President Obama and his family are departing tonight for their annual vacation in Hawaii.
But this year’s sojourn on Oahu is likely to be a brief one for the president. According to the Washington Post, Obama is scheduled to return to Washington Wednesday, the day after Christmas, to resume discussions about the fiscal cliff.
He said as much during an appearance in the briefing room Friday evening. “Merry Christmas. Because we didn’t get this done, I’ll see you next week,” Obama said.
It would appear likely that Michelle Obama and the children will stay in Hawaii even if Obama returns next week. Michelle has vacationed in Hawaii separately from the president in the past when he has been forced to be in Washington on business.
The first family is scheduled to arrive in Honolulu at 12:45 am local time.

Who cares if his vacation is short? How many full days has he actually worked since his original election? How many at least eight hour days? His relaxation time is costing the American taxpayers at least $4 million dollars. He could have paid on the deficit with that and they could have enjoyed their Christmas vacation the White House that taxpayers also support. His security teams might then have been able to go home for a little bit on Christmas.

Just so y’all know, having lived in Hawaii from ’70 thru ’09…..and having raised 5 kids there , I can say its a “nice” place to visit if you have tons of money to spare, however, its small ( Oahu – 45 miles around and over a million people on that island alone ) dirty,- literally, nasty of attitude if you are white, expensive, overrated and a scammers paradise.For a week or ten days, its great….kinda. The weed is great and so are the major hotels. No wonder O loves going ” home “.

In the news the Obama Administration said there would be only 2(two) inaugural balls on Inauguration day 2013. There were 10 (ten) in 2009 after a historic election during the worst recession since the Great Depression. Ha. Reason for limited celebrations? The poor economy of the country.
So I conclude we must be in the worst economy since the previous worst recession since the Great Depression.
George W took 77 trips on Air Force 1 to his Crawford Tx ranch in his 8 years in office. Obama took Air Force 1 to his Chicago home 7 times from 2008 to 2011.
George W took 180 days of vacation after 31 months in office while Obama took only 61 days after 31 months. Reagan took 112 vacation days at the same point in his presidency.

Crawford & the Reagan Ranch had security and communications systems in-place for the durations of the particular presidencies – and when the President was ‘home’ there wasn’t much he couldn’t do there that he could do in Washington. However when obie and his [bunch] go somewhere there are advance teams that go out to reconnoiter and secure the areas and equipment must be brought in and maintained for the duration of the particular trip, and then everything hauled out again. I don’t know about you but I can imagine that keeping a system in-place for eight years has GOT to be cheaper than hauling it around multiple times annually. Plus, Mr. Reagan and Mr. Bush entertained dignitaries and events ‘at home’ during some of those working vacations.

Crawford, TX was rather spartan. I think Bush’s vacations cost a fraction of Obama’s and Moochelle’s. And previous presidents have used Camp David much more.
I would think that cost analyses have been done of presidential spending over the years and that IF it had turned out that Mr. Reagan or either Mr. Bush’s expenses had exceeded expenses by socialist presidents then the IdiotMedia would have trumpeted it to high heaven.

They really are a selfish lot. I would assume some of the help would like to spend Christmas with their families. That’s why the Bushes went to Camp David. The Royals have to take 20 viehicles to Hawaii. But then they are “entitled”;). But since they have no home of their own, it would devastating to spend Christmas in the WH and save the taxpayers $4 million;)

When it came out of their own pockets, they stayed home and had much less exotic vacations. No, I wouldn’t worry about ruining Obama’s Christmas. Not only is Christmas not really his “thing”, but Boehner will have plenty of presents for him when he gets back, whatever his beliefs.
For Obama, there’s ALWAYS plenty of “ME!” under the tree, wherever he may be. As long as he can force others to bow to his glorious self, what need of Christ has he?
