Obama Appears on Meet the Press

by Keith Koffler on December 30, 2012, 10:22 am

I thought you might want to catch President Obama’s appearance on Meet the Press. He goes through all the issues – fiscal cliff, immigration, gun control, the economy, and so forth.

Mike Allen at Politico has the key takeaways on Politico Playbook in case you don’t want to watch the whole thing. Let us know what you think!

Visit for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Michael December 30, 2012 at 10:54 am

From reading the Politico script, America is very fortunate to have a president who is never wrong and never makes a mistake.

We have a Mayor like that in Chicago too!

srdem65 December 30, 2012 at 11:01 am

Thanks for the video link, but I can’t stand the sound of his voice anymore.

I did read the “takeaways”, though. My “takeaway”; strawmen, shared sacrifice, millionaires/billionaires, infrastructure, immigration reform, gay issues, seniors, blah, blah… all of the 2012 campaign speeches boiled down to 45 minutes.

It’s the same old, tired losing arguments that he’s talked about for the last four years. Our economy won’t improve if he has another faux stimulus that funnels money to construction unions to rebuild roads and bridges in the Dem controlled cities in the NE, immigration reform will never win approval until we close our borders and no one believes that he is serious about “shared sacrifice” as long as he and his family live like royalty at our expense.

DeniseVB December 30, 2012 at 11:20 am

I couldn’t even get through reading it as I started hearing Obama’s voice in my head :)

Gregory’s questions also seemed carefully prepared for him, and Obama seemed quick to respond with the proper talking points.

Jeff December 30, 2012 at 11:28 am

thank you, I agree whole heartedly the mental image is damaging enough

Julie Brueckheimer December 30, 2012 at 11:25 am

I refuse to watch him anymore.

SAllen December 30, 2012 at 11:31 am

So do I! I can’t even stand using the mute button; too easy to read his lips!

Langley Spook December 30, 2012 at 12:07 pm

The minute I see Obama on FNC I just ‘flip him the bird’… its like a Pavlov dog thing -lol

veritaseequitas December 30, 2012 at 12:19 pm

The sound of him and the sight of him, with his unctuous pronouncements and his outright lies, has gotten too depressing to bear.

Noma December 30, 2012 at 3:59 pm

I think I detect an odor coming from the TV when he appears, too.

Susan December 30, 2012 at 4:14 pm

FLDemFem December 30, 2012 at 7:49 pm

More likely Bull Sh*t. It has its own unique rendolence.

Star December 30, 2012 at 11:22 am

What? Even on this wretched show?

Star December 30, 2012 at 11:34 am

By the way–this would make Gregory..what…the press? This country has had it!

Jeff December 30, 2012 at 11:27 am

I scanned the script but cant handle that stuff because I mentally picture that moronic tool speaking in my head and it makes me throw up in my mouth a little..

SaveUsGod December 30, 2012 at 11:29 am

Didn’t listen, can’t listen. I CANNOT listen to the garbage that spews from this man anymore. I can’t believe I have to have the mute button at the ready for four more years.

Stevie December 30, 2012 at 3:09 pm

Four more agonizing years. And if the progressives have their way, he’ll be dictator for life. Save us, God, is right.

csinnm December 30, 2012 at 11:55 am

“But generally if you look at how I’ve tried to govern over the last four years and how I’ll continue to try to govern, I’m not driven by some ideological agenda. I am a pretty practical guy. And I just want to make sure that things work. And one of the nice things about never having another election again, I will never campaign again, is I think you can rest assured that all I care about is making sure that I leave behind an America that is stronger, more prosperous, more stable, more secure than it was when I came into office” and the fact that he believes that is what scares me…

Ticked Off 2 December 30, 2012 at 12:12 pm

What a lying poe he is. Like many others here, I WILL NOT look at him or listen to him. On rare occasion I will read what he has to say and then I go hurl.

veritaseequitas December 30, 2012 at 12:20 pm

Ticked Off – Is that “poe” or “ho”?

csinnm December 30, 2012 at 12:26 pm

I would go with the “e” being a polite substitute for “s”?

Star December 30, 2012 at 12:38 pm

Now look what you have done! Made me read ridiculous lies–I mean, more ridiculous lies. This is not good for me. No he is not driven by some ideological agenda–not driven, whipped by, formed, wedded to, etc–but not driven.

Julie Brueckheimer December 30, 2012 at 2:00 pm

Cross between ho and pos?

