Obama Departing for Brief Hawaii Vacation

by Keith Koffler on December 21, 2012, 6:54 pm

President Obama and his family are departing tonight for their annual vacation in Hawaii.

But this year’s sojourn on Oahu is likely to be a brief one for the president. According to the Washington Post, Obama is scheduled to return to Washington Wednesday, the day after Christmas, to resume discussions about the fiscal cliff.

He said as much during an appearance in the briefing room Friday evening. “Merry Christmas. Because we didn’t get this done, I’ll see you next week,” Obama said.

It would appear likely that Michelle Obama and the children will stay in Hawaii even if Obama returns next week. Michelle has vacationed in Hawaii separately from the president in the past when he has been forced to be in Washington on business.

The first family is scheduled to arrive in Honolulu at 12:45 am local time.

How nice for them. The rest of us will tough it out.

Who cares if his vacation is short? How many full days has he actually worked since his original election? How many at least eight hour days? His relaxation time is costing the American taxpayers at least $4 million dollars. He could have paid on the deficit with that and they could have enjoyed their Christmas vacation the White House that taxpayers also support. His security teams might then have been able to go home for a little bit on Christmas.

Church shooting in Pennsylvania. 4 dead including gunman.
Surely the President won’t miss another photo op to show his concern for the families of the victims.
I notice he didn’t mention the loss of lives in Chicago in his presser announcing Joe BiteMe as the violence guru.

Janna December 21, 2012 at 9:11 pm

..they were neither black nor children….oh hell no he wont be there.

I have never been to Hawaii. Oh, well.

MarjoJimbo December 21, 2012 at 8:18 pm

I will never be able to afford Hawaii!

Janna December 21, 2012 at 9:19 pm

Just so y’all know, having lived in Hawaii from ’70 thru ’09…..and having raised 5 kids there , I can say its a “nice” place to visit if you have tons of money to spare, however, its small ( Oahu – 45 miles around and over a million people on that island alone ) dirty,- literally, nasty of attitude if you are white, expensive, overrated and a scammers paradise. For a week or ten days, its great….kinda. The weed is great and so are the major hotels. No wonder O loves going ” home “.
Wait…Chicago ? Indonesia ?
Never mind…..

Not Nabob December 21, 2012 at 9:34 pm

Janna says : “The weed is great” Not Nabob says : Where can I get some in Texas?

Darrel December 21, 2012 at 10:05 pm

Or . . . maybe he will come back next Wednesday and fly out again.

Lizzy December 21, 2012 at 7:58 pm

Wonder how many children and families will not have a Christmas due to
Sandy or plain old economics? It’s sad that the Obama’s feel the need to
act so selfishly. We’ve had a bad year and it would be nice not to have your
first family acting like royalty great example for the girls.

Not Nabob December 21, 2012 at 9:51 pm

In the news the Obama Administration said there would be only 2(two) inaugural balls on Inauguration day 2013. There were 10 (ten) in 2009 after a historic election during the worst recession since the Great Depression. Ha. Reason for limited celebrations? The poor economy of the country.
So I conclude we must be in the worst economy since the previous worst recession since the Great Depression.

Bobbynorwich December 21, 2012 at 9:02 pm

George W took 77 trips on Air Force 1 to his Crawford Tx ranch in his 8 years in office. Obama took Air Force 1 to his Chicago home 7 times from 2008 to 2011.

George W took 180 days of vacation after 31 months in office while Obama took only 61 days after 31 months. Reagan took 112 vacation days at the same point in his presidency.

Sol December 21, 2012 at 11:38 pm

Crawford & the Reagan Ranch had security and communications systems in-place for the durations of the particular presidencies – and when the President was ‘home’ there wasn’t much he couldn’t do there that he could do in Washington. However when obie and his [bunch] go somewhere there are advance teams that go out to reconnoiter and secure the areas and equipment must be brought in and maintained for the duration of the particular trip, and then everything hauled out again. I don’t know about you but I can imagine that keeping a system in-place for eight years has GOT to be cheaper than hauling it around multiple times annually. Plus, Mr. Reagan and Mr. Bush entertained dignitaries and events ‘at home’ during some of those working vacations.

