorance, or at least an avoidance of the facts. It’s just proof that the left isn’t interested in safety or solving problems, just attacking the Second Ammendment, the Constitution.

William February 20, 2013 at 6:00 pm

He’s absolutely right. That’s why, in case you missed it, the US military has been dumping the M-16 and M4 in favor of double barrel shotguns. Everyone knows that the M-16 (the military version of the AR-15) is much, much harder to aim and shoot which is why they’re switching.

Hey, that would be “FAIR”. Let the enemy get closer to you with his AK47 with a 30 round magazine before he was within your effective range. And perhaps our guys should use bean-bag rounds so as not to be so lethal!!! I hope no one in the administration reads your post William, they have enough ideas already.

William – I’d like to see the look on his face if his Secret Service detail started using double barrel shotguns.

Reply

Marcus February 20, 2013 at 6:18 pm

So Jill Biden follows her husband’s advice and goes out on the balcony and fires off the two rounds in her 12 gauge shotgun . The fenced in VP residence is always surrounded by Secret Service officers, so when they hear the gunfire from the VP residence they go into full alert. Guns are drawn, SS headquarters and the White House is alerted, lights go on, more police vans pull up, the SS storms the residence, television news reporters show up, on air reporters go into full panic mode. Meanwhile Joe is eating his pizza watching his favorite tv program, The Squidbillies. When the police break down the door to rescue the BIdens, all Joe can say is, “What’s up?” Jill adds, I just did what Joe told me to do.

I think Biden is trying to get his wife killed. Or arrested, if she survives his “advice”. She should hire a private investigator and a divorce lawyer ASAP.

There’s also the possibility that he’s a Republican mole out to get Dem constituents — who might be stupid or inexperienced enough to follow that advice — killed so they can’t vote anymore (except in Chicago). Not a strong possibility, since the favored Republican tactic is to shoot _themselves_ in the foot, and pretend they were attempting a show of bipartisan accord.

But we may have been underestimating Biden all these years, calling him an idiot. It had to take some effort to cram six deadly and illegal bits of advice into just 53 words.

I’m thinking of Uncle/VP Joe as Dirty Harry:

‘I know what you’re thinking. “Did he fire two shots or only one?” Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .12-gauge shotgun, the most powerful gauge in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?’

‘Wait, hell, I did fire of two shots!’

On a serious note. We really need a someone to ask the VP at his next press event how he feels about giving clearly illegal advice to a American citizen. Firing warning shots, especially into the air, is not just dangerous but a felony – in all 50 states. It is not protected by castle doctrine, or stand your ground in states that hold that standard. For the VP to give such advice is beyond reprehensible.

Biden has never taken a class in gun safety or physics. A couple of simple points to ponder.

First off, you never “shoot in the air.” This is a combination of gun safety rules and the laws of physic. If you fire a weapon, any weapon, the projectile will leave a a certain velocity, and unless it impacts some other object it will return to earth. The speed at which it returns is called terminal velocity, and while terminal velocity is less than the original velocity it is still significant. In the 1920′s (maybe Joe was there) the US Army Ordnance did some experiments regarding the topic. They determined that a round shot straight up would return to earth with a force of 300 f.p.s., not enough to kill normally, but enough to seriously wound.

A shotgun shell is composed of a plastic tube in which a number of small lead balls are contained called shot. The number of shot in a 12ga. double OO shell is 8. They are approx. the size of a .36 cal. bullet. Using the information in the preceeding paragraph, you then have 8, .36 cal bullets going up, and then coming down to earth, all at an approx. speed of approx. 204.54545mph.

In 2007 the Annals of Thoracic Surgery published a case report on this exact phenomena, under the tittle “Can a Falling Bullet Be Lethal at Terminal Velocity? Cardiac Injury Caused by a Celebratory Bullet” (http://ats.ctsnetjournals.org/cgi/content/full/83/1/283). Their conclusion, “Bullets fired into the air during celebrations return at a speed fast enough to penetrate the skin and cause internal damage to other organs…”

Even if the shotgun was fired at a 45deg. angle over someone’s head, the pellets would still travel at a trajectory that could prove to be dangerous, if not deadly.

We (people who have real experience with firearms) are taught to never fire a weapon in the air due to not knowing where the projectile will land. This is a simple case of responsibility and liability.

While I am not an attorney (thank G-d) I do know that there have been successful prosecutions of people who have injured others due to the irresponsible act of firing a weapon upwards. One would think that a lawyer such as Biden would understand the concept of secondary or vicarious liability. It is very loosely the same as dram shop laws, wherein a bar can be sued if they serve alcohol to an intoxicated person and that person then injures themselves or another.

By virtue of his position as VPOTUS, Biden is encouraging Americans to fire a weapon in the air, and to hell with the consequences of where the round lands. He is in effect giving the ill informed, uninformed, or just plain stupid a license to engage in dangerous and in many states illegal behavior. This would open him up to civil and perhaps criminal liability if someone would be hurt. It not only opens him up personally, but by virtue of his office, the US government to said liability, the concept of joint/several liability. I can’t wait to see the headlines somewhere down the road of the VPOTUS defense for accidentally injuring or killing someone by firing a weapon skyward.

There are very few women who can handle the recoil from a 12 gauge shotgun. Among them are Governor Palin who can not. Only hit the target but look hotter than he’ll when she’s doing it. I suspect that Gov Palin would respond to a dangerous intruder by putting a load of buckshot into their head and groin ratherbthan fire into the air where it would endanger innocent bystanders.