Susan December 30, 2012 at 11:57 am

You are spot on, srdem. I can not tolerate to listen to this man’s voice any longer. If he’s on the TV or radio it gets shut it off until I’m sure the coast is clear. He loves to torment the 57 million of us who voted against him. I also read the transcripts, rather than listen to the demagogue. As far as putting his “full weight” behind gun control, good luck with that skinny little Marxist. “Come and take it!”

Ticked Off 2 December 30, 2012 at 12:15 pm

Nearly 61 million voted against him. I wonder how many it would have been without the massive vote flipping/fraud.
Molon Labe!

gracepmc December 30, 2012 at 12:14 pm

My mute and channel change buttons on the remote are worn out in efforts to escape this man. That said, I might tune in if he and the ailing MIA SOS Clinton take the national podium to respond forcefully to AlQuaeda in Yemen for putting a bounty on our Ambassador and soldiers. But since Obama has acknowledged the “sloppiness” of Benghazi it is more likely, if anything at all, we will get some mewing from VIctoria Nuland.

Meanwhile troops have been sent to the CAR, where yet another American Embassy is in jeopardy to assist in the evacuation of Americans if necessary. Congress has been advised.

And when America is frozen by debt and filled with a populace with their hands out and their mouths open, it will be clear to all that we are another failed country. I am pretty sure the 4th estate will follow our progress carefully.

Girly1 December 30, 2012 at 12:16 pm

Can’t watch or listen to him either. Drudge has a headline – Obama going after Guns, as if this is a surpise. He said he was ‘going to put all his weight behind it” – in which case we have nothing to worry about.

Girly1 December 30, 2012 at 12:37 pm

Incidentally, has any member of the fourth estate ever asked Obama to explain his campaign promise of a ‘civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded as the military’? Is he planning to form a secret militia to confiscate our guns after he trashes the Fourth Amendment? He’s not wasting anytime trashing the Second Amendment now that he is Preezy for what could be a lifetime – sounds like he has an agenda.

Susan December 30, 2012 at 12:53 pm

I believe union thugs are Obama’s brown shirts. Last Friday Mark Belling sat in for Rush. His interview with Mallory Factor, author of “Shadowbosses”, was a real eye opener about the massive political power of unions.

Girly1 December 30, 2012 at 1:16 pm

Of course! It has to be union thugs. IIRC, Trumpka was the first visitor to the WH after the community organizer mysteriously won every swing state. 3000 paid volunteers plus an army of 300,000 unpaid recruits adds up to a very strong civilian militia.

Anne Lieberman December 31, 2012 at 7:42 am

The Husband heard that interview also and said it was deeply disturbing. He’s talked about little else ever since…

Shofar December 30, 2012 at 12:59 pm

I watched most of the broadcast, and wasn’t surprised at Obama attempting to lay the blame at the feet of the Republicans for the “fiscal cliff” debacle. He seemed to want to emphasize that fact repeatedly.

The other non-surprise were his statements on guns and gun control. He is a broken record with no record, and can only spit out what he has been told to say. For him to think on his feet and answer unknown, surprise questions leaves him sputtering and angry, as evidenced in so many of his photo-op pressers and Q & As.

Since I did not see all of the interview, does anyone know if Gregory asked for a Presidential pardon for violating DC law regarding the high capacity ammunition magazine he held up during last weeks show?

Margaret December 30, 2012 at 1:28 pm

That sound you just heard was my head exploding. If anyone needs me, I’ll be under my bed in a fetal position. Come get me when it’s over.

Langley Spook December 30, 2012 at 4:04 pm

2016? (if there’s anything left…)

DeniseVB December 30, 2012 at 1:33 pm

LOL….Obama picks his favorite photos of the year !

Just one token hug and a one token photo-op with Michelle (but not the one that was the top tweeted photo of the year hug), the rest are him with adoring crowds. Not one with the military or his children.

Now wouldn’t you think he’d choose the photos that inspired him more than showcased him ? If I had to choose my 12 favorite photos, believe me, I wouldn’t be in any of them :D

Swedishlady December 30, 2012 at 1:33 pm

I think the Republicans should repeat and repeat this Clintonesque mantra : “It´s the outrageous spending and borrowing, stupid”.

Guillermo Grande December 31, 2012 at 9:02 am

Spot on.

Teresa December 30, 2012 at 1:46 pm

I don’t even have to watch it — the president uses some version of the same platitudes in every speech and interview. The Republicans need to start RIDICULING these platitudes –”Poor Mr. President, he has do deal with an opposing party that wants to gut the middle class, wreck the economy and destroy America! Whatever is he to do?”