Check http://factreal.wordpress.com/2012/10/17/list-michelle-obamas-vacations-video/ for a list of where, when, and with what obie and [that wife] of his and [that kid] of his(?) used and abused AirForce One jointly and independently.

Car in December 21, 2012 at 11:40 pm

Ba haa haaa haaa … nice try Bobby. You’ve compares 8 years to three, first of all. Second, the distance alone. Third, the Obamas obviously don’t really consider Chicago “home” since every vacation they take is to somewhere else – ski resorts, Africa, Italy, Martha’s Vinyard, or Hawaii.

Bush just went to Crawford.

Noma December 22, 2012 at 12:19 am

Shut up

Noma December 22, 2012 at 12:20 am

Let me be perfectly clear….
Shut up, Bobby

Julie Brueckheimer December 22, 2012 at 9:41 am

Crawford, TX was rather spartan. I think Bush’s vacations cost a fraction of Obama’s and Moochelle’s. And previous presidents have used Camp David much more.

Sol December 22, 2012 at 5:18 pm

I would think that cost analyses have been done of presidential spending over the years and that IF it had turned out that Mr. Reagan or either Mr. Bush’s expenses had exceeded expenses by socialist presidents then the IdiotMedia would have trumpeted it to high heaven.

Has anyone seen summaries of executive vacation spending anywhere on the internet?

Girly1 December 21, 2012 at 9:46 pm

Heard that Obama is planning to keep us abreast of his daily activities while vacationing. Check in on the WH website for his daily postings. He’s playing with us now – jerk!

Maybe he will see fit to post his activities on that Sunday afternoon while the Benghazi attack was being aired live directly into the Situation Room!

Car in December 22, 2012 at 8:35 am

I think I’ll keep you guys appraised of my daily activities during Obama’s vacation.

Today, both my husband and I will be working.

Star December 22, 2012 at 11:06 am

The guy who was fixing the plumbing had the day wrong–so now I am sitting here with no plans except to snark.

Darrel December 21, 2012 at 10:04 pm

The Beard, aka Mooch, will stay and get her four million dollars worth of vacation.

Nolikeo December 21, 2012 at 10:35 pm

They really are a selfish lot. I would assume some of the help would like to spend Christmas with their families. That’s why the Bushes went to Camp David. The Royals have to take 20 viehicles to Hawaii. But then they are “entitled”;). But since they have no home of their own, it would devastating to spend Christmas in the WH and save the taxpayers $4 million;)

Island Girl December 22, 2012 at 1:34 am

Well well well yippee! I live one island over from where they “vacation” but in the real island life, good for you Santa Clause Obama, pulled it off again.
So sorry the weather suxxx ha not:)

Jeff1000 December 22, 2012 at 5:40 am

You people don’t get it. Socialism is for you, not for Obama, Congress, Hollywood, and the crony capitalists. Eat your peas and shutup.

Lizzy December 22, 2012 at 5:43 am

I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back and then left after the fiscal cliff is
fixed. Wonder what it cost the taxpayer to keep Michelle and the girls from
leaving without him using two planes again

Girly1 December 22, 2012 at 8:23 am

Did anyone catch the parting shot of the two Olympic athletes as they jogged together – side by side – up the stairs of their magic carpet on their way to their island paradise? I think it’s about time for them to buy their own little grass shack instead of bilking taxpayers. What a shameless pair of moochers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AZ Granny December 22, 2012 at 9:15 am

They’re entitled ya know… They act like lowlife that hit the big jackpot. Hawaii wasn’t their Christmas tradition until the taxpayers started funding their trips. When it came out of their own pockets, they stayed home and had much less exotic vacations. They’re showing the ultimate in selfishness by taking their employees far away from their own families at Christmas. Can’t believe America voted for another 4 years of this.

Lizzy December 22, 2012 at 10:12 am

I watched Roseanne (limited hospital TV) and they had won the
lottery and as crass as they were the Obama’s have got them beat.
Just as crass and classless in fact I think the Connor’s are a bit better.