Swedishlady December 30, 2012 at 2:12 pm

Agree Teresa, they should ridicule him. There is much material for that. And Alas ! Were is that great Republican Communicator ? They really have a great message but can´t communicate it. And were are those tough Republican guys ? Or ladies. An American Margaret Thatcher, that would be something !

Swedishlady December 30, 2012 at 2:20 pm

By the way, talking about ridiculous Obama, where is Granny Jan ? I haven´t seen her here since that fatal November day. I hope she is gearing up for new witty , humorous attacks.

Quintus Arrius December 30, 2012 at 2:03 pm

I see the bromance of David for Barry continue…just like old times when David was in a chair in the WH press briefing room. I missed the question “How magical an experience has it been for you and Michelle and the kids to be living in the White House?”

Susan December 30, 2012 at 2:19 pm

Gregory got real close to a slobbering french kiss when he asked Preezy Revenge why those meanies – the Republicans – don’t just acquiesce to his every dictate…

“What is it about you, Mr. President, that you think is so hard to say yes to?”

Swedishlady December 30, 2012 at 2:39 pm

Disgusting. Oh, dear.
What about the Coronation ? I have read that there is some trouble getting people to show up. Will he not have this great photogenique adoring crowd ?

Star December 30, 2012 at 2:51 pm

The lack of logic, the snideness, the poor reasoning, the creepy agenda leading to ruin…oh, you didn’t ask me…sorry.

Swedishlady December 30, 2012 at 2:58 pm

Yes,yes Star, creepy agenda and everything else., Right !

Julie Brueckheimer December 30, 2012 at 2:13 pm

There is supposed to be a ‘major setback’ in the Cliff negotiations. I hope this is just not another kabuki dance step.

Stevie December 30, 2012 at 2:27 pm

I have only two words for Dictator Obama…….

Langley Spook December 30, 2012 at 4:09 pm

“Foxtrot Oscar”…? -lol

Lizzy December 30, 2012 at 2:56 pm

I refuse to listen to this vile little man. If his lips are moving he’s lying.! Wish
he’d go back to Hawaii and paint Michelles toenails as that’s about all he’s
qualified for…idiot.

ArnoldLayne December 30, 2012 at 2:58 pm

I watched and listened to whole interview.
Obama is very good on camera.
Two years ago when Obama folded on this same tax issue, he had to assure democrats that next time he would not. He won’t.
It’s his turn. It’s all deal-making.
GOP needs to get on board.

Girly1 December 30, 2012 at 5:35 pm

Obama is now enjoying the fruits of his labor. The ‘labor’ being the most unprecedented, vile, scurrilous, non-stop pummeling of a Republican Congress and Presidential nominee in history. This was exceeded by two years of deconstructing and destroying his predecessor, George W. Bush.

Obama is not a ‘deal maker’ – he is an anhililator. The Republicans and the Tea Party are all casualties of a political hit-man – Saul Alinsky’s star pupil. Lindsay Graham summed it up today on the Chris Wallace show – “HE WON”!

And to prove what a great leader he is, this gutter-sniper has declared that he plans to blame the Republicans in his Inaugural address and the State of the Union address for the fiscal cliff debacle – a new ‘low’ even for Chicago-style politics.

Star December 30, 2012 at 5:53 pm

He better watch out–we need a two-party system and if he succeeds in misrepesenting and lying the Repubs into the ground, there won’t be anyone to blame…then what will he do? Lol. It really galls me that so many people I know don’t spend a lick of time on this, don’t even get a paper, but they sure “know” the Republicans are responsible for all this and Obama is just some saintly angel trying to help this poor benighted country. Good grief–some of these people are college graduates. They just say, Oh, it will be OK, you worry too much. I said to one person–you know, you may not get your tax refund on time or your paycheck will be cut and this is because the president is is willing to chuck you overboard to make them look bad. The person said, “Well, I will get the refund, right–just later?”

Star December 30, 2012 at 5:57 pm

I think he’s dreadful on camera, Arnold–we differ. the corny canned 2000-word answers, the same old over and over. The scary flashbulb grin on and off. The skinny fingers waving.

imtorqued December 31, 2012 at 1:59 pm

I refuse to listen to a word the insane, evil, criminal, mass murdering, regressive, koranimal commiecrat says. Every word is a lie. Don’t listen to the SOB, just watch what he does.

65andcounting December 30, 2012 at 5:51 pm

I didn’t see MTP but can anyone tell me: was it here that our Narcissist in Chief said that the Sandy Hook killings was the worst day in HIS presidency?

Paaaaaarrrrrdon me, but did HE lose a child? Did HE suffer the trauma the other families in Newtown did? Noooooooooooo, yet it’s HIS worst day? OMG!