Girly1 December 22, 2012 at 10:13 am

When they lived in Chicago, they stayed with ValJar in her home on Oahu. They probably didn’t even pay for the groceries.

cincycinco December 22, 2012 at 12:56 pm

“When it came out of their own pockets, they stayed home and had much less exotic vacations.” – AZ Granny

HAHAHA! Good one, AZ Granny!

Like anything EVER came out of their OWN pockets!!! Barackster’s been curried and combed and taken care of since he shipped in from Indones – uh, decended to us unworthy peasants from the Heavens. He’s ALWAYS had a sugar daddy ladling the People’s cash on him one way or another! The man’s not done an honest day’s work EVER, including writing “his” book!

As for Michelle Antonette, well, she’s been on the gravy train for awhile too. She’s been farting through genuine silk pretty much since she hooked up with Bammy, up to and including having high-dollar jobs at a taxpayer funded hospital created juuust for HER (which I’m SURE had NOTHING to do with tax-and-diversity addicted administrators bootlicking her prestigious hubby). She’s pushed her good-time-and-shoe-shopping spending into the stratosphere since she’s had unfettered access to the Treasury, I’ll grant you that, but I don’t think her own money was EVER at stake, That’s just not the Democrat way!

cincycinco December 22, 2012 at 8:54 am

“Michelle has vacationed in Hawaii separately from the president in the past,,,” – Keith Koffler

Seeing as how they don’t like each other, I don’t see how that would ever be a problem. He doesn’t even seem to like girls generally, so that may give him some shower time with a freind back home. He prefers Rahm, but he’s pretty, ahem, “flexible”..

“when he has been forced to be in Washington on business.” – Also Mr. Koffler

Yeah. Someone can “force” Obama to do something. If he goes to Washington, it’s just for the pleasure of humiliating Boehner a little more. The Arrogant One is not driven by the needs of others.

“Merry Christmas.” – Barak the Heretic

Yep, he sure keeps Christmas in his heart, doesn’t he? No church, no gift exchange with the fam, nothing. Just crazy Michelle Antonette spending the people’s money on 52 “Christmas” trees that they’re never there to see anyway, and a 300 pound Gingerbread White House with acurate decorations in each room and electrical wiring.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/30/white-house-gingerbread_n_2219799.html

http://catholicexchange.com/obamas-want-to-neuter-christmas/

He DOES seem to enjoy those private Ramadan dinners, though. Everything else is just show.

Remember his Hanukkah celebration? He starts out by conflating it with his “triumph” of “Hurricane” Sandy management (side note: notice how, when it’s about Obama it’s a “Hurricane”, but when it’s about who pays the bills, Democrats insist NOAA call it a “Superstorm” just to scr@w the insurance companies [which raises everyone else's premiums] ?http://thehill.com/blogs/e2-wire/e2-wire/267261-schumer-presses-weather-agency-to-keep-sandy-a-storm), followed by a complete lie about America’s “Unshakable” support for Israel (Ask BiBi if HE feels the love on that!).

Given Obama’s treatment of Israel, both in how he’s handled Prime Minister. Netanyahu and in the treatment of Israel on the world stage, I would expect Obama to be as welcome as a ham and cheese sandwich at a Hanukkah celebration.

I particuraly like this one;

“‘To this day Jews around the world honor the Maccabees everlasting hope that light will overcome the darkness, that goodness will overcome evil and that faith can accomplish miracles,’ the president said.” – Obama

I am not a Jewish historian, but I have some familiarity with the text. Enough, anyway, to know that Judah Macabee always glorified God – not himself – after every victory. Mr. Obama, can you say the same?

And you’d better hope goodness DOESN’T overcome evil, if you want your agenda to suceed, Just another proof of your cynicism, I suppose…

By the way, that’s the first day of Kwanzaa.

http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/us/kwanzaa

Does Obama think no one celebrates Kwanzaa in either house of Congress? Is there no limit to this man’s religious bigotry?

No, I wouldn’t worry about ruining Obama’s Christmas. Not only is Christmas not really his “thing”, but Boehner will have plenty of presents for him when he gets back, whatever his beliefs.

For Obama, there’s ALWAYS plenty of “ME!” under the tree, wherever he may be. As long as he can force others to bow to his glorious self, what need of Christ has he?