How is it possible that Obama can make any story all about him? It’s utterly sickening.

Julie Brueckheimer December 30, 2012 at 6:02 pm

And you reminded me of Moochelle. She didn’t accompany him to Newtown, but a few days later she sent them a message saying that her heart was broken. She’s the same as he. It’s the parents of the children whose hearts are broken, but she made it about herself. And they’re phonies. There’s not a bit of truth in what they say. Probably ‘don’t let a crisis go to waste’ is what fuels their comments.

MichelleIndependent December 30, 2012 at 5:55 pm

he is useless

jaytrain December 30, 2012 at 6:11 pm

These comments have been ‘moderated’ ? If this is the mental/verbal acuity of the opposition ,the next four years of Obama may be followed by eight more years of Obama, Michelle Obama .

DeniseVB December 30, 2012 at 7:06 pm

Not unless he can use his Executive Powers to eliminate that pesky term limit amendment ? Right?

Susan December 30, 2012 at 7:24 pm

You regressive commiecrats make me sick. Just get the hell out if we don’t meet your commie standards.

ArnoldLayne December 30, 2012 at 7:41 pm

“CPI has to be off the table because it’s not a winning argument to say benefits for seniors versus tax breaks for rich people,” said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). “We need to take CPI off the table — that’s not part of the negotiations — because we can’t win an argument that has Social Security for seniors versus taxes for the rich.”

Nice of the Republican leadership to realize this so late in the game.

Susan December 30, 2012 at 8:18 pm

Oh, what a cliffhanger! It’s really nothing but kabuki theater. They’re all doing the fan dance to make us think they are working hard. Behind those closed door of the formerly smoke-filled cloak rooms, they’re chilling the champagne in preparation for the grand bargain. I’ve seen this movie many times over my lifetime, and it never ends well for the American people.

srdem65 December 30, 2012 at 10:43 pm

I agree.
Now MrsClinton is in the hospital with a reported blood clot somewhere and my first thought was “sure, like we’re going to believe that”. So many lies and evasions from this administration have caused me to forget that she is 65 years old and she truely might not be well.
It’s come to this now, that a lot of us don’t believe anything anymore and assume they’re lying. When the people don’t believe what they’re told, or trust their elected officials, things are really at a low point in our country.

Just2old December 31, 2012 at 10:26 am

When the people fear the government you have tyranny; when the government fears the people; you have liberty.

I am older than Hillary–and believe me, weird, scary ailments can come out of nowhere…so, I am waiting and seeing. I sort of doubt she was attacked in Iran… I also wrote a concussion manual–and they do tell you to lay low–kids should not even text or do homework or go to school.

imtorqued December 31, 2012 at 2:06 pm

I hope she does have a clot. I hope it kills her. She is the enemy. I don’t wish my enemies well. Just picture the look of joy on her ugly mug as she turns our guns over to the un. She is a traitor. Why don’t traitors get arrested and hung anymore?

Jeff1000 December 31, 2012 at 7:04 am

I don’t know where to begin, everything Obama said was either a lie, a distortion, or a delusion. I have better things to do with my time so let the paid fact-checkers unravel this farce of an interview. I’m done with Barack Obama; he’s not worthy of one second of my attention.

Anne Lieberman December 31, 2012 at 7:56 am

I would rather eat my hand than hear what he has to say.

Danceswithtruth December 31, 2012 at 8:57 am

Any CEO of any company in the world would be fired if they handled their business the way Obama has. It’s not like the “fiscal cliff” snuck up on them. They have know all along the tax cuts were to expire at the end of 2012. As the “CEO” of this country it is his responsibility to effectively and efficiently run the business (country). If this were a CEO in a company who waited until the last possible moment to attempt a deal to avert a major issue, they would be fired. Where was he early in the year? (That is a rhetorical question) What steps did he suggest to mitigate or alleviate this problem?

Anyone with any common sense would immediately recognize the incompetence of a company’s CEO who failed to address significant issues in their business. In this scenario they give this man a pass and allow him to blame everyone else. Last time I checked he is the head of the corporation (our country) and has ultimate responsibility. A good leader would be holding round-the-clock meetings/negotiations in order to come to an agreeable solution (and a lot sooner than at the last possible minute).

Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well.
DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, attributed, Stars: A Study in Military Character and Leadership

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.
DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, speech, Mar. 6, 19

Two very good quotes that fit perfectly today.

Just2old December 31, 2012 at 10:11 am

Star December 31, 2012 at 11:04 am

I think they think they can spin any cliff outcome because the distracted, misinformed or indifferent American people like them better than the other side.
